me: here's some drama from the closed species community (trying to be relatively unbiased as I say how people feel from both sides)
Room Temperature IQ: the fuck are you on?? this is so retarded i hate genshin fans and furries ughhhh
Like, Jesus fuck. Stop throwing a fit at the messenger. This is a catty gossip website. I posted catty gossip. If you have something substantive to post, feel free to move the thread along after negrating instead of quoting my post just to whine about it.
The amount of cope you're on is immeasurable. If you're gonna say that people are talking about how some adoptable is a ripoff of a Genshin character, post proof like screenshots of comments talking about it. It'll make you look less like a MATI retard.

Finally decided to update the OP a bit, giving the Mignyans their own folder (due to the sheer amount of drama they bring with them) and giving a shout-out to the sergal thread, in addition to fixing a few grammar hiccups.
New callout post on Toyhouse. It's not about closed species, just about adoptable autism in general, but it involves CloverCoin/Flipside/DankDook, aka the owner of Pillowings, mentioned here before for drawing feral porn and generally having a questionable Internet presences.
Because of the whole "not really a closed species thing but the owner of one is involved" I'm not sure if it's too off-topic or not, so I'll just spoil it. Typed the whole damn thing out and then realized Flipside wasn't as involved as I had originally thought, but I don't want my sperging to go to waste, so whatever. Let me know if there's a better place I should post this.
The whole doc is >80 pages of unorganized screencaps, but from what I understand, Toyhouse user Plume bought a design (not from the original creator, but from a third party) that came bundled with ~feral NSFW~ (i.e. it has a corkscrew dick in the reference). They did this knowingly, hoping they could just redesign it and.. get rid of the feral? I guess? But then people started blocking them for, you know. Having an OC with its weird animal cock out. So they decided they wanted to axe it and trade it off to someone else.
God, I hate these tiling watermarks so much.
This caught the attention of the original designer, who posted it in a Discord for feral adopts(?) in what appeared to be genuine hope to get it rehomed to someone who liked it. Between Plume's apparent aggression (conveniently, they hide a lot of their own involvement in this exchange) and the whole server riling themselves up about it, bitchfighting ensues that eventually leads to the original designer going "fuck you I'm voiding this design so I can copy/resell it".
You may be asking, "where the hell is Flipside involved"? Well. Apparently, Flipside wanted this character enough to offer to buy other people's characters (off of Plume's favorites list) to trade them for this thing. Apparently, this is a common practice, but it sure pissed Plume off for god knows what reason.
TL;DR Plume is suspiciously hesitant to get rid of this character they're supposedly uncomfortable with, an entire Discord of dogfuckers plots to harass them about it, Pillowings' creator gets a piece of the action too.
The meat of the callout isn't really interesting, but I think it's fucking hilarious to buy an adopt and then turn around and go "I'm uncomfortable with this, please don't think I support this icky nasty thing I bought!"
Here's the callout thread (archive)... and the accompanying Google Doc (archive (broken)). Additionally, the character in question's profile (archive). There appears to be a large amount of backlash in the thread itself, but I don't care to dig through it since it's mostly just people shitting on Plume anyways.

Nothing about this is shocking. Clovercoin is known through out the cs community to be a weirdo zoo/proshipper. They drew feral porn of some other furry who hated feral porn saying it was a request to try and get that person to look like a zoo.
Bit of a splurg, and a tad off topic from closed species, but this kind of transitions with characters as a whole.
(As well as the Oc reference sheet thread)
If these artists are creating character designs by the day, and often motifs or themes are reused with small tweaks here and there, it's difficult to understand why people still interact with these CS groups when they can draw their own version for free. (as discussed previously, it's easy to get away with when these CS are merely a food item and dog slapped together.) When observing actual IP and copyrighted characters and designs, there's something that sets them apart from other protected media. With these species, they really only vary in color and style, and it's a very fine line of distinction within and outside the groups as well. Grems for example, I've seen several lookalikes on Deviantart today and you really don't have to dig that far in species groups to look. It's not a Grem if you don't call it a Grem. As strange as that rule applies to a majority of these groups even if the creators and members realize it or not.
Individuation is so vague, that these species groups really only function to flash designs from popular artists or gush about how you brushed shoulders with them.
Fan characters is a whole other story. But lets say... An artist creates a a sonic oc. Said character interacts regularly in the universe. It's considered a fan character. But technically not illegal or infringing on the companies who own these properties unless the artist is profiting off of their fan characters. (Companies typically won't waste time or money with this unless they see fit. It's also free advertising for them)
But then, another artist comes along, enjoys the artist's fan character design and copies it. They make a new closed species based off of it, or a character built within an entirely new universe, separate from the copyrighted property. I see that kind of thing circulate, and the fan character artist gets upset and wants to sue the individual who ripped off their fan character. That's the confusing thing that delusional artists breed into the air thinking they have full ownership of their fan-made ocs based entirely on another property.
hey everyone, bit of a new kiwi here, knew about kiwifarms (and its predecessor cwcki forums) for years and read threads here for months but only decided to make an account today because this thread is personally interesting to me (i was in the closed species community for a few months before the aforementioned "unpersoning") and wanted to share some tid-bits
ive only skimmed this thread since its all the stuff i already know - overpriced, overdesigned and overpraised species/officials being sold for thousands, creator drama regarding scamming and "canonicity" etc, but im sure it hasnt been mentioned that the closed species community preys largely on people's bad spending habits. although it has been mentioned that the people who do buy this stuff indeed has impulse spending habits or some craving for status, i think it's also fair to mention that this habit is only cultivated by the money-hungry creators who know exactly what they're doing to these people
a pretty big example of this is this toyhou.se user that was in a whole lot of servers for this stuff and advertised leaving each and every one of them in their respective "sales" channels on their discord, and lo and behold, the high prices they bought them for and their decreasing "relevancy" makes the designs really hard to sell, hence the constant discounts. their borderline personality disorder also supposedly makes the impulse spending even worse, and its crazy to me how these creators would make excuses for being late on responding to member concerns or suggestions but always be able to churn out 30 gacha adopts in a punctual manner. just amazing

Any closed species characters in any of these folders belong to me and me only.
If I have any of your "dreamies" in here, sorry, but they are here forever.
Do not ask me about them. They are my ocs. Please leave me alone.
i still dont get what a dreamie is
its a character that you want? but how can you have wanted it before you knew it existed, since this isnt a brand with a collection of products, its a whole community
or is it a concept that you want? like "my dreamie is uhhh a blue character with angel wings" in which case cant you find someone else that has them?
i dont understand

From what I’ve seen Dreamies are existing characters that someone likes but doesn’t own the rights to.
So say a popular artist posts a design and person A really likes it but person B buys it. Person A wants to own it in the future so they consider it a dream design and might try to trade for it or buy it in the future if Person B decides to get rid of it.
this specific user has relapsed into dainty stuff multiple times despite that, and it's really unfortunate. given how strong and encouraged spending literal thousands are on a design, creators within closed species/adopt circles never appear to warn people about bad spending habits or direct people to help websites if they're struggling with it
i mean lets be honest we all know why they wouldn't do that... (money)
there are relatively new species that try to catch the lightning in a bottle like dainty or chimereon thinking they can bleed people dry with money earn quick cash, but are obviously failing because their members are turning on them literally a few months after they're born (such is the likes of coelunes and dreadnauts, the latter likes to pride itself on "body horror" but i'm pretty sure they don't even know what body horror is) calling them irresponsible and lazy
Easy profit, just clean em up and sell them for a couple hundred on DA and Twitter. Like refurbishing but for financially irresponsible furries and weebs.
