So...the Deaf community's view of hearing-impaired people is basically the same as OPL's view of spergs?

My niece is deaf, and when my sister finally got her cochlear implants approved she posted it on Facebook and got a TON of fucking death threats from people in the deaf community.I have a friend who is is sort of on the outskirts of the deaf community and they are such a white knight when it comes to deafness. It's hilarious.
I always act the part with them just to witness their exceptionalness.
An example is when I brought gene hacking with fertilized eggs and the societal implications with the deaf community since parents would rather have a non deaf child than a deaf one. Suffice to say, they lost their mind.
Edit: Here's a comment from the reddit thread
You talkin' shit about mai waifu?Guess making Shizune, the deaf girl, very blunt and obnoxious was intentional on the devs part.
It's a tribal thing.
"Me born with big lump. Big lump good, because part of me. Other grugs with no big lump, bad people, not part of tribe."
How the heck is being deaf a priviledge? I wonder, does the Deaf Community ever get pissy about not being allowed to serve in the military (for obvious reasons)? In general, the more insular and exclusionary a community becomes, the weirder the beliefs held by its members become. It makes sense the Deaf community would have some strange facets, given that they have a language all their own. Though the amount of bitterness held towards people with non-deaf disabilities certainly surprised me.
I’m curious about the “switched at birth” element of this group, fandom drama is always entertaining.

Enjoy this change.org petition.
We need to be aware that babies that are born deaf are being told they will be fixed if they get a cochlear implant. This involves a major surgery and is unnecessary. The baby is not "broken" and surgery isn't necessary. Please sign this petition to ban surgical procedures on children that are born Deaf and give them their right to choose for themselves. Being Deaf is a priviledge not a disease.
I was saying they have a secret language in the same way chinese people in america have a secret language. I meant they can have a private conversation in front of a typical person and that person won't understand them. I was suggesting this creates a separation, not some weird conspiracy.ASL is hardly secret when basically every community college and college in the US teaches it. Even russell fucking greer can sign
Look, there's nothing wrong with being proud of who you are, but if you're crossing the street and can't hear the blaring horn of a semi-truck coming that won't be able to stop in time, THAT IS A DISABILITY.
Yeah Makaton is mainly for people with speical needs which means they can't communicate effectively with verbal language. I work with kids that can still respond to normal questions but use makaton to help explain what they want or need specifically. I guess it's a lot simpler than BSL as its in spoken word order, but I believe they share signs with each other (as in, makaton uses BSL signs, just not the grammar). If I remember correctly, Makaton is for British people with special needs, from what I've seen, while the Deaf community understood and recoginzed Makaton for their usefulness to help disabled children communicate, they also are disgruntled about them because hearing people tried to use Makaton method instead of British Sign Language on Deaf children.
I think they're ok as long as people are able to recognize both of them aren't the same thing.
Audism, belief that the ability to hear makes one superior to those with hearing loss.
Knowing how tumblr kids are, it makes me wonder if some of them have tried putting their headphones on at full blast for hours in a desperate bid to be more special.
Now that we've thoroughly discussed deaf CULTure and how stuck up and horrible the deaf people who participate in it can be, can anyone shed some light on possible reasons why they are the way they are?
If you're at the point that you nearly killed people because of your own stupidly stubborn decisions you need to hang yourself tbqhIn High School, one of the people in my circle of friends was deaf. I don't think she was born that way, but she had some type of accident when she was a baby and it cost her most (if not all) of her ability to hear. She had some type of hearing aide that could be removed, and usually got by with reading lips (also I believe she could hear very high pitches, she had special phone alerts & such).
Anyway, one day my friend and I were hanging out with her, she was driving and an ambulance comes blazing down the road from behind. Cars start clearing way but my deaf friend just kept driving like everything was cool. I started telling her she had to pull into the median to let the ambulance pass, but she wasn't fucking getting the message whatsoever and almost killed us. I noticed after that she wasn't wearing her hearing aide and it turned into a full blown argument. This wasn't the first time either according to her mom, she had a tendency to do dumb shit like that. I get that having a disability isn't ideal, but it's imperative to be able to hear what's going on around you when you're driving.
A few years later when I was on break from Uni, I was getting coffee with a friend and we somehow end up talking about the deaf girl. Apparently she was kicked out of college because she kept refusing to wear her hearing aide, and since she couldn't hear anything it effected her grades negatively. She would go to the Administration and complain constantly that her grades were only bad because she couldn't hear, and they asked her why she wasn't wearing her hearing aid(s) while in class. She threw some tantrum about "ableism" and all that shit but ultimately they told her that if she didn't wear the hearing aides that she couldn't come back next semester... so she didn't. Why you would pay tuition just to not get anything in return, I have no idea. It was like she was intentionally trying to make life harder on herself for some fucked up reason.
I'm considered legally blind, even with corrective lenses my sight is nowhere near perfect. I have restrictions on my license and if I go up another couple numbers Im screwed because they don't make contacts in that strength. I'm not a candidate for lasix, but Im hoping that will change in the near future. All I can see without contacts is shadows and color blur, I can't imagine trying to function without them. I could, but my quality of life would be greatly reduced.
It's not the same thing as being deaf obviously, but why would you not utilize everything available to give yourself the best quality of life possible? So you can get pity points in the "Opreshun" Olympics?

iirc ASL has its origins in France so it might be the frogs' fault.can anyone shed some light on possible reasons why they are the way they are?
