Actually I dont want the older style tit armor gooner games or the new attempt at making less honest but still as immature high school romance tier pornography that masquerades as a mature romance system because it was designed less with men in mind, instead having the insane idea that you can be as lazy in trying to pander to women's sexuality by having pc character designs made without aesthetics in mind strut for them because they dont understand the difference between stated morality and actual aesthetic and personality preferences

i want actual games where a woman can be like some mysteries innocent looking robed figure that you have to follow in the woods who isnt trying to suck your dick and where the men arent designed like i walked into a pride parade to have my anus inverted and moreover im tired of pretending the later is somehow more mature or that the former never happens irl and thus must be stamped out for that reason vs just thats immature.

i feel like the romance in these kind of games have always been the weakest link

Are we arguing about the practicality of armors vs sexualization of them?

It was confirmed by most historians that the armor that we think of, the ones that knights wear in fantasy genre and in King Arthur stories, were actually ceremonial in nature. Metals were rare and expensive back then, so these were given out by the king to his favored minions, or commissioned by wealthy noblemen as a status symbol. Hence, they were worn at court or at parades rather than in the battlefield. That's why there were so many impractical decorative features like codpieces, feathers, and other stuff that would normally make the wearer a slow, glowing target.

Actual soldiers back then had to make do with whatever their more meager allowances would allow, so the armors were poorer in quality, usually, and made up of whatever they could get their hands on. That's also why several kings in England had been bankrupt by wars. Waging one, and arming your men with at least okay quality armor and weapons to secure wins, do not come cheap.

Wearing pants isn't slutty. I'm talking slutty as in, showing as much skin as possible, all the armor accentuating or exposing the body, and as skimpy as possible. This doesn't even count as slutty, dude, are you kidding me? You seriously think this is a slutty thing for a guy to wear? As for Shao Kahn, eh, he looks a little slutty, in a Conan-sort of way, but compared to Mileena or Katana, this isn't shit. I wanna see slutty dudes in my games.
He's basically dressed to go to a gay BDSM club. What the fuck are you talking about?

I saw someone on the Steam forums link this site: https://gamalytic.com/game/1845910. Is anyone here familiar with it? It seems possible to scrape all public profiles to see if they own a given game, as well as doing some estimation for private profiles, but I don't have a clue what their methodology is. In any case, I think the estimate of around 200k total sales on Steam is realistic given a peak concurrent in the high 70 thousands.

I am curious for some realistic estimates on how it's actually doing financially. Totally winging it myself, but if we grant 200k on Steam, maybe 50k on other PC storefronts and an equal amount of console sales (some game will skew heavily one way or another, but I don't see why Veilguard would), we're looking at 500k copies sold. With a $60 price tag and accounting for retailer fees (~30%), maybe around $20 million in revenue for Bioware?

I've also seen people estimating from like 100 million to 250 million in development costs given various factors (the huge employee pool, protracted development, the cost of their past games, etc.). No one is doing any real math, and it's not even possible to have access to the relevant numbers, but it feels like that's a realistic range. In any case, my take so far is that it's just an okay launch, and has a very long way to go until profitability. I don't see it having very good legs, personally.

They did try to woke-ify romance, but the hardcore romance readers still want hot white straight billionaire dick and innocent damsels in distress. The woke eventually splinters off into different genres new adult, young adult, as seeping into the fantasy genre instead, turning most of the recent releases into girlboss teenage lead stories that keep discovering new and increasingly awesome powers without any effort to train or learn while agonizing over which glowing boyfriend to choose - the vampire, the half-dragon, the sexy werewolf, the merman, the godling, the satyr... ohhhhh the dilemma of being so UwU and speshul.

