Crazy with how hyper sensitive people are these days and I've seen so little outrage over this literal child in this blatantly sexual outfit. And this is one of those situations where some eyebrow raising is really deserved.
Supposedly it's a reference to this. I don't have a source for that, though.

I am disappointed they didn't give Chichi her tournament outfit.

This art style looks bad, like Super but done by the interns, and none of these except Hercuke look that different design-wise. Chichi just looks like a slightly younger/chibi version of her adult self, nothing at all like her early Dragon Ball design. Android 18 looks literally exactly the same but without boobs, that has to be the laziest thing I've ever seen in my life.

Something about Hercule looks weird as fuck. Buu looks...like Buu, but I'm not sure what else they could've done with him specifically. His head still looks off though.

Tldr; Daima designs are trash.

We know what Chi-Chi looked like as an infant, and they fucked her up.
I don't remember that, was there a flashback or something?

They don't have the balls to give her the outfit she actually wore when she was 12:

Good.

It is a cool costume though. I liked it on her in Super Dragon Ball.

That's kind of the point from what I can tell, everyone was aged regressed by yet another demon emperor but none of their outfits changed. Toei made a big deal of Goku getting blue sleeve extensions, that is the territory we are in.

It's a painting the Ox King has as the only other reminder of his wife.

My point was Chi-Chi had a particular hairstyle until the seven years Goku was dead. Her mid-life outfit would still compliment her original hairstyle.

They just copied Toriyama's newer art... But everyone working on this is a top tier animator, so this will be the best looking DB thing in a long time.

The character designs just aren't very good, I'd say that even if Toriyama himself designed those iterations of the characters. The designs are especially lazy for the girls because they're just shrunken down versions of their adult selves, unlike say, Goku. Goku actually has a distinct look as a kid/adult, which they've more or less maintained, but it used to be true of others characters before too, though apparantly not anymore.

so people consider the manga goku black arc better than the anime's?
really?
they're both shit writing-wise, but i actually felt something when i watched it

First I've heard of that, but I do remember Toyotaro's good will being flushed down the toilet with Moro being Cell 2.

First I've heard of that
it took me out of it when i heard it
are we really going to ignore how fucking lame little god man annihilating the goddamn universe in that was in comparison to the anime, where zamasu warrants a universe deletion?
who cares about what has worse plot contrivances at this point: that's the entire goddamn plot of the series

deleting the universe because the guy could regenerate with more guys is as lame as it was retarded

Deleting the universe as a way to tie up Future Trunks' storyline is retarded, period. If only there was a good future for the boy, one where he took orders from a bratty time Kai and got to lead a whole force of time cops, and reach ssg to boot.

nah, fuck that universe
gohan lost everyone and couldn't kill the androids while normal gohan gets a pep-talk from 16 and goes super saiyan 2
and trunks is a fucking fanfic character, complete with a goddamn sword in a world where they throw energy lasers
what a joke, but that's most of the cell saga

xenoverse 2 is honestly my favorite dragon ball thing ever and i love how it uses everything in the extended db universe

Not having the three years of prep time and one year of one-on-one training with dad really doomed Gohan. It amuses me to no end how Trunks has every feature of a basic oc self insert, and yet he still jobs. That's how bad Vegeta's genes really are lmao.

As for Xenoverse I'd take it a step further and say that the greater Heroes franchise as a whole is what Super should have been. Trading card commercial or not, you can never un-hype Jackie Chun vs Granpa Gohan and Lunch hooking up with Tien.

I've heard crazy things about it. Shit that'd put Multiverse to shame. Then again, it's been years since I read Multiverse.

That's the funny thing about toy commercial shows: the more product there is to buy the more the media makes the product look cool, and as such Heroes has managed to cater to fight autists and lorefags at the same time.

No one ever talks about these interview videos, so I'm bringing them up here as a means to explore why Super's manga is so crummy compared to the original: https://en.dragon-ball-official.com/movie/02_2181.html
At the 8 minute mark they start talking about how Toriyama uses a lot of build up while not actually drawing too much, allowing the reader's imagination to fill in the spaces between the panels. Goku going super saiyan for the first time is used as the example, and it's actually just one build up panel before his hair changes. Getting the reader to do all the hard work is totally alien to Toyotaro, and it's why his work looks so flat and still.

I just really like playing as earthlings in Xenoverse and bitchmaking all the gods after getting shit on for most of the series.
also, big flash teleporty combos and knowing all the ki waves fulfills my inner child

It's not just about artwork. Even the writing quality is down, which is saying something when it comes to something as inconsistent as Dragonball.

Toyotaro clearly grew up with the anime first, then read the manga later—and probably none of Toriyama's other works. Toriyama's style is notoriously difficult to copy since it's not just his personal drawing style, it's the structure of his layouts. And you'd think the layouts would've been a cinch to pick up on given how influential he is as a mangaka, but that's only if you study his works.

Also his ability to make up shit by the seat of his pants is only (maybe) matched by Araki. Has Toyotaro done that yet, or does he rely on someone else to write for him?

Was it the manga or the anime that first forgot that blue is supposed to be mastered ss1 on steroids and have perfect fuel efficiency? Because that thing turned into a worse version of ss3 real quick in hindsight.

Studying an artist and trying to copy his style is astoundingly difficult to do because art is the physical expression of the human condition, and as such will always be colored by personal experience. That being said, Goddamn it if I was a dedicated fan of dragon ball AND hellbent on getting into the industry as an artist, I would have learned how vital body language is before I entered by forties, to say nothing of panels.

Go look at ss2 Gohan and Beast Gohan's debut pages and the differences are night and day: both may look stern and be surrounded by woosh effects, but only one of them looks ready to stomp a cockroach flat.

Manga Goku Black arc had them switch from god to blue when they were attacking so it was manga.
good fucking job

I just like how much more violent it was honestly.

I didn't mind a sad ending, but it did bother me they just sent Trunks off to another time to co-exist with alternate versions of themselves, it just feels weird and cheap. Ehy not just stay with the main cast?

It does feel like they forgot that, maybe they didn't want to just retread SS1-3 but blue, which is fair I guess, but it irks me that those should be the next logical steps yet aren't. The whole Blue Evolution/Ego/Instinct shit just feels random, which at least works better with Beast.
