I saw it, and it was so bleeding boring. I kept waiting for something to happen, and whenever something finally did, I felt like I'd seen it before, or it was all dark and bland, or there was no reason to care about anything happening. I don't even feel like making fun of it. It's pretty bad when it doesn't even inspire me to rip it apart. I gotta go drink some coffee or something or else I'm going to fall asleep.

54k User reviews deleted from RT, it barely affected the rating. Pick the commentator that least annoys you:

Ok there is a pretty interesting take from Doug TeNaple (creator of Earthworm Jim, Catscratch, and Neverhood).

Lol he ended up shaving his head.
He lost a bet and had to paint his hair neon pink. He then lost another bet and had to paint his beard blue, he later shaved it off.

Downey and Evans are almost assured to be dipping out in a major way, but I don't think Hemsworth's made any such statements. Especially since he seemed to really enjoy the reinvigorated approach to Thor that he and Watiti came up with and seems like he'd be willing to do more. Also Holland's still pretty fresh-faced and his film appearances have received nothing from praise.

Why would they center a post-End Game era of the MCU around Larson's portrayal of Danvers when they've clearly struck gold with Hemsworth's Thor and Holland's Spider-Man?
I do hope Downey at least does some cameos in Spider-Man. I like his and Peter’s relationship.

Don't they outright own all the X-Men now?

Yeah, they do. I'm guessing Feige's decision to push Carol as the face of the new MCU came before the deal was finalized or they decided the next phase will tease at/build up the F4 and X-Men properties rather than give them any real focus.

Or maybe they'll going to use those properties for TV series since with the upcoming Disney streaming service they've shown that they're interested in doing TV stuff that's genuinely connected to the movies instead of just kinda sorta maybe in the same universe like the Netflix shows and Agents of Shield.

I was there for that first wave and I refer back to my powerlevel remarks. That first wave they purged made it very clear it was "culture warriors" fucking with the ratings. This latest round is doing a much better job of making it look like "disillusioned fans" rising up, which is what they should have known to do the first go-round.

So RT seems to have removed 54,000 user reviews.

... And the user rating is still in the 30-percentile range.

Hey, Rotten Tomatoes:

So, I knew that there was no chance that this movie would be a wild success. But I didn't know how bad it was until I was listening to the talking heads on NPR call it mediocre, and brush past talking about why the movie was meh so they could talk about how the evil misogynists on the internet were giving it shitty reviews before they watched it.

I wasn't planning on watching this because I don't feel compelled to watch every movie in the MCU like so many folks do, but this is really sounding like a real stinker and I feel bad for anyone suckered by the marketing.

As @KillThemCrackasBabies said, normies don't give a fuck about the culture wars (and neither do the Chinese.) All they know is that this is another Marvel film and will go to it based on the franchise's record alone.

Anyway, I thought I would share this screen cap. It's from the alternatehistory.com forums (an SJW hive if there ever was one) and thought this was utterly hilarious.

Wow, if you went to see it to spite some misogynists, I don't now what to tell you.

"Misogynists were protesting and I flipped them off. The entire theater clapped, Obama was there"

TBH the main reasons it might do poorly in China are that Brie Larson isn't that hot and it features a non-Will Smith black person in the secondary role.

Rotten Tomatoes Blames Glitch for 'Captain Marvel' Review Controversy

In addition to becoming a tremendous financial success, it's possible that Captain Marvel can add another accomplishment to its name, which would be rendering audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes completely useless. The film has seen the site undergo various updates to its format, with the site noting that a glitch in the system resulted in thousands of negative reviews being attributed to the movie baselessly.

Within hours of the film officially landing in theaters, Captain Marvel amassed tens of thousands of "reviews" from users, most of which were negative, resulting in a user review score of 35 percent positive rating. Rotten Tomatoes offered a statement admitting that an error in the functionality on the site resulted in comments posted before the film hitting theaters getting added to the user review score.

"We launched some changes to the movie pre-release functionality last week, which included not allowing users to leave a comment or review prior to a movie’s release in theatres. However, we still invite users to vote if they 'want to see' a movie prior to its release, and that vote total is displayed on the site," the statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter read.

However, we still invite users to vote if they 'want to see' a movie prior to its release, and that vote total is displayed on the site," the statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter read.
Including the comments and "reviews" posted before the film hit theaters, it earned more than 50,000 comments. For reference, Avengers: Infinity War currently has 53,000 ratings after opening nearly a year ago. Prior to the release of Captain Marvel, it became one of the lowest rated entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with visitors noting that many of the comments included sexist remarks. When Rotten Tomatoes noticed this trend and the obvious trolling on the movie's site, they removed the functionality of leaving comments before a film was out.

"We have identified a bug in the post-release functionality for the movies that have released into theaters since our product update last week," their statement continued. "The quantity of user ratings (which is displayed directly below the audience score and is intended to only include the quantity of users who have left a rating or written review after a movie’s release) had included both pre-release and post-release fan voting."
Currently, the film is listed as having 7,000 reviews, yet many pages of reviews date all the way back to December of 2018.

Just came back from Captain Marvel. Unfortunately I had to run to the bathroom to puke my guts off at the scene when they were listening to the black box but I was able to finish the movie. sigh

I feel like the story would’ve worked better with Shayera Hol’s Hawkgirl instead of Captain Marvel. A lot of the characters in the Star Force seemed too similar to the DCAU Hawkworld we saw in JL/JLU.

If you want to know what I mean, Yon Rogg was very similar to Hro Talak that I thought he was going to be a surprise love interest that causes Carol to betray Fury and the rest of her team. Thankfully they didn’t go with that route but I didn’t really gravitate towards him as the villain.

Minn-Erva’s character was too similar to Paran Dul to me down to her no-nonsense and even sadistic personality. I’m shocked she didn’t start screaming that they had to take Carol back to Hala because she was such a traitor to the Kree. At least they reverse the power play to show the Kree were the real perpetrators.

Either it’s a total fucking coincidence or the writers watched a little too much JLU. It was really uncanny because it sounded a lot like a Hawkgirl focused plot that Timm and Dini threw away and Disney just happened to find looking in the trash.

The movie was okay, but the third act really failed to hype me up. While it was definitely better written than Aquaman, at least that movie actually hyped me the fuck up. Sadly my friends are in the “she’s gonna totally kick Thanos’s ass!” mindset. I hope the Russoes are able to write her properly. 7/10.
