So the classic opera 'Carmen' is getting a new tour, and with it the ending is getting revamped.

As I'm sure you all know (lol) at the end of Carmen, Don Jose, who's lustfully obsessed with the titular character, originally stabs Carmen to death after being spurned for a bullfighter. In the 'new and improved' ending, Carmen ends up totally pulling a fucking revolver and blasting Don Jose.

I don't know shit about opera, but if this is anything like what happened with Marvel, there's nothing to worry about. Tons of people may love it, though we all know that this kind of audience isn't the kind that pays for things. Then everyone will realize that this is a losing battle and everything will go back to the way it was.

(or it will in tragedy, like an opera would)
How long is it gonna take though for most companies to realize that marketing to audiences like these are usually corporate suicide since they refuse to pay for anything?

Hahahahaha

What in the ever loving fuck are they thinking? Are they exceptional?

Should I fucking change the ending of Othello so he gets one over on the classic evil white guy Iago? (Othello is my favorite Shakespeare, I love it).

All theater gets revamped. They put Hamlet into a corporate environment and made Othello into a High School. You can do these things. Alter settings, adjust costumes. Different music. One Shakespeare small play was even set during the Bosnian war. I mean, the only limit is your imagination.

HOWEVER

You. Don't. Change. The. Story. EVER. Those are the fucking iron-clad rules of theater for the past 500 years. You know what happens when you don't play by the rules? Your play bombs. Your opera is laughed out of the theater. This faggot is going to burn his production to the ground and I will be glad to see when it fails. It'll be relegated to other cultural misfires that tried to change classic art. Fucking censorious cunts.

They aren't. They are lying through their teeth. They can't even buy a comic or a video game online, you think they are going to get off the computer and go to an opera house and read a libretto? My fucking ass. I bet they don't even know what a libretto is.

You know who goes to these? Theater/Opera (I only occasionally like an opera. Its an acquired taste) fags like me. You know why they go? Because the stories don't change, the lens that they are viewed through changes. I guarantee people are going to go into this expecting Carmen and then going 'wtf is this shit'. Carmen dies because freedom has a heavy cost. It asks the audience 'are you willing to pay for that freedom with your life'? Its a tragedy because that's the price some people HAVE to pay. Yes, Carmen dies. But the point is she dies free and true to herself and sometimes that bears a heavy price. Now, what's the point? What's the message? You turned it into a fucking Marvel comic. GRRRRLLL POWER, YAS KWEEN, SLAY.

Actually, I take it back. That's a perfect message for the modern age. You don't have to sacrifice anything for what you want. Freedom is completely free. Your choices are free from consequence. There is no pain, no sacrifice. Its all so easy. Don't think. Go to sleep. Everything will be fine. You don't have to do anything. Sleep. Don't think. Sleep.

I'm tired of safe, cuck faggot art. Art is supposed to have an edge you dumb cunt. AND HOW THE FUCK IS A TRAGIC OPERA SUPPOSED TO WORK WITHOUT A TRAGEDY YOU FUCK. EXPLAIN THAT ONE TO ME IN ALL YOUR FUCKING BRILLIANCE. YOUR ART IS SHIT.

Sorry. I'm just really fucking pissed at this. It's like the Victorians stapling a fig leaf over David's cock. I hope it fucking bombs, I swear. But I know the fucking elites who will pay for this cultural abortion will eat this up, pat themselves on the back for being so progressive and go back to their expensive houses and apartments far away from the icky plebs. I hope you all buy raw water and die, you stupid rich cunts.
It is truly a shame when they ruin art.

See, you've made a horrible assumption here. Art was supposed to have an edge. Now it's less about that and more about giving a way for entitled rich cunts to express to the world how awesome they are.

Which destroys the very meaning of what ART was supposed to be.

i never even heard of this thing and they ruin the ending for me anyway

then again, i clicked on the thread titled Carmen' gets a new ending so
That's the thing to consider though, isn't it literally going to be the exact same story except for the different ending?

