I’ll wait until a kiwi can review this cause I typically like open world games(bg3/divinity) but boy do I have a feeling this is going to be like ff7 rebirth where you get 70 hours in and are like why the fuck can’t you just end already

I will post it this weekend and report back to the thread. Mine was free so I should be as neutral as possible

Over 200,000 within the first hour of launch on Steam. I’m about to dive in and will give my initial take before I go to sleep.

I tried it, but after 30m I just got annoyed and refunded it.

It's like Fable 3 if the developers had endless money and no deadline but were still a little retarded.

So I'm going to see a lot of "Where's the yellow paint?" from the usual journo types, huh?
I think Luke Stephens isn't bad
Luke Stephen’s review was pretty long and I liked basically everything I saw and heard.
Brothers, I don’t understand why you all trust someone like Luke Stephen. He is a shill that praise almost every new game, and his reviews are story synopsis slop like Mauler's.

Bottom line: I don’t put much trust in JewTubers reviewing a game before release. Even when there’s no review embargo or restrictions, many of them end up biased because they want early access privileges and want to stay on good terms with publishers.

From what I’ve seen so far, this game looks like another open‑world slops. Even the best open‑world games tend to feel overrated to me, so I doubt this one will be the next big masterpiece. Still, I’ll keep an eye on it, because there is something about it that interests me.

The silly bongoloid man has weighed in.

Also the opinion of Steam's best curator.

Personally I do not plan on buying this game, it looks like a very wide but shallow experience and I'm sick of that format.

I have nothing interesting to play at the moment and more money than reason. Their fuckup saved me 70€ gg.
You could use some of those savings to support KiwiFarms.

i mean it was kind o' predictable they'd reuse shit from BD if you know it.
still, hopefully they will remove shitnuvo, there was zero reason for that.

Ahh yes, the Fleek method
It's never steered me wrong, and Fleek's pretty based too. I don't play multiplayer shit at all and tend not to enjoy FPSes much in general anymore (lol I'm old) but I usually find myself in agreement with his verdicts on things.

Eh, I follow them too, and they're very good for highlighting Denuvo and other shitty DRM schemes (and EOS) but once they decide to hit a game with "Not Recommended" they tend to go a bit too far finding other reasons to complain about the game. So that summary (especially re: combat and AI, which can both be fixed) might be a stretch and might not true forever even if it isn't.

Still, Denovo's a dealbreaker for me anyway, so I still follow these guys. "Owned by China" is another good one to follow.

I don't always agree with the takes but I appreciate the principled consistency.

Most recent example of a bad take from them is on My Winter Car:

The AI Gen Content they're complaining about is like a couple songs on the radio and one of the in-game TV shows. A real nothingburger of a complaint.

Decided to try it out and play just under 2 hours for steam refund. My main issue is the controls feel clunky. This is a serious problem when you have platforming and climbing segments. It makes traversal and exploration more annoying which is a problem as the main draw for this game IMO is the exploration. The weird aim with LB and hit a button to jump/talk/swing axe was also clunky feeling.

I ended up refunding it after 1 hour and 50 minutes. Maybe in a couple years they will get these issues sorted out and I can buy it on a good discount sale.

I’m seconds in and the noticeable delay between when you press the stick to move forward and when you finally move forward is annoying as all hell

In retrospect, it took me a while to realize that Dragon Dogma 2 is meh, but this game made me realize it in 1h.
I can't believe this game made be better appreciate DD2. Didn't knew we had it so good.
The future is bleak and I fucking hate the gooks.

I had assumed that there was a set protagonist instead of character creation because it was going to be narrative focused but it's a map marker clearing MMO lite slop game.

If there's no plot and the MC barely talks why not at least let me spice it up by playing as a stacked anime waifu, or Shrek, or Jeffrey Epstein?

controls being clunky is pretty on par with black desert, lol.

I'm mixed on it right now. Story obviously sucks, and controls doesn't feel good to me.

-First example, if you are holding down the run/sprint button you can't jump at the same time unless you let go of it. To me this feels a little clunky and I don't see why I have to let go of a sprint button to jump cause it just adds more needless button pressing.
-Second example, it reminds me of red dead 2 where you need to face something correctly and not move a single inch so you can interact or pick something up. Little annoying when gathering something small like a insect or flowers and need to position like a fucking nasa astronaut to make sure you dock right.
-Third example, movement does feel a little floaty and tanky, you got to position the body in right direction to make a jump in that direction and it is easy to bump into things or people. Again like red dead 2.

Some things I do like:

- I do kind of like the combat at the moment, mainly for some skills and weapon I had. I liked using the spear and this one skill where I can charge and stab a few enemies together.
- I personally do like how if you're fighting a group, there's times where more than one will attack you. Not like the Batman games where they crowd you and only attack you one at a time. I personally like this cause it feels more real to me than everyone mosh pitting around you waiting for their turn to throw a hit at you.
-It runs fine for me at 1440p cinematic so far with no upscaling. I've only noticed slow down when ton of fire effects was around me or when entering a building every now and then. I did notice it was blurry for my at start but I turned off depth of field and looked crisp again. I'm playing with a RTX 3080. I7, and 16gb of ram.
- The game does have a neat amount of mechanics or quirks I kind of liked. Such as how you can put gold or silver into a bank and invest them like a 401k to make passive income. You can collect wild animals and sell them to animal herders. You can steal certain items from places, not at level of a elder scrolls game but can find things to take. you can literally sling shot yourself with trees once you get the magic arm grapple ability.

Like I said at the start I am rather mix with more so my negatives being the controls and story. I do think the game can be enjoyed by a bigger audience with future patches, cause I don't see why they wouldn't be able to improve controls post launch. I really do think they missed the mark with making you have to use a premade character for this game. To be honest they should've allowed a character creator and their story for most part wouldn't have needed to be changed as far as I know. Like the game does have customization in it for your characters such as dying armor, but would've been more cool to make my own character. I also apologize how scatter or jumble my writing is right now, think it's better to put my thoughts out now with how I feel about it. I'm gonna continue playing it though to see if it grows better with the more content I unlock.

So just got done playing 4 hours. Intro is quite long introducing all the systems and controls. Im playing with a controller, which I very rarely do, but I feel like I am just starting now to figure out the scheme, definitely something you just have to brute force a bit before your body commits stuff to muscle memory. I am playing on high end hard ware with ray regeneration on, but I did see what the visuals looked like without it on and its definitely quite compromised, so Pearl Abyss can technically not lie about performance, but without using a legit denoiser, the game looks pretty bad imo and using ray reconstruction does effect your FPS quite significantly. I am looking forward to playing more and upgrading the skills and exploring the world though. Story is pretty generic so far and Kliff as protag is just the basic "tough guy who doesn't speak much" archetype.

One of my biggest gripes is not being able to remap controller controls, and also seemingly doesn't support elite style controllers with paddles on the back for extra inputs, that would really help this game feel better control wise.

Where did you find the ray regen option? Is that a upscale only thing?
