To change the subject from Deluxe Remaster, did anybody check out the expansion mod for OTR that came out recently?

What happened to his people was extremely terrible and unfair but commit terrorism on some random american town to "send a message" was truly short sighted
Frank puts it best when he yells at him before he dies. "That doesn't excuse what you've done! But I promise you, Santa Cabeza's story will be told."
Dead Rising 2 is pretty Kino. Hope they don't remake it.
I'd be more interested in a remake of 2 if we didn't live in a censorship hell scape. The game could use a fresh coat of paint and a few of Off the Record's additions back ported, but we are going to get a highly censored shit version with a new voice actor for Chuck who

Bad example, that sounds bitching
Youd like it like I liked Dead Rising 2s gameplay on a superficial level but is it really RE4 at that point? Let me give a different example maybe, compare say the capcom build of Red Dead Revolver which was very arcadey to Gun which is arguably proto Red Dead Redemption. Shoehorning in the gameplay of the latter in the former did make the former good in some circles but if Im a fan of arcade shooters with scoring systems optional achievements and tough bosses, am I really going to be happy with an open world game with a story and missions and side quest busy work? DR2 disappoints me, Im not angry with it, I just find it incredibly generic and tedious compared to the first game, both on writing and gameplay levels.

I would be very interested in trying some of these big mods out, much like I have been recently trying out Pokemon ROMhacks for the first time.
I know that Dead Rising 2 has a mod that turns it into third person Left 4 Dead and Dead Rising 3 has an overhaul mod formerly called "Dick's Cut". I cannot confirm if the modder is jewish, but I do know he brought back some cut content, like breakable doors(broken pieces of which can be used as weapons), cut bicycle and cellphone weapons among other changes. I don't want to mess up my achievement/PP trial progress so I am not trying it out right now, but that might be something to think about in the future.

Off The Record doesn't need any big overhauls, as it is pretty much a perfect Dead Rising game already. Only change I would make is adding in Impact Hammers from Case West, they're one of my favorite weapons not just in this franchise but in all of gaming so why they bothered giving us some useless combo weapons nobody ever used from CW but not bring Impact Hammers over is beyond me.

Frank puts it best when he yells at him before he dies. "That doesn't excuse what you've done! But I promise you, Santa Cabeza's story will be told."

Which makes the fact that him exposing the truth about Santa Cabeza and Willamette, which should be two massive military/governmental scandals that would make Watergate blush, leading to an apathetic shrug from the population as they focus on the "next big thing" a whole more depressing.

its no wonder Frank became pretty sarcastic in OTR (not to DR4's extent tho)

Worst part? its probably one of the most realistic things in Dead Rising.

I don't think the setting of Dead Rising really gets enough attention. The first game is rather minimal, it's supposedly the same contemporary 2006 world as ours, minus Santa Cabeza and the queens. Dead Rising 2 has a whole shitload of background stuff used as promotional material, with the most known one being "Case Zero" prequel. What most people don't know is that there were "Tape it or Die!" blogs that talked about the life in post-Willamette America, with the bloggers themselves being hidden survivors in DR2/OTR. Most interesting factoid from that era to me is that zoos in Fortune City would actually zombify their sick or old animals so that they could be used in a zombie-animal exhibit. What, you thought TIR was bad enough? It gives CURE a little bit more reason to exist in this world, even if they are completely retarded.

I am almost 100% done with Dead Rising 3, only a couple more combo weapon challenges and I am finished. That said, the setting of Dead Rising 3 is also fascinating, and unlike with DR2 it is mostly found in-game, right down to having an entire museum dedicated to giving you little factoids of lore(for example, dolphins went extinct due to all the micro-plastics in the ocean and global warming, we also never went to the moon in this timeline). The main plotline revolves around people being microchipped, America becoming a mass-surveillance state with cameras and propaganda around every corner, a divided nation ready to backstab one another over political issues and the country being ruled by psychopaths who want to enact martial law nationwide. Honestly, it fits much more at home in 2024 than in 2014. The game takes place in 2021 and I saw an anon on 8/v/ talk about all the similarities it has to our world posted in 2021, but I can't find my screenshot of that post anywhere.

One has to wonder what kind of potential we could see with this world, I know there were a few movies based off DR but all of them appear to be mediocre and I have only seen the first one. If anything deserved a TV show, it would be Dead Rising but it's better that it won't, the franchise has suffered enough lately.

It's been almost a month since 1's remake came out, let's see how it's doing!

Oh.

Ehhh, Im okay with that. Its best Capcom leaves this franchise alone since I really believe it already did what it could with the concept and gameplay. The series peaked with Dead Rising 2 OTR, of which Im replaying right now as a matter of fact and I actually was thinking to myself "Wow, I really am having fun".