I don't do opera, but yeah: Someone in Italy must have been drinking too much raw water to think changing the ending like this was a good idea, honestly. Then again, hopefully this will just come-and-go unnoticed and forgotten, seeing as most neo-hippies (SJWs) don't have money, anyway. Still sad to see happen, regardless - after all, sometimes - women and minorities die; it's not meant to be sexist/racist/whatever (and I do agree it's sad such things exist, but this isn't the way to challenge them, either!), that's just life for ya.

This is Eurotrash; everything is "subversive". There is also a production of Madama Butterfly in which Butterfly choose to kill her child, instead of ceding him to Pinkerton's American wife Kate as in the original.

And isn't it funny that this Italian producer chose to muck with a French opera, instead of a Verdi or Puccini? If the director is so concerned with women being murdered in Italy, why not make Gilda in Rigoletto kill the assassin Sparafucile, apprehend her father Rigoletto (literally condemning the patriarchy!), and live happily ever after with the Duke (who is no doubt a male feminist)?

People in the 21st Century are shocked, SHOCKED that operas don't have happy endings?
I'm more shocked that people aren't familiar with Eurotrash already.

A theory why Europe is home to Eurotrash productions is that there are a huge number of opera companies in Europe, many of them small, and they all receive substantial government subsidies so box office is less of a concern. Instead, their eyes are over that sweet sweet cultural endowment pie, and the longer you can keep "intellectuals" talking about you, the bigger slice you're likely to get. It does not matter if this production is unpopular with the audience; the point is to stay "relevant" and bullshit your way through the funding committee.

Somehow I doubt people that enjoy Opera are going to, after seeing this mutilation, are going to think to themselves: "Hmm, that really moved me, I think I'll not rape a woman tonight".

Can these fucks not grasp what a Tragedy means?! HOW THE EVER LOVING FUCK IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL TRAGIC PLAYS SUPPOSED TO WORK IF THERE IS NO TRAGIC ENDING!?!?!

This goddamned shit #metoo pandering the Cultural Marxists are forcing on the Cultural Treasures of the West is just too rage inducing for words.

When they cater to people who claim they want to see stuff like this oddly enough they don't bother supporting it. And when the real fans complain enough everything has to go back to normal because the cash wasn't rolling in.

You'll see SJWs on social media who have never heard of Carmen applauding this. But will they buy a ticket? Hell no. They'll expect everyone else to then REEEEE when it doesn't get enough support to keep the train rolling. It's proof that they want everything to change to fit their ideology even if they have no interest in what that thing is. It's like an infection. Too bad the cure is as simple as not making enough money off of virtue signalling.

These Jenga people believe every work of fiction ever conceived, nay, every idea ever had, should be reconstituted into Scotch tape and then wrapped around them to keep them from falling apart.

I’d get behind this if they worked time travel into the reason her fate was changed.

Wait until they see my new and improved ending where Don Jose converts to Islam and pelts Carmen with rocks for being a filthy temptress...

Has there been any sort of backlash for this, I wonder if they'll lose out on sales for this. I'm surprised the genius writers couldn't just write a whole new original play just as good as Carmen but more strong and progressive.

Sounds like a great idea.
How about we go one step further and change hamlet so instead of everyone dying, they all have a big gay tea party.
Or piggy dying in Lord of the flies? Fuck that, he just goes to new York instead.

Its a porformance, it's supposed to be grim and upsetting, that's why tragedy was a word invented (or at least associated) with describing them. Changing the end of the story fucks up everything that came before it and if you lose the message that the story was building up to, then what the hell are you telling the story for.

This'll go the way of every other bowdlerized classic: it'll go on, and then get superceded by the hundreds of regular Carmens that'll carry on.

Besides, in opera, to say the actual words aren't important is an understatement; wordsmithing is a thoroughly thankless job. If this changes the music, however, then there'll be uproar.