Are we arguing about the practicality of armors vs sexualization of them?
the former is only cared about by most becuase of the latter. if there wasnt a push against the "male gaze" or if some people didnt personally dislike it thered be no issue about if its realistic or not because no one talks about how barbarians wouldnt actually just wear a loincloth or how so and so's swordfighting technique is laughably inaccurate because those arent hot button issues. its just an excuse to get what one wants
i fucking hate how creepy and dystopian the article actually is celebrating that theyve made young people basically hate things just because the left wing complex tells them to even if theyd normally pick it and how intent it is on changing human nature for no real reason. and how uninterested it is in actually making a healthy introduction to sexuality when older through healthy mediums and not through gooner games at young ages but instead making those gooner games less traditionally feminine because of their insane narrow and arbitrary ideological bent and nonsensical goals.
It's absolutely nothing new, yet some people seem to forget that the basic principle of a woman is that she'll say one thing, but what it means is exactly the opposite.
and like the article will invent some new bs feminist concept to explain it as anything but "women want to be sexy but feel like they shouldnt because they dont want to be a scab of sorts for the feminist agenda"
ohhhhh the dilemma of being so UwU and speshul.
its interesting that they cant just admit they want to just be desired so its always tons of useless build up of lore that basically just justifies how its not enforcing patriarchal norms for her to lust over men and their dicks.
They did try to woke-ify romance, but the hardcore romance readers still want hot white straight billionaire dick and innocent damsels in distress.
its funny that in actual dedicated romance and erotic material you can still just openly state racial preferences and dont have to pretend trans people are their pretend gender instead they have their own category. you can say timmy is a woman all you want for brownie points but when thinking about whos going dick down who timmy is just a man in a dress as he is in reality.

It's good to know that Bioware's timeless tradition of "one really good game and then nothing but trash for its sequels" is being honored. The legacy of the original Bioware lives on at EA.

I get that this game sucks and people are eager to talk about other things, but...

A few things with this. Firstly:
“Sexism pervades gaming. For example, game content overwhelmingly features male characters to the exclusion of central female or gender minoritized characters. Games that do feature female or gender minoritized characters often unfavorably stereotype and objectify these groups. In online gaming experiences, men and boys target women, girls, and gender minoritized individuals with sexist and harassing communication.”

“I want to know more about why, when, and how these kinds of outcomes happen. At the same time, many women and girls and people who identify outside of the binary enjoy gaming a great deal. I count myself among them. Understanding why these people enjoy games in spite of (or even because of!) the challenges sexism presents in gaming is fascinating to me. This study is one part of answering those big questions.”
She's talking about two different things here: games that sexualize women, and online games where male gamers target women (fuck the other genderspecial tranny shit) and harass them. She only addresses one of them, though (at least in the article), so Idk why she thinks women playing sexy characters in a fighting game would stop men from being pricks. She also talks about "the binary" which already makes me suspicious as fuck that she's got some internalized misogyny, but whatever.

The first experiment included 239 undergraduate students from a communication program, with the majority of participants identifying as female.
> the majority of participants identifying as female
So they admit that they let men into the study, thus skewing and ruining the results. So already, all these results are going to be fucked up, but let's see what we've got here.
The researchers conducted two controlled experiments to investigate how different design elements influence perceptions of female video game characters. Each experiment used unique character designs created in the fighting game SOULCALIBUR VI, providing participants with a range of female characters that varied systematically in their sexualization and strength cues.

1. The researchers created four distinct types of female characters using SOULCALIBUR VI: each character was customized to represent one of four combinations of sexualization and strength—high sexualization with high strength, high sexualization with low strength, low sexualization with high strength, and low sexualization with low strength.

After viewing each clip, participants rated the characters across several dimensions, such as perceived sexualization (e.g., if the character’s attire seemed revealing), strength (their perceived physical power), femininity (alignment with traditional feminine traits), and likability (how much participants would enjoy playing as the character). At the end of the viewing session, participants also completed a selection survey, choosing which of the characters they would prefer to play.

Wow, what a surprise, the women picked the character with the highest strength. Also, by the way, the fact that they don't SHOW what any of the pre-made characters look like is telling.

The researchers also found that high sexualization was a key factor in perceptions of femininity and character likability. Characters with high sexualization were viewed as more traditionally feminine, yet they were also less liked, particularly by female participants.
Yeah, no shit.

Female participants generally disliked highly sexualized characters but were more likely to choose characters with high femininity traits (typically associated with higher sexualization cues) when given a choice.

... Lynch told PsyPost, “That said, I was surprised to see that in our first study women still selected the most sexualized character when asked which character they would choose to play."
Yes, because they picked the character that was the strongest. She never specifies whether they pick the character based on how she looks versus how strong she is. There's also no info given about how familiar any of the women are with fighting games, how good their skills are, etc.

