Culture 'Carmen' gets a new ending. - Operas about psychotic obsession totally promote violence against women dudes!

So the classic opera 'Carmen' is getting a new tour, and with it the ending is getting revamped.

As I'm sure you all know (lol) at the end of Carmen, Don Jose, who's lustfully obsessed with the titular character, originally stabs Carmen to death after being spurned for a bullfighter. In the 'new and improved' ending, Carmen ends up totally pulling a fucking revolver and blasting Don Jose.

You know there is already a very famous opera where the heroine kills her would-be rapist? Tosca! Maybe instead of committing suicide, Tosca is so shocked by the event and, left with nothing to lose, that she becomes a radical feminist? (which is not much different from suicide if you think about it).

Next, when Oedipus Rex finds out he murdered his father and married his mother, he decides it's okay because quit kink shaming, mom! Then he decides he's a troon and rips off his balls instead of his eyes.

Meh, this has been done (except the troon part). Steven Berkoff's play Greek is a fuck-you to Sophocles by way of Thatcher-era British politics. It has been adapted as an opera by Mark-Anthony Turnage. Get a recording of that opera if you can. It's a fucking riot and I love it!

What infuriates me is these twats cannot be original. They cannot create an original piece of art, be it a movie, a video game, a TV Show, or a fucking OPERA and say that it reflects them and their value. No. They have to take an existing artifact of the culture and pervert it to fit their worldview. King Arthur as a black man? Lets do it! Fuck the whole need for the English people need a mythological origin story. Captain America as a Nazi? Hell yeah! Fuck whitey. Never mind the fact that Captain America is supposed to be the physical personification of OPPOSITION to Nazism. Carmen where the woman wins in the end? Yeah, Fuck men! Never mind the fact that its supposed to be a story about how acting like a whore will lead to a bad end.

They need to take an existing successful artifact, and twist it beyond all recognition. I honestly believe they are totally incapable of creating their own artistry because the concept of art and inherent morality/beauty that is necessary to make something good art is completely beyond their ability to comprehend. Let alone produce.

You think that, especially since Carmen is authored as a Comedy, and not a Tragedy. Let that thought sink in. In classical literature, Comedy's reflect the good, and tragedies reflect the bad. The fact the Carmen gets shot at the end is considered a good thing in the play. Its "the punch line" as we understand it in modernity. The moment when this shameless woman who has gotten away with everything by acting like a vapid whore is finally given her justly earned punishment. At which point the audience is supposed to laugh, cheer, applause etc.

The idea of Carmen shooting first is a total perversion. It turns the Comedy into a Tragedy. The villainous prevails. Sauron gets the one ring back and destroys Gondor. The Empire destroys the rebel fleet at Endor and all the Ewoks die. Its a total inversion of the entire story, perverting it into the exact opposite of what it is.

A bit off-topic but I think Carmen being branded as a comedy has more to do with the opera politics in 19th century Paris. At that time there were two big opera houses in Paris, the Paris Opéra for expensive, extravagant fare like Meyerbeer and and the Opéra-Comique (where Carmen was premiered) are for up-and-coming composers and for lighter fare.

And isn't it funny that this Italian producer chose to muck with a French opera, instead of a Verdi or Puccini? If the director is so concerned with women being murdered in Italy, why not make Gilda in Rigoletto kill the assassin Sparafucile, apprehend her father Rigoletto (literally condemning the patriarchy!), and live happily ever after with the Duke (who is no doubt a male feminist)?

A theory why Europe is home to Eurotrash productions is that there are a huge number of opera companies in Europe, many of them small, and they all receive substantial government subsidies so box office is less of a concern. Instead, their eyes are over that sweet sweet cultural endowment pie, and the longer you can keep "intellectuals" talking about you, the bigger slice you're likely to get. It does not matter if this production is unpopular with the audience; the point is to stay "relevant" and bullshit your way through the funding committee.

You have to understand the nature of SJWisim. It isn't that they can't (well, they can't. All the shit they make never sells, the political message is so overbearing its laughable, and its surface level garbage) but the whole ideology relies on someone else doing something for you. Its a classical appeal to authority. There was this great article awhile back breaking down extreme progressiveness as unusual leftism because it isn't activist, its appealing to authority to change things they want for them, not to change them themselves.
