So whats the consensus so far? Is it a rug pull like the day before or are we on the cusp of GOTY?

consensus so far?
Here is my personal consensus.
The fact they made their own engine and everyone is saying it looks great has me excited.
I'm also hearing the story isn't that great so far, the controls are clunky, and some features aren't really that well explained in the game.
I think a lot of it is from an MMO company trying to make a single player game. MMO's are way different. You're expected to have a friend that had friends to teach them how to do this shit. Not to mention trying to port a keyboard all to controller (and most people were playing on controller like I like to).
I have high hopes for them, and applaud their effort but I think it may just end up becoming a cult classic. I think some of the clunky controls and MMO perspective is going to kill the game to some of the single player audience (plus the weird ass controls and unnecessary menus I'm seeing); but I think to some it will be worth playing 20 years from now because of the innovation seen in this.

this game is gonna be ass just like dragons dogma 2 and blackmyth wukong
I think it'll be wonky considering it comes from an mmo company but I don't think it'll be "ass".
Like I said, I think it will be a game that to a handful of people is a must play and to others "meh".
> EVERYONE says it looks great (and I'd hope so considering they built their own game engine)
> Everyone says it works wonky (controls aren't great on controller and weird unnecessary menus)
> everyone says the combat and mechanics are fun and unique.

I think it will become a cult classic for those that played and really enjoyed it; but I think that the clumsiness and the obscurity of the in game windows and overall direction will alienate and turn off a lot of the more casual and console players.
I think a lot of people (casual and not) are going to be going to youtube for help because an mmo company did a single player rpg.

Apparently, the devs announced that the game will have Denuvo, one week before release and after they posted the hardware specs.

Seems kinda scummy, because that means the specs are in doubt, and so are the many testimonies related to performance. And if doubt is cast on this, then what else can't we trust them with?

Good thing I learned my lesson to never pre-order or trust chinkoid devs.

Were people really expecting this giant open world game with a ton of hype to not have some form of DRM?

I don't even blame the dev, Denuvo works (to at least delay people from cracking it for a week or so for the majority of sales).

I think people are more miffed that all the bench mark test where done without Denuvo with high praise. Now we gotta see what kind of hit Denuvo produces after all the good will hype that the game is not a Unreal 5 shuttering slop fest.

I was going to get it before the denuvo announcement, since I have nothing interesting to play at the moment and more money than reason. Their fuckup saved me 70€ gg.

Annnnd it's dead to me. Was going to pirate it to see if it would be good, in which I would then buy it if it was, but even if I bought it I can see it being borderline unplayable due to Denuvo. Even outside of performance issues, you own the game even less than before, the game may seem offline but I'm pretty sure Denuvo needs you to be online sometimes in order to check if you own the game or else lol rip your game, and then if something happens to their servers or domain lol rip your game again. Your CPU change their cores at all? Lol rip your game. Windows updated? Lol rip your game. Probably even more examples I don't know of that show how volatile Denuvo is.
Sacrificing long term sales and risking increased refunds for a check from Denuvo is Epic Store level retardation. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Devs also confirmed a day 1 patch and no cross saves ever if you care about that. Yet another reason I stick to old games and actually good and unique indie games (Songs of Syx, Songs of Conquest (lol) Dominions, CoE to name recent ones).

I thought Pearl Abyss claimed their recent footage and Digital Foundry said that their testing were both done with Denuvo running

Haven't seen much talk, and maybe this is common and i'm out of the loop, but the physical discs will not let you start the game until you download a patch.

Something feels artificial about the hype around this game. It's getting way too many passes pulling stuff other games would get crucified for. The clear verbage of "no microtransactions AT LAUNCH" is clear they're planning to patch them in, the physical disc being a coaster without internet access, and weasling around showing any console footage for base PS5/Xbox days before the game comes out with the excuse "even if we show it you won't believe us." f it were called "Assassin's Creed Steampunk" or something it would catch more shit imo.
