The 'death' of the group was mostly centered around a really unpopular change. It changed the cooldown for complete color changes from a month to a full year. It's gone over in length in the google doc, so I'm not gonna repeat what transpired over DA.
On discord, however, people wanted to open a discussion about it and were civil about it. Kept it to a single channel and were very calm at first. But Nestly-and by extension the mods- didn't want to hear, see, or even smell of any discontent in the server. So anyone who participated, or even reacted with emojis got warned or muted.

After that, an ex mod went into the memes channel and started calling out Nestly and spammed dumb shit, people joined and it led to what began to be known as the "Ban Wave of 2021"

There is certainly more I can go into about the group, but it is more petty and less relevant. The farewell by extension is interesting enough since it has the afterthoughts of several influential users, but is inconsequential overall.

They look like pretty much the same thing, seems about right. I wonder how long this chain of burnt ARPG players making new ARPGs that're basically the same thing as their predecessors will last- in thirty-ish years, will every ARPG just be the same 5 species under a different name over and over again?

As a would-be artist/worldbuilder, taking a peek into this weird, neurotic little microcosm is a mixture of fascinating, funny and disconcerting. Partly because, knowing if I put out a piece of media with the critters I've worked on, some speds are going to start making OCs and bickering at/grooming each other over them. On one hand it could be both a good source of money and entertainment, but on the other I'll have blood on my hands, in a sense—not to mention the possibility of these invalids slavering for my attention, if not worse.

We live in a very silly world, sillier than the ones we imagine.

if it takes more than a hamsters worth of intellect to get it, youll effectively gatekeep these people

this only works if the cool and complex parts are things like history minutiae (not aspects of their current society- I mean stuff like obscure individuals, religion, culturally-relevant clothing/idioms, etc), details about geography, specifics on species function that make biological sense and rarely (if ever) involve sex, or inventions
furries are only interested in the bare minimums of history, biology relating to sex/reproduction, and/or nothing more than a kingdom's name, flag, and prescribed personality
they will write pages upon PAGES about that shit, but anything deeper makes them tune out

but does anyone actually have examples of that happening? two artists getting into a fight because their CS's were too much alike?

I think there were some examples posted here a while back. I can't think of any off the top of my head because I forcefully removed myself from this sphere years ago. There are probably dozens, though...
 
mightve said it before, but some of these people are great artists, theyre just confused about what kinda art theyre making, and i think thats common with internet artists with no proper training, they can draw, and they think that fullfills every other artistic role- animator, character designer, every type of artists requires a different skillset and they all require an understanding of what kinda art theyre making, how its gonna be utilized, and how to best achieve their desired results

with how overly desired, cluttered, and i'll admit even downright impressively drawn at times these things are, the artist making them would get so much more mileage out of their work if they got into illustration and sold painting, posters or maybe tshirt designs
stuff like say, this:

would be more fitting and sell way better as a singular, content illustration wherein you can put all your love and effort into every part of the image and people can really appreciate every little detail and its framing, rather than as a character design thats meant to be used, drawn and redrawn and given life

well, they've always been sold this field as "art", not any of its subsets
most of these artists just drew for fun in their own free time and learned from other people who did the same, not actual professionals with experience in the field
it's why there are only like 20 art styles on the internet in total, and it's why so so many artists look so similar to each other in style (furries especially)
so they just think drawing well = doing art well

I know there have been some showdowns between DAD factions at cons - to be honest that's probably the only group big enough to have gang fights.
