I personally think everyone in this situation is retarded. Also it feels like ever since DT came out there is a new slapfight between content creators every day. Or someone getting Google doccy’d over a discord squabble that one (or both) side(s) decide to air out on social media like dirty laundry instead of solving it like adults in private.

When the game fails to provide meaningful content, they devour eachother. Every single time.

Okay finished 7.5. For the first time in like two years I am actually caught up on the MSQ again. Some thoughts:
1) Halmarut is a fuckin cutie and her English VA does things to me.
2) I really liked the Enuo trial. A good amount of mechanics with some tough segments without having the visual vomit of recollection.
3) I dunno if I posted it here, but I more or less foresaw this current plot point with Solstice. Back during Shadowbringers, I got the sense from how the Ardbert stuff worked out that counterpart reflections are more or less naturally conditioned towards rejoining and it was literally only the existence of Hydaelyn keeping them separate. After we killed Hydaelyn in Endwalker, I wondered what kind of effect it would have on the world and whether or not removing both of the wills maintaining order in the world would lead to some kind of natural drift back towards rejoining.
4) It's really cool seeing the Scions get back together officially and even bringing back side characters like Hoary Boulder and that slut Aenor.
5) The Winterers each having their own individual motivations for why they're working with the Ascians seems like it'll actually create some interesting conflicts and character motivations. Calyx was probably the best major antagonist of DT.

I did not watch this. But I did jump to the highlight/end. Dawntrail has more content apparently, but very specifically your enjoyment of that content does not matter, therefore you cannot say 'there is no content' you must qualify it with 'there is content, but it is not fun'. Seems like the content drought hit Wesk pretty hard :story:
Also, is BST in the game yet?

This kind of meticulous autism is why we love Wesk and why his class guides have cornered the market.

I like Wesk and his brand of whatever the fuck he does. I just think this video is funny. From a purely numerical value, apparently there is 495 hours (and new PvP! Wow!) of content in DT.

I get the argument. People who say 'no content' actually mean 'there is nothing fun/worthwhile to do' which are different statements. I just think that 'no content' is shorthand for 'no content I want to play', and he knows that, but then still fights the strawman he knows is a strawman. All the people he is arguing against just left the game if the Bancho survey is showing the trend accurately.

To be fair, his video around homogenization is basically him admitting that homogenization is real but it's a side effect of players in high-end content continuously asking for pain points to be removed even though many of those pain points used to be central to job identity and flavor.

I think he just likes sperging in video essay form to chastise the playerbase for being their own worst enemy.

More power to him, I actually had not watched the homogenization video yet.
I hope Evercold is good, I would like to come back and play with the old FC guys. I hope they run another 3-day free login period before 8.0, would rather not have the start of EC tainted with needing to push through the end of DT.

I wonder just how much bank they'll make selling the story skip for Dawntrail when EC launches.

It's the only expansion that could be completely excised from the player experience with close to zero impact on the overall flow of narrative. We already had setup hooks for needing to go to shards in SHB. Basically as long as you Google the DT macguffin artifact we're using you wouldn't need to know anything else.

I have thoughts for your thoughts.

1) I think Hal's VA is the same lady who voiced Bennedikta in FF16. Voice fits her perfectly imo.
2) Music for Enuo trial is a banger and it's sacrilege that you didn't mention it.
3) I'm conflicted with the story. On one hand these new developments can lead to some interesting interactions with these individuals who seem hell bent on destroying one world to save their own. We could get a villain that only seems evil because they are desperately trying to save their home. It's giving me something to look forward to in the plot. On the other hand, not really fond of yet another apocalypse that we have to somehow plot armor our way through despite doing that 2 other times just before.
4) It's nice to see that Aenor's thirst hasn't changed in almost 15 years.
5) I'd argue that Calyx was dogwater. His whole plan was flawed from the beginning and was basically just a rehash of Endless Sphene's plan. They portrayed him as some super genius but in the end he just amounts to being so scared of death that he nearly shits himself at the thought of dying and has deluded himself into thinking that everyone should continue "living" as piles of memory while sucking creation dry of aether. He's not even the real Calyx, he's just a collection of his memories programmed to behave like him, basically an AI. The real Calyx's fear of death is so ingrained into him, that even his endless feels it.

I could go on some long tangent about how I don't even consider Calyx as a living being but that's a discussion for another time.

The funny thing is he was hard stuck in DSR and TOP to the point he was being a complete salty bitch in Novice Network.

I’m pretty sure he didn’t clear DSR when it was current.

He’s an obnoxious prick who is really creepy towards anyone who is a known female. But he is reallllllllllly good at hiding it.

They're going to need to put in the work, too.
This was originally what I thought, but I've started to think otherwise. If Evercold is better than Dawntrail yet is still a step down from Endwalker, Shadowbringers, Stormblood, etc... it won't matter, because the bar has been lowered so badly and they'd still be "moving in the right direction."

I'm noticing a broader trend, not just with this game, but of so many properties completely shitting the bed and then getting ridiculous hype-trains at the slightest little suggestion of improvement. Sortof like how every Friday when Trump goes "hey guys, war's really over this time, I mean it this time" the markets rally, only to crash again and again on monday when it's clear that it hasn't. A vibes-based entertainment market.

I like his guide videos but Wesk is still a massive twat who gets defensive over DT being shit. About what I'd expect from a guy who lists bsky as one of his main socials.
Maybe she'll use Squirrel-Calyx as a shield.
I will thaw the shard from the fire I stoke off that fucking plushie's corpse. Why can't Square let us just kill a villain instead of having them keep coming back. Who seriously thought "You know what? I like the monotone cancer patient albino child, let's bring him back for next expansion"

The most recent thing that pissed me off with him is in his FanFest recap.
Specifically at 3:10
Also, because they know some people are ridiculous, they made sure to emphasize this is all free
Anyone with a basic degree of fucking pattern recognition is not "ridiculous" for seeing what is blatantly a Battle Pass and worrying that Square is going to try and shoehorn in some more paid bullshit into the game. The UI is the most Mobile-looking shit we've seen out of FFXIV since FFXIV Mobile. He is so primed and coiled to strike at anyone remotely critical of the game unless they do it about things he deems acceptable that it makes listening to him just obnoxious if he's talking about anything that isn't job based (like listening to Xeno say Dawntrail has been the best expansion since Stormblood solely because he likes the raid content).

I'd like some sources on that if you've got any but it wouldn't surprise me at all.

It's a battlepass in the sense that the objective is to obtain points to achieve certain point goals. Real battlepasses always have a paid tier and a free tier, and I don't see a way you monetize a gear progression system in this game. You'd have to completely redo the gear and start systems from the ground up, and also somehow balance endgame encounters to encourage spending money to accommodate it.

His plot utility in evercold has already been telegraphed, he pretty much says that the group are just allies of convenience and he doesn't agree with the others methods, so he's 100% going to fuck one of them over for petty bullshit.

That and we'll probably need him for something because one of the solutions will probably involve some sort of memory transfer, which is his field of expertise.
