That said, holy shit people are ripping this movie to shreds. They go "Wooh, something for girls!", then turn around and rate it 3/5. They recognize how cheap of a shot it is at giving girls something to pursue, but that's all it is. Hermione in Harry Potter was an idol to many girls but she never did anything amazing, let alone took up the spotlight. The whole idea of finding a personal hero is just that, not being fed it in a movie with their name in bold letters.
i will never get this "girls NEED female heroes"
that's shallow
i can't think of a positive character who was JUST like me growing up
i didn't look for that, i just wanted characters that were fun and interesting to watch
i didn't care if they were black, or women

these people just want a cardboard cutout to slide into frame, with a tape player taped to it that just plays "i gotta vagina!" over and over.

no wonder these people are threatened by actual women characters that act like real women and real charcters
the idea of saying something other than "I AM A WAMMIN AND I HAVE A PUSSY!" is foreign to them
how can they know to cheer for someone if they don't mention their cunt every 10 seconds? they could just be those evil men in disguise ?

Women want to project themselves on a character, hence Bella from Twilight being bland as fuck and yet super popular.

Men want escapism, hence superheroes, dungeons and dragons, action movies, and video games.

what a hot take

Why do I get the feeling Endgame is going to be another Mass Effect 3?

At least with the latter, the guys were just trying to push speculation rather than identity politics.

I don’t believe this was posted yet, he state Cap Marvel got her powers from the tessaract which adds a lot of fuel to this spoiler for endgame

I just read some spoilers over at Reddit for endgame. Take this with a grain of salt, I just searched for Captain Marvel, wanting to know her involvement. I didn't read anything else, just her introduction. When I saw this I just bust out laughing

Banner finished analyzing his scans of Marvel and speaks with Tony. He tells him that Captain Marvel is almost a perfect replica of an infinity stone herself

Obvious male feminist/cuck/self-hatred aside:

1. Sarah Connor in the original film and its sequel was important for getting pregnant with the man who saves the day. In both of them she was was led around by men.

2. Ripley was written as a male to begin with. Even then, much of her character in later films was tied to her being a woman (see her protectiveness over Newt, the abortion analogue).

Sarah is if anything the anti-Rey (is openly feminine in the original and her behavior in the sequel isn't shown as just admirable considering her own son resents her, is never presented as the light of hope independent of her pregnancy, has to be protected and led by men)

Women want to project themselves on a character, hence Bella from Twilight being bland as fuck and yet super popular.

Men want escapism, hence superheroes, dungeons and dragons, action movies, and video games.

Note however that Bella is designed to be non-threatening to female audiences (she's attractive but not too attractive), isn't the one who drives the plot, is seduced and not the seducer (slut shaming when the woman isn't your wife is way more of a female act than a male one), and has hot violent men fighting over her.

Again, I must this point out.

Almost everyone liked Wonder Woman, so that isn't a leg you can stand on.

If the movie and characters are good, people will like it.

Why is that so hard to understand?
inb4 "is the idea of a good character sexist?"
"white males and the outdated bigoted idea of 'character'"

With or without the vagina pandering, the movie is bad.

I'm pissed at the retconning, I'm pissed they've castrated the potential for the Secret Invasion storyline (all that "twist" showcases is that Marvel is too fucking lazy to write that storyline), and I'm pissed that the main character is apparently so boring and that she's going to bring her snorefest into the movie I actually care about.

As a female myself, I'm sick of being told that I have to like something because "there's a woman in it to represent you!" Bitches, ever since I was three years-old, I've identified with Spider-Man moreso than most other fictional characters. Don't tell me that Spidey can't be "my superhero" because he's a man!

Hot damn! That’s going to take a effect on the box office.

Fire up that Autistic rating, I'm gonna shit all over "the culture war!" again...

Probably not. Looking at those reviews, the vast majority don't talk about having seen a film they don't like. They're making the mistake of bringing "her attacks on Straight White Males!" and "SJWs" into it. Not only is that almost definitely going to be purged, likely even before Sunday, the people that post this shit grossly underestimate how little the mainstream cares, or even knows about half of this shit when it's brought up. This isn't Star Wars, the MCU is literally the biggest shit going on at the moment. They force characters people don't know about into box office hits. People honestly expect this to be any different? Your popcorn munching sea of bodies isn't going to give a shit. Why would they? It can all be dismissed as internet shit, and will be. Now the line isn't "that it'll bomb", but that it'll "underperform", with the expected persomance cited just being vague talk of what they hear "industry spies" have told them.

Call me mad over and over again, but this fuckin' thing ain't flopping. I'd even go so far as to say only doing Doctor Strange numbers isn't too likely. Admittedly, I get very very mad and autistic when Le Great SJW War comes up, but routinely you guys don't really factor in normie reception and just immediately assume if the rating is bad, Joe and Jill Theaterclapper are going to stay away.

Showing the powerlevel as often and as hard is something that should have been avoided, and my overwhelming AutismMad aside the fact that noen of these people know (or care?) how people perceive that powerlevel routinely sets them up for failure.

I always found the villains more interesting as a kid anyway. The rolemodel heroes were always really boring.

This review is nonsense. Kermode prefaced his review with "it wasn't made for me" and repeated that notion more than once. Then he forced himself to give it a half-way okay review.

Pretty sure all of the Zack Snyder DC movies weren't "made for him" either, but he never hesitated to eviscerate them.

(I cannot believe I am sort of sticking up for the DCEU ...)

EDIT: I am also remembering Kermode's epic smackdown review of Sex & The City 2. He tore that movie to shreds! However, I am pretty fucking sure that movie wasn't "made for him" either.

The question in my mind is if Captain Marvel will get repeat customers, because even the praise the film gets is lukewarm at best and I get the impression that this will not be another Black Panther, though who knows? The next major release (Dumbo) isn't for three weeks so CM has the next two weeks to itself. One thing I try to keep in mind is that I have no personal stake in the success of this film so a fanboy pissing match is not worth getting worked up over.

I haven't read back far enough to know if you saw it. But I watched this (guess how I did I won't state) garbage last night. This character won't catch on, and the movie was joyless and incredibly boring. And I didn't like Black Panther but EVEN I WANTED TO WATCH THAT AGAIN!

And no one is saying it's gonna flop, but they believe it may under perform. Word of mouth will damage it.

2. Ripley was written as a male to begin with.

Incorrect. The cast of Alien were written without genders assigned in order to make casting, etc. easier as the movie was considered a risk and the studio wasn't sure who'd they'd be able to get.

This is actually a stronger argument for Ripley's character, as in that film she exhibits traits that would be identifiable for both men and women and therefore made her a better protagonist, as well as a greater surprise survivor compared to Dallas or Parker.
