Although one can argue that game preservation is important and this doesn't (and probably can't) compete with any existing Destiny product, who's to say whether Sony's lawyers will see it that way?
9 months ago some discord group reported that they made a huge progress for Concord private servers and it was almost instantly shotdown. First video I've found in the YouTube:
So my hopes are quite low unless Sony is afraid of the pushback.

Destiny 2's writing is in such an abyssmally dogshit state that this genuinely can either be either a joke or 100% canon and I have no way of telling.
Zavala's wife left him after his wife's son died. His wife then went on to fuck another man and have children while immortal cuckmander Zavala watched as his wife's children and his wife descendants grew up in the tower as he defended them. Thank you D2 team this was more important than bringing back SIVA or developing new pve Factions.

it all makes sense when you realize the plot went to shit when a woman took over as narrative lead around season of the chosen, the same time they started blatantly retconning lore

I don't believe that women are inherently bad writers, but these women and wherever they get them from are a plague.
"Meaningful human stories like the MCU"

Lol what
The term "goycattle" gets thrown around a lot these days but genuinely believing the MCU is anything but mass produced slop is cattle behavior. Like you belong in a barn if you think this.

#NotAllWomen, but there's definitely a type that sucks at writing for sure.

To me Destiny was always more of a setting with some neat lore thrown in, while I work through an AT BEST average story with cool set pieces or a neat villain here or there. There is no reason for the writing to have gotten as bad as it did, besides the people they hired have no talent whatsoever.

What sucked the most for me about the shift in Destiny's storytelling, and I've mentioned it here before, was the pivot from being more about a large and mysterious universe, to focusing on interpersonal relationships. The grandiosity was gone over time. The massive and enigmatic Pyramid Fleet got downscaled into being just the Witness. Rasputin in the lore went from an enigmatic machine God to feeling bad over mistrusting the Guardians and killing them. Even the good D2 DLCs lacked the grandiosity of The Taken King.

if you look at the study made by lego, it seems they hired regular women instead of the exceptional ones, which are the whole anita sarkeesian type of people that hate gamers and will engage in this retarded war that we've been seeing, including the jeet-tier nepotistic hiring and trying to remove problematics from their workspace, even if that means the game will bomb, they will just golden parachute away.

that's the MCU writing, baby.

It didn't only destroy the mystique, it also made the characters shit. Each character became a babbling fucking overemotional redditor. They became the same thing. Someone like Queen Mara was cool before, both lorewise and "in person". But that was a long time ago.

The problem with writing interpersonal relationships is that the player, the Guardian is not a character. They're a walking camera, or a gun that you point at the villain of the week. This is why all those seasonal stories where everyone was getting character development were so shit, we are just watching these people talk about their lives with no input. It's like sitting in the narrative cuck chair.

For example, I really like the Stranger. I've thought she was cool since D1. Then we finally start getting her in some story content and it turns out she's besties with everyone but us, including Mara fucking Sov.

I honestly hadn't thought about it that hard, but you really hit the nail on the head there.

I like a big world that I can get lost in, both literally and metaphorically. I definitely don't go full John "story in games is like story in porn" Carmack, I think games can be a fantastic way to tell stories. But you need to be telling the right kind of story for the game.

Like you said, the Guardian is not a character. You have no input in the story whatsoever. Things happen around you that you don't even get to react to. I think only one time were we able to actually make a story choice, all the way back in season 6 when you chose to side with the Drifter or the Vanguard, and all that happened was a couple of dialogue lines changed, and eventually your choice was completely forgotten.

Characters constantly talk about "the Guardian," but you're really nothing more than a weapon (eh? eh? Edge of Fate?). You just listen to everyone blather on about their problems and being a heckin' decent human being/Awoken/Exo. Even when you should be talking, Ghost just talks for you instead; remember the long-running memes of how the Guardian forgot to talk for years? As a player, we have simply never had a chance to have any input on the story. It's certainly not something like Mass Effect where you can choose how to react to basically every single event in the game.

So if you're not building a game where you have that option, then you should not be focused on telling small, intimate, interpersonal stories. You should make it so the player is part of a grand, sweeping narrative where they're fighting aliens and struggling to protect the last remnant of their civilization from the forces that caused its demise. That's not to say you can't have character moments, but the universe as a whole should be big and mysterious, not clustered around a few characters blathering on.

Add it to the "what could have been" pile.

It's part of the reason I have such a problem with Mara Sov in her current state. Back in D1 she was this mysterious, beautiful character who was fairly antagonistic to the Tower alongside Uldren. Good villain material. But then Taken King happened and she got yoinked out of the story for literal years. From TTK to Forsaken, that was 3 years right? Give it another to let her out of her dumbass little Throne World and now we're back with Mara.

Then the next few seasons are all about her "character dvelopment" slowly but surely chipping away at all the aspects that made her interesting until she's ultimate just blue Galadriel with all these vague paracausal powers. That's not even getting into how Mary Suey she is or how characters like Osiris and Clovis got tossed aside just so she could look good.