OTR really felt like the DR formula perfected. The correct amount of over the top and Frank is really at his finest here, having evolved from a straight man to self aware sarcastic straight man, not afraid to embrace his own reputation as Frank Freaking West. The timer was very balanced and the zombies were the correct amount of threat and obstacle. The survivor AI is surprisingly ok but that could just be me having adapted to its quirks over the years (pointing them where to go works way better than to just follow you). The combo weapons didnt overstay their welcome and they felt grounded enough to not be too silly (and honestly, the fact that some of them are uselessly gimmicky is good because not all of them are worth the hassle, preventing them to be OP constantly).

You cant really improve on the formula because it has been perfected already, DR 3 had to raise the stakes but the quality didnt really follow along and the less said about DR 4, the better.

As for this mediocre remaster, I think most will probably just stick with the original.

Is the game even gonna get a single fixing patch? There were quite a few bugs when I played.

The physical edition should be coming out soon, so I assume at least 1 patch is a given.
According to Steam DB, the game was getting (not yet launched) updates almost daily... for about a week or 2, and it hasn't been touched for about 3 weeks now. It will likely get one update for the most broken stuff and then be forgotten about.

Then I guess they didnt fix the shit I had problens with when I was acthally playing it.
Last time I booted it up to finish the story was september 26th so it is possible.

I think it really implies that Capcom didnt really had many expectations for this and it makes sense all things considered...this goes back and forward between a remaster and remake because it IS caught in this awkward middle ground.

It updates the visuals but then also take its own liberties like a remake.

I'll be honest, Capcom didnt put that much thought into this and why should they? The Dead Rising brand was on a downward trend post OTR and diminishing returns were difficult to ignore after 4 but there were still nerds asking for a DR1 remake with the RE engine so why not? They completely outsourced the production to ching-chongs and DEI worshippers because, again, why should they care much about a brand that has not much to give anymore?

This really was a low risk endeavor for Capcom, even if they dont win big, they will still get a some profit from it or at least lose very minimally with the confirmation Dead Rising will remain dead (good).

I think the lack of anyone at CAPCOM interested in the series plays a bigger role. It was Keiji Inafune's baby - more so than Megaman - and he found a Canadian studio that could keep the series going. CAPCOM lost both and hasn't gotten much fresh blood, so who would be left to have any strong ideas for a new game?

I really need to play that one. I've only played DR2. But I've always heard great things about this one. It's been going on sale a lot.
Oh, it's fantastic. You should definitely give it a try, it's arguably the the best DR game, and one that has the most evolved mechanics to date. There is Dead Rising 3 which could be considered it's fork in evolution, but DR2: OTR is more faithful to the older formula. I would suggest actually playing DR1 and then DR2 beforehand, DR1 since this is a non-canon sequel to that game and DR2 since OTR is a remix of DR2. Weapons are in a different place, scoops start at a different time, and some features that were unfinished or barebones in DR2 were fleshed out in OTR but it's mostly the same thing. You can consider Off The Record to be a brand new game despite 95% of it being identical to DR2, simply with what the game does with both existing and new content.

Speaking of which, I'm done with DR3 and moved on to OTR. I only have a handful of achievements left, namely ones like getting 8 people in a clown car, taking Denyce and keeping her around until SGT battle on Day 3, getting all the gold medals in Sandbox Mode and the like. Now I've played a lot of DR2 during spring/summer but lately it's been mostly DR3 for me, and I'm surprised how easily I've been able to get back into the grind of things. Only thing I am truly missing from DR3 so far is the smooth framerate and the speed at which I was killing zombies, the 30FPS or lower the Xbox is pulling and the overall slower pace of things has me planning out my routes more and avoiding zombies if possible, rather than fighting them. In contrast, I would go out of my way to destroy entire hordes of zombies in DR3 purely out of spectacle and how fun fighting them was.
I do enjoy having time pressure again and Psychopaths being hard like in the previous titles, those were about the two only drawbacks DR3 had as I've said before. Funnily enough, with the little changes in the story, I think DR2 now suits Frank more than it does Chuck. You can easily ignore DR2 and DR3 and just play this one, if you don't like those for some reason, and still get a satisfying conclusion. The only part of the story I don't like is when it forces you to earn money, that can be an easy softlock unless the player is prepared beforehand(or you can just play the sandbox mode, which kind of defeats the purpose).

I'm wondering what I am going to do when I 100%* all the DR games. Replaying them will be kind redundant, I sure as hell won't be playing DRDR or DR4, so what else is there? I guess I will figure something out, I know Frank had a lot of crossovers so maybe I will see if any of those games catch my fancy.
