Sounds like morale for McLaren's at an all time low. I wonder if they're going to put whatever budget for this season they've got left to work, or if they're just going to call this a practice season and do what they can. Can't imagine either driver would be happy with either of those, though.

I like McLaren but spending a season pulling a Haas and working on next year might break them.

At least we're going to see the two former giants of the sport Williams and McLaren battling it out...for P16

Maybe, but it feels like make or break for them here. Even when Ferrari went downhill a couple of years ago, they at least reliably filled out the midfield.

This is just a bit sad. It's happened before, and it's clearly not exclusively happening to McLaren. But still, sad.

Sounds like McLaren have made some fundamental mistake in their design.

Which sucks, I like both their drivers and it would be good to see Mclaren up the sharp end with Ferrari to give us all 90/00s flashbacks.
IIRC, McLaren had porpoising-issues and resolved them quickly... and now I wonder if their porpoising was quickly dealt with cause ther overall downforce was just that terrible. Without propper downforce, you can only go slowly through corners, you need to brake earlier and accelerate later. It's a shit situation and I hope they'll deal with it. Both their drivers are absolutely amazing and it breaks my heart to see them struggle this much. Ricciardo is the kind of driver that should have won a title and Norris is the kind of driver that should win a title.

They had the somewhat hidden benefit that they primarily suffered cause their illegal fuel-pump got exposed. It's one thing to have an illegal component be strapped from your car and it suddenly being a midfield obstacle, it's an entirely different matter when you just end up making a painfully slow car.

Everyone ready for the return of vegas?

They seriously need to stick to getting deals sorted with some of the amazing tracks we've lost through the years, not coming up with these ginmic tracks.

30 races and there will be no hockenheim, malaysia, valencia...

Also, I'm pretty sure 23 or 24 races in a season also happens to be the limit imposed by the FIA, i'm cringing at imagining how they would justify raising that limit. Last year we had the most races ever in a season and (even though i can only speak for myself) i definitely did get fatigued by the time we reached the end (that god it was an exciting wdc battle the whole way through). 18-20 is probably the sweet spot for mechanics and fans to keep the interest up and not oversaturate our motorsports craze.

There are rumors going around that spa could be dropped. i think the CEO of liberty media said something.
Let me guess they drop Spa but "at least you get generic Tilke ring in random American city" because gotta hijack the entire sport and turn it into "America with a few fly away races to places the government's bribe encourage FOM to go there".

2 American races fine; 3, 4, 5,... and it's getting utterly ridiculous.

Same. Fortnightly races with the occasional double header feels a good pace. Double headers with the occasional triple is getting to the point I can't watch every race live.

In the same interview they talked about new teams too.

Hopefully it won't mean a return to the ridiculousness of prequalifying or teams that are running absolute dogs shit cars 5+ seconds a lap off the pace followed by breaking down midway every race.

I don't see how Q1 could function with that many teams, pit stops would become a nightmare for unsafe releases especially during a safety car and there aren't that many garages in the pits at many modern tracks.

I wonder if liberty media is going to do what bernie did back in the day and only give prize money to the top 10 constructors, 11th place and back get nothing?

But don’t you like ridiculous teams like Life and Andrea Moda?

24 should be the absolute max and if reason needs to be cited, it would be logistics of it would be absolutely exhausting and would be incredibly expensive, especially with the fuel prices increasing and the jet lag involved is hell for everyone. It also would devalue the importance of the remaining races, especially if the championship ends up being decided before the final race. 24 also is a nice number to land on because there's only 52 weeks in a year and even F1 drivers need vacations.

And agreed on 20 races being a sweet-spot.

I won't get my hopes up too much, but how good would it be to see F1 at Kyalami again?

Agreed. Even 22-23 is pushing it. 30 is absolutely ridiculous, especially considering most of these new races will probably be in the USA. F1 isn't IndyCar or NASCAR, and many of F1's new American converts will probably stop following F1 once Hambone leaves the sport.

Kyalami would be great but I will believe it when I see it. It's going to be Middle Eastern hell holes (can't judge them by western standards, that's just wrong) and 'murica numbah 1 races from here on out (or combine both and go full Jerusalem street race).

Africa will gett a lot of lip service about how they totally want to go there when asked but somehow it just never seems to happen.

Cause nothing says "glory and splendor appropriate to F1" like driving around the parking lot of a Casino.

I mean, I'd be totally in favor of a racetrack in Africa, but if it's a modern Tilke track, miss me with that gay shit.

But don’t you like ridiculous teams like Life and Andrea Moda?
How about SpaceKatGal Racing?

All joking aside, I'd love to see a goofball team like that in F1 for a change. F1 is getting a bit too big for its boots, they need some chickenshit joke of a team to take them down a peg.

This is correct but remember that because there is the break between when the f1 season ends and starts up next year, and there's summer break also, that takes a lot of weeks away from that 52 so the ratio of race weekends in a 24 race calendar would raise above 50%

I've always supported the idea of Kyalami coming back to the calendar, though recently discovering that some of Hambone's most irritating race-baiting fanboys are from ZA has given me pause. Maybe wait until after he retires just to rub it in.

I can't see America ever truly caring about F1 unless there's an American champion, which isn't happening any time soon. One race there is enough. As others have pointed out what fanbase there is is either because Black Man Win or they like Netflix, both of which are not likely to hang around for the long term.