Crow was alright, I actually liked Crow but then they tried to fuse him and Uldren into one character and it's just bleh. Then you got Amanda dying, so now all he does is cry and angst and yeah. Not a mystery that the soap opera format of storytelling didn't do too well.

GREAT SUCCESS :story:

Meanwhile D2 on Steam has over 11k :D

That's a funny joke lol

Bungie always struggled with balancing between giving the Guardian characterization and having the Guardian be involved with the general plot, I like seeing my character say hes gonna take direct action against Uldren, i like the little gestures and body language they got in red war and i like hearing him talk with Ghost in ways that progress either the main plot or a side quest but once we started getting near the end and we were understandably known for being a pretty powerful and important Guardian our character moments were less characterization and more talking with my one of many cheerleaders before i go shoot more things.
For example, I really like the Stranger. I've thought she was cool since D1. Then we finally start getting her in some story content and it turns out she's besties with everyone but us, including Mara fucking Sov.
I really liked Drifters Lore where it talks about how he and his ghost hated each other and that there's a chance the ghost might not even revive him next time he dies so imagine my disgust when renegades has her be a Jersey biker chick who cares about drifter. Honestly everything after final shape felt like it was made to piss me, Gambit player number 1 off cause he shows up as a main character in Edge of fate and Renegades but he also gets nine touched into being old for no reason. At least he gets with Eris Morn, i thought they made a cute couple ever since season of the deep.

Man the actual plot of Edge of fate was really good, shame about everything else
remember the long-running memes of how the Guardian forgot to talk for years?
I remember those stopping after Forsaken came out and we were talking again
Curse of Osiris gets a lot of shit, and it deserves it, but I have a soft spot for that version of Osiris and Sagira.
I just miss the entire year one plot, like you said it has its flaws and deserves the criticism but man what i would give to replay red war, curse and warmind

A bunch of D2fags like Tassi and Cross are vagueposting out of the blue so now people are speculating (coping) about a possible revival.

Earlier this year, Bungie ended live-service development for Destiny 2 with Monument of Triumph on June 9, 2026, putting the game into maintenance after nearly nine years of updates. Bungie said Destiny 2 would remain playable, but no more major content drops were planned, and Sony later cut most of the Destiny team in a June 25 restructuring.

That made the future of the series look bleak. Reporting in May said Destiny 3 wasn’t greenlit or in production, while other Destiny pitches had also failed to get approval. Bungie had even discussed alternatives such as a Destiny 2 relaunch called Destiny Infinity, but cost and risk reportedly killed those plans too.

Now, a new round of creator hints has put Destiny back on the rumor board.

Destiny 3 or Destiny 2 Revival? What the new Bungie hints actually suggest

The latest chatter started earlier this week after several Destiny creators began acting unusually cryptic. Aztecross, who had previously said he’d only return to Marathon if Destiny had a future, according to players who followed his earlier streams. He then unexpectedly booted Marathon back up recently.

During the stream, he then told viewers, “At some point we might just be a big happy family.”

Mactics, another popular Destiny 2 creator, added to the speculation with a post containing only the Latin phrase, “Nulla tenaci invia est via,” which translates to “For the tenacious, no road is impassable.”

The rumor gained more weight when Forbes contributor Paul Tassi addressed these creator hints on X yesterday, writing, “As for the creator wink winks I keep getting asked about, where there’s smoke…. But don’t let your imagination go too wild.”

More importantly, when asked whether the teasing was related to Marathon’s season 3, he said it wasn’t.

Another small detail adding fuel to the speculation came today from Ansonikage, who announced that he has returned to Bungie as a freelance Game Capture Artist. “Today was my first day back with Bungie as now a Freelance Game Capture Artist / Runner,” he wrote, adding that he “can’t wait to share with you all what comes next.”

His return has already led some players to wonder whether Bungie could be bringing back people affected by its recent layoffs, especially with the timing lining up with the other strange activity around Destiny this week. For now, though, there’s no evidence that Bungie has started rehiring laid-off Destiny developers on a wider scale.

The three theories getting the most attention right now are Destiny 3, a return to active Destiny 2 development, and some form of Destiny 1 remake. There’s no confirmation for any of them, but the fact that several creators are suddenly being cryptic at the same time has given players a reason to think Bungie may have more planned for Destiny.

Whatever Bungie has planned, there’s one practical problem: the studio no longer has the roughly 400 people who were once working on Destiny 2. Even if Sony has greenlit a new Destiny project behind closed doors, rebuilding a team and getting a full game into production would take time.

The faster route would be restarting active development on Destiny 2, since Bungie already has the game, its systems, and years of content in place. For now, that makes a Destiny 2 revival easier to picture in the near term than a completely new sequel or a Destiny 1 remake appearing out of nowhere.

Just to add: take everything here with a grain of salt. Nobody has announced a new Destiny game, and Destiny 3 still isn’t confirmed.

Would you rather see Bungie revive Destiny 2, remake the original Destiny, or commit to Destiny 3? Let us know in the comments.
