I never bothered with mods nor touched the RP scene in any form so none of this modding/mare shit affects me.

Well the big worry for normies (like us) is that when Square Enix gets sick of this and starts coming after mods, that they're going to come after all of them.

I have 0 graphical mods but they can take my /mbard or market board pricing mod over my dead body.

Yeah that’s a good point, I don’t blame people for being worried about the future of modding.
Yeah, really the primary issues is that some mods are core and should be officially adopted, such as NoClippy which makes your game operate and send data as if it was 20ms, which is a major plus since it prevents all clipping from skills from lag and just in general makes the combat feedback better, this basically means for people like me who play cross-continent, it is essentially necessary for some jobs.

Mods like that are the only ones I worry about, all the glamour/fashion mods I don't give much a fuck about. But you can sure guess which category of modders will be the ones to cause trouble for everyone.

Apparently I'm the only one free of sin on this entire board. When the TMD-squads come knocking on my door I'll open it with a clear conscience unlike all of you SINNERS.

TOTAL MODDER DEATH. TOTAL CHEATER DEATH. LEAVE NO BEAST ALIVE NOR "It's only quality of life (removes 99% of buttons)" FAGS ALIVE!!! ROUND HOUSE KICK A MODDER INTO THE CONCRETE, DEFECATE IN A MODDERS FOOD, STIR FRY MODDERS IN A WOK etc etc

I’ve been doing rarefied stuffed peppers and tacos while probably causing mass Alpaca and Rroneek death with my retainers in the progress.

Since you guys are talking about DoH DoL shit I'm just curious what mod going away would affect you the most in this hypothetical doomsday scenario (that's never going to happen btw) that mods do go away? Would you still play with DoH DoL content without it?

I'm just curious cause for me for combat content the only plugin I'd most be affected by is NoClippy but I'd probably still play without it it'd just be annoying. I do Tuesday reclears just fine without it on patch days.

If we're talking DoH/DoL specifically, Artisan going would be irritating, but I could live without it. Raphael has an external site for generating macros, worst case scenario would be I'd craft less simply because I got sick of hitting my macros over and over. Same with Gatherbuddy - while I love how I can just click and teleport to the node with a job swap to boot, there's already tools out there I've used before and would use again for timed nodes and the like. So yeah I'd still do DoH and DoL content, I'd just be pissing and moaning about it more like I used to.

Where Mare fucked up is running their own servers - essentially they were knowingly hosting and transmitting copyrighted assets as an intermediary and I imagine the SE suits were not happy about this, especially since some of it is from other companies that might accuse them under Japanese law of being complicit or encouraging infringement indirectly. JP IP law is insanely strict and I imagine they were told they had to do something so as to absolve themselves from culpability.

VR chat has similar rules for models on the books which is why you can get banned for uploading an a model you don't have the rights to use and mods will actually ask you to produce proof that you have a license to use the model you're piloting if you're reported.

No one cares about the sexual shit realistically. The average MMO player is like 28 or some shit nowadays and the part of the community that uses mods at all (let alone gooner mods) is a tiny fraction of that. I don't want to say no child has ever been groomed on XIV, but the fact that you need to pay a sub to realistically use the social functionality gatekeeps most unattended minors from the game.

I don't bother with mods. Not out of some fake and gay moral crusade, I'm just used to how the vanilla game feels

Also: Right side gear done. And I'll have to repeat the process for the Gatherers

It would be off brand to go after mods like that. FF XI is factually not playable without mods any more and they never did anything about those.

Modding in XI started fairly early, around the first expansion I want to say. It was a simple addition that allowed PC users to window the game. Natively, to this day, you are unable to window XI, it always goes fullscreen and you can't tab out. Windower fixed that. Over time, they added plugins/mods to the windower app. These days you have an impressive selection of mods, adding hotbars like XIV, adding a minimap, updating textures/resolution, speeding up cutscenes, improving the native targeting oh and absurd gear swap functionality which more or less defines the end game at this point. There is another mod version called Asahi, no idea why there are two 'dalamuds' in XI but I guess there was some autistic schism at one point. Granted the modding is less user friendly than we have it in XIV, for a lot of them you have to be able to read .lua files and set everything up by hand. Pic related is my .lua for my BST

You basically are able to define what gear your character wears in whatever circumstance you can think of. There is no cooldown to gear swapping, it happens instantly.

So, this can be seen as something that SE will never touch mods, or that never touching mods has huge rammifications for the game going forwards.

The only ingame plugin I use for DoL stuff is gatherbuddy. It's basically a giant excel spreadsheet that shows all nodes and timers and if you click on an item it'll swap your class, teleports you to the nearest aetherythe, and puts a pin on the minimap. I'd still do what needs to be done for gear upgrade stuff but I would never do anything besides the bare minimum without it.

The only other plugin I'd rather not lose is simple tweaks. It has a feature where it shows you what exactly each stat is doing and how close you are to the next breakpoint. (Why this isn't a builtin feature is beyond me.)

I never really cared about Marefags before because in my DC they're pretty good at keeping all of it locked behind the nightclubs and mostly just do a couple of adverts during the weekends, but If we lose all the quality of life plugins because of them I am gonna lose it.
(None of this would have happened if CBU3 have ever bothered to fix the Shisui gear I just know it)

I doubt all plugins would be taken out. Yoshi isn't that heartless and he knows that there are a lot of good quality plugins that help improve the game a lot for the people who play as well as people that just want to have some fun.

Mare was likely targeted because as some folk already mentioned, it used the same kinda ID reading as Playerscope which the dev implemented to ban certain people from using it. SE probably care more about the fact that people's information could be read and looked up. The getting rid of people who make money off degenerate shit and stopping potential copyright infringement of other IPs was probably just a beneficial side effect like killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

I play on console mostly and never use addons or plugins so none of this effects me fundamentally, but I'm pretty confident that everything else is safe so long as people continue the "don't ask, don't tell" rule. The only thing I have my eyebrow raised at is add ons that basically help people cheat in difficult content. Because Yoshi is at a point where he either needs to get rid of those cheaters, or stop making ultimates altogether and it's pretty unfair to punish a whole group of people because of the actions of a few bad actors. I don't think the "everybody cheats" cope is going to last.

I know it hasn't only been Japanese teams that use addons to cheat at ultimate, but it must have hit harder that twice in a row, it was "world first" teams on Yoshi's side of the pond that were exposed using those types of tools to cheat. I know we got the "development costs" official reason but I wonder if part of the reason the next Ultimate is taking so long is coming to a decision on what they're going to do about cheaters. (Or potentially, they want the whiteboard feature theyre developing live in time for the Ult too)

Gamescom interview with Yoshi P, still going through it, but looks like Ascians are hard confirmed and they aren't going with a fakeout/twist. Also, looking like 7.4 and 7.5 are going to be exploring more of the Ninth rather than Tural, and they're just starting production on 7.5 content.

Assuming that timelines are more or less the same, this would jive with changes happening in 7.3.
