OH, duh. I forgot DADs are even closed species for a second, my bad.
They're probably just hardcore because they've been around for a long time and are still a closed species. I don't think they're anymore hardcore than similar species like the Protogen/Primagen retards.
 
Dutch Angel Dragons, in spite of the stupid rulings on what does make a Dutch Angel Dragons, is very surprisingly an Open Species, which explains things like how there's the Autism Dutch Angel Dragon in spite of it being legitimately offensive not only to my eyes and artists everywhere, but autistic people because of the puzzle piece design.

Protogen are in a similar space to Dutch Angel Dragons but even more egregious rulings on what makes a Protogen "canon". Do note that I mention a Protogen "canon", since the rules that only apply to if you have a "canon" Protogen or not but are ironically enough the reason why the "Illegal Protogen" meme was and is likely still a thing, though this makes me curious as to why Protogen specifically get this meme treatment when Dutch Angel Dragons are even more egregious with rules.

DADs are surprisingly one of the neater furry species, design wise - an alternative take on dragons which are already quite diverse in many different myths, and a pretty cool look as well
the lore is lame as hell, but that never seems to be their strong suit for whatever reason

as for the topic of canonity when it comes to these things, im guessing older early-internet communities understood how big the interwebz are, and just how far you can and cant police someone elses net activities, so they resolved to just saying "alright, have your shite OC, but hes not canon to us" and left it at that. cut it off at the gate instead of trying to reach the source
newer communities dont seem to get this, ironically the bigger the internet got the tamer it became and now everyone thinks they can strongarm people into doing what they want

I was not directly involved but apparently it was about to get into that territory. The thing to remember about the DAD fandom even back then is it was mid-teenagers, mostly. So literally high school clique action.

The older made up species just tended not to care as much. People got into the chakat scene or skiltaires because they were horny or just thought they were neat, nobody cared THAT much. Now it's all about the money. Literally.

I would assume it's because protogens have a stronger mass-appeal. More people know and care -> memes proliferate wider.

Anatomy & Design​


Boytoys/Manmaids are humanoid, and often are lacking any type of lower legs (with only thighs present). They have large, colorful bright eyes with a small glow to them, which are usually without pupils BUT some might have them!
All Boytoys and Manmaids have the ears and tails of an animal! It's their cute little theme that all have. You aren't limited to just one animal though! Hybrids are fine (like fox/bat, bunny/wolf, dragon/cat ... y'know, stuff like that)!
And of course as well, you aren't limited to just real animals either. If you wanna have a dragon, unicorn, or griffin Boytoy/Manmaid, well... go nuts!

Boytoys/Manmaids come in a various array of colors, patterns, and whatnot! They can come colored as almost anything, with essentially any theme/aesthetic! There's quite a lot of room for creativity with them!
They can wear just about anything! Most prefer very revealing and risque clothing styles, but many just appreciate being comfy, so your choices for their clothes are quite open.
Accessories are probably even more unlimited, as there’s very little that wouldn’t work with them. Just try slapping whatever onto your Boytoy and see what works!

we used to teach kids responsibility and economics, readying them for the future
i wonder if school currently even hold any conversations about the notion of a person's "future"
because if all kids are hearing is "the world is gonna eXPLODE everything SUCKS and its [Nikocado voice] YOUR FAULT!", it's no wonder theyre more drawn to fleeting obsessions and pointless, momentary consumption
