I'm an MCU fanboy, so I'll go and see this. I am a bit worried about the concept of making her the face of the MCU and the most powerful. I'm getting echoes of Rey from Star Wars, that attempt to clumsily create an awesome character and force everyone to like them. Iron Man became the face of the MCU because of RDJ's charisma. Personally, I think Black Widow would be an obvious choice to lead the Avengers, both from an in-universe perspective (she's badass, experienced, capable of strategising and worked with Rogers) and an out-of-universe perspective (ScarJo would probably be up for it, the character is popular and you get the woke points for putting a woman in charge).

My guess for Avengers 4 is that they'll kill Steve Rogers off, Thor will go off to be king of the surviving Asgardians and Pepper will reveal she's pregnant so Stark has to retire.
I know the first instance of it that I'm aware of is a Feige quote but I'm still confused why they keep saying that or who they hope to win over with "STRONGEST STRONG TO EVER STRONG".

Earlier in the thread I pointed out how it's not true in the comics so I could only assume people were taking Feige's word for it due to being unfamiliar with the source material or for woke points. Her powers aren't really that impressive outside her energy absorption. On the other hand, I'm really into those autistic "who would win in a fight" topics and I know people incorrectly labeling Carol "the strongest" is going to lead to some great memes.

Edit: My god, I'd love to deal with some autistic woke Carol fans who insist she's the strongest fictional character ever or some shit despite evidence to the contrary. Would be a fresh break from Goku fanboys who do the same with their favorite.

Literally the best possible way this film can end is with Rogue (preferably new actress/leading to a new continuity of X-Men) stealing her powers.

That obviously won't happen, but BY GAWD, I would literally cry the happiest tears if it did. In fact, I think I might actually scream in the theater.

Rogue is not only my favorite X-Man, but she's my favorite female superhero from Marvel. I adore her. I'm still waiting for her character to be done RIGHT on the big screen because that Anna Paquin bullshit that was sold to me was never my cup of tea.

I'm also rooting for Storm to be done justice and to be introduced in one of the Black Panther sequels.

She may be strong...but her brand awareness and comic sales are weak.

I mean, if they're going to have her be the "new face" of the Avengers, they better nail it in her standalone movie because so far, the trailer isn't making me very optimistic. Being the strongest strong to ever strong isn't going to cut it, because it can't be a muscle contest at this point. People have been following the MCU for ten years now and you can't just have the shiny new newbie become the leader because "ZOMG SHE'S SO STRONG".

And it's not even because she's a woman and that I'm a horrible sexist who hates women in positions of power. If you look at the DCEU, if they decided that Wonder Woman was going to be the leader of the Justice League, I don't think most people would have complained since she's pretty much universally liked (to the point some will even say she's the only good thing about the DCEU). I don't care much about Black Widow, but she's been there since pretty much the beginning of the MCU and she's more than earned her place as a potential leader. Heck, if you want to take a "newer" character, Black Panther would make more sense too since he's popular, he's a king, and he's got this amazing nobility and sense of justice about him that would make him a great leader as well for the Avengers. Either way, SJWs are happy because a woman/a black guy is leading.

Like, I don't know, maybe her movie will be a lot better than it looks and I'll be fine with her becoming the leader, who knows. I mean, she's a former officer and U.S. Air Force fighter pilot, so why not. But ultimately, the point is not that she's not competent enough, the point is that I just wish there could be more to her than "she's the leader because she's got the biggest muscles and the biggest superpowers". It's a disservice more than anything else, because Steve Rogers didn't become a leader because he was strong. He became a leader and Captain America because he represents what the American man has the best to offer.

Correct. It was full Minority Report where some psychic has visions of the future and she stands ready to condemn anyone who was either portrayed negatively in said visions or opposed her ideology.

Several dead and injured main characters later (Hulk, War Machine, and Iron Man to name a few) and the psychic she pinned all her plans for the future on fucks off to be a God, therefore making her entire plan in the arc utterly pointless. This gets her not only the ear of the President, but she is said to be, "T3h Most Popyoolar Gurrl In The World!!1"
Comic book line and numbers please.