Gender differences were again observed in this experiment, specifically around the competence ratings. Female participants viewed high-strength characters as more competent compared to low-strength characters, while this difference was not significant among male participants.
Not surprised by this one.

This whole "study" smells of bullshit. You make 4 different character types, don't post any of the pics (if they're in the full doc, someone can post them, but I didn't see them in the news article), give the sexiest one the highest strength, then when all the women pick her, you declare it's because women willingly chose her, therefore they're all just complaining about nothing! Checkmate!
What they should've done was give the least sexy one the highest strength, and vice versa. Or let all the participants make their own character, not select from premade ones. Then that REALLY would've shown what women like and don't like. And this goes right back to Bioware and why women like their games (or liked, I guess). Getting to customize your own character and act like a badass (and be feared or respected) is very, very appealing to anyone, man or woman.

Decided to fully play through Origins because it's the one Bioware original I haven't played. I'm having fun. As I posted earlier, the trash ass tactic system really bogged down the early game for me. I hate all the early guides that recommended I go frost mage because I did no fucking damage for way too long. It's good for CC and killing dragons. Everything else? God, it's useless. Fire is infinitely more useful and Morrigan was geared towards that anyway along with telekinesis and mind-related shit. Maybe I'll pick it back up on my new character once I've finally got blood magic's one abiltiy.

I banged Morrigan, a desire demon for the lols (then I reloaded and got blood magic and reloaded again to get the skill/spell tome), and that one knife-ear's crush for the lols as well.
could you see the team that made the new shitheap ever allow you to do the latter two things?
The tactics are actually pretty good. Better than NWN and the other DA games for sure. You should set them yourself manually to get them to work more cooperatively, and they don't work that well for rogues which generally require micro for backstabbing. Obviously you can just micromanage the whole party if you want.

Frost line isn't that bad, winters grasp is fairly good damage and can slow or even freeze enemies, cone of cold is a very good CC and freeze spell that also has good damage and is the best option for setting up shatter. Blizzard and the enchant are pretty bad.
Fire is the best for damage and has fireball which is one of the best spells in the game.
Lightning and the Stonefist lines are pretty bad unless you want to go all in on primal.

Forcefield is another one of the best spells because it can be used on any target and doesn't reduce threat like it's meant to if used on a tank.

Just got done with the elf forest. Damn, what a fun chapter. Nothing like a good old-fashioned genocide against an inferior race. TED/Total Elf Death always puts a smile on my face.
i'm probably going to make a lot of can you imagine remarks but can you really imagine modern bioware letting you commit genocide that is arguably justified against an elf that was victimized becoming a victimizer of far greater proportions?
Based? Wait till you get to visit the Alienage.

I'm a woman
We can tell.

There shouldn't be boob armour because women shouldn't be fighting or wearing armour in the first place - As Koslun intended.

Anyway fantasy armour and weapons aren't about being realistic at all. The entire point is aesthetics and looking rad AF to the player.

I agree with you 1000%. I want a game where characters feel like they stepped out of a 1950's action-adventure movie. Where I get to be their friend, and they're cool as hell, and I want to pick their brain about everything because they're that well-written (Mass Effect felt a little like that, and 2, as well, and Fallout New Vegas). But at the end of the day, gamedevs will always be gamedevs.

People should stop being so heteronormative. Men are sexualized too in games meant for gay men and fujoshis. Take a look at itch.io or horrifically NSFW games like Another Eidos. It's fair, it's democracy.

Avert your eyes, people, if you don't want to see sexualized males in demeaning battle gear.

(Yes, these are all warriors.)

Your post isn't matching what the article stated, or is summarizing from the study put together by two women and a man. Maybe you can pay the $37.50 to view the study?

Hell yeah, Tokyo Afterschool Summoners! Now if I could have a follower like that in an Elder Scrolls game, I'd actually pre-order the fucking thing.

Do you fucking talk to women at all? Women like ogling men's asses, too.
Shut the fuck up. Nobody cares. Make another thread if you want to bitch about bikini armor and the male gaze.

I'm pretty sure these are baras, which are typically made by gay men for gay men.