Where do you usually go to do that?

Civil War 2, was the big event comic a while back.

The Outskirts Battledome was a favorite of mine back in the day but they've kinda slipped in quality, their wiki is notoriously inaccurate compared to the forums themselves. Most of these sites have "Respect Threads" giving you a rundown of a character's skills but the trick to finding the better sites is finding those with more emphasis on feats than hyperbolic statements/popularity contests.

Most of the popularity contest nonsense usually involves anime and vidya characters getting threads where their fans take them too personally or don't get outliers. Communities tend to buy into the gross overestimation of Dragon Ball characters who they believe can "casually wipe out universes" despite the main instance of that being inconsistent with the rest of that plot. Other mediums usually just get misread by people unfamiliar rather then clingy fans.

That reminds me, there was a dude named Lionel Suggs who used to frequent those kinds of threads but got extremely butthurt that his waifus aren't the strongest characters in fiction so he tried writing his own book series to make it so. Humorously, most of it is meaningless gibberish that can't be quantified so good job there. Don't know if he has enough presence to have a thread but he was kind of a meme.

This cunt is a HORRIBLE actress. Why are people surprised by her lack of emotion?

Heh, I liked her in Room (okay, that movie made me bawl my eyes out). But she's one of those actresses like Jennifer Lawrence and Alicia Vikander who get cast in everything and while they're decent, they're not exactly the best thing ever and they end up being pretty overhyped, even though the reason why they're doing so many Oscar-pandering movies is because they don't want to end up being typecast and finish their career in romcom hell like Julia Roberts, Katherine Heigl or Katie Holmes.

What makes all the difference is that Brie Larson and Jennifer Lawrence are pretty obnoxious, each in their own way. Brie looks all set to become as annoying as Meryl Streep if she isn't already. Alicia seems okay, though.

Okay, so I'm not up on comics but I just saw the trailer for a second time (it was in the interminable stream of bad-looking trailers in front of Halloween)...

How is this not basically Green Lantern? How is Captain Marvel not Hal Jordan with a vagene?

Personality wise, they're pretty similar characters. Power wise, not really outside both being generic strong flying guy who shoots beams, Green Lanterns have more abilities beyond that. Historically, she was mostly a love interest turned side character in the Avengers until recently getting pushed really hard to be the next big thing (alongside the other "next big things")

Any way you cut it, this version of Carol Danvers is not going to be a thing and they need to stop.

Comic book line and numbers please.

As others have stated, it's just the Civil War 2 line.

Funny thing is: this was around the time Captain America was salso a HYDRA-loving closet Nazi that everyone was meant to hate, and yet soon after Civil War 2 ended there was a part written by Nick Spencer where Captain Marvel and a friend were observing another kid's superpowers and were planning to recruit her. Cap gets angry at them and tells how they hadn't learnt anything from the ordeal, yet to any normal person Cap sounds like the good guy in that moment.

Not gonna lie, right after I watched the Captain Marvel trailer, I watched Shazam’s. That movie at least looks promising.

I think Carol’s a cool character, but my problem is that they’re trying to shove a character that was famous for giving another character her powers up to the same spotlight characters that have been relevant for 70 years just because “she’s a woman, hear her roar!” and even people screaming that she’s gonna be better than Wonder Woman because she’s gonna kick Thanos’s ass! While she’s definitely gonna get a boost in popularity from the movie (GOTG got the same treatment) she just doesn’t have the relevancy to compete or even overpower what’s been considered the superheroine for decades and who’s been an American cultural icon for almost 70 years. The only character I can think could come close is Black Widow, and even she needed years of development within the MCU and not just one movie.

Another complaint I’ve heard is that the movie looks as emotionless as Man of Steel did. Haven’t seen that movie but it really does look like a Snyder film.
