The consensus on /tv/ is that Disney themselves are brigading the ratings to try and drum up a defensive reaction from the press. Nobody on /pol/ seems to even give a fuck about the movie so any organized effort isn't coming from there. It's unironically an inside job.

Very risky bet, trying to capitalize on the culture war... by making it worse.

WTF are you talking about? Are you some misogynistic, incel manchild pissbaby? Captain Marvel is the first movie to actually say something since the multiple Academy Award-winning Black Panther. There has never been another (Marvel) movie (released by Disney) with a woman (in the sole starring role) before. Captain Marvel will break new ground. 50 years from now kids will be learning about the huge risk Disney took in making the 21st MCU film feature a woman (in the sole starring role).

March 8, 2019 will go down as one of the most important days for women ever. The future is female and straight, white males like yourself better get used to it! Buy your Captain Marvel tickets now!

Ok, but you got the dates wrong. Captain Marvel releases April 5, 2019:

"And having a cat, I guess."

Cuz "I love those monkeys! They're so cute when they run around and ook ook at real people!" wasn't doing enough, so we had to include Real Womens' Issues?

Seriously, the fact that Rotten Tomatoes did this in response to the people calling the people who weren’t interested in seeing it manbabies is baffaling. This keeps making me become more and more disinterested in seeing it.

All this simply does for me is make me believe that some people are really trying cover up a stinker and want as much momentum humanly possible for this. Why else would all this trouble be caused by one friggin movie?

I don't get the attention for the cat.

It's. Just. A. Cat. Am I too jaded or does anyone else think this seems like such a pointless thing for them to fixate on? I see the attention being given and all I envision is the same crowd who would buy Minions or Porgs by the shipping crate. I love Aliens, but writing this sentence is roughly the sum total of time I've ever spent talking about Jones the Cat in decades.

You're too jaded. What's the difference between the cat in this film and Eddie from Frasier, Groot, BB-8, the dog from The Artist or any other cute animal sidekick? Yeah, focusing on the cat is twee as fuck, but then again the cat is there for women to obsess over him. So... mission accomplished.

Modren filmmaking is "Save The Cat" plus 11 gallons of wine. In 2020 you'll see the first $50 million blockbuster starring a CGI cat who saves herself, because she's Just That Sassy. Ever wonder what Garfield would be like if he were a girl? Neither did anybody else, but they got a Prominent Jew to voice her, and boy will we tell you she's funny!

If the X-Men movies had Beast and Eddie as a team I totally would have gone to see them.

Geeez. You can replace Larson with a CGI.
Indeed they better replace her with a CGI, make it taller and has bigger boobs please.
Plus the same could be said with the live-action Ghost in the Shell remake or the 2018 Tomb Raider film reboot; and neither of these respective boring actresses could be replaced by in CG.

In the world where we have the Cat from Captain Marvel; as well as Porgs, Olaf the Snowman, Minions, Scrat the Sabertooth Squirrel, Wheelers from Bayformers, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Gnomeo and Juliet, Secret Life of Pets, the Smurfs, Mike Wazowski--anything that has a "awww short n cute = CUTENESS OVRLOADD!!111 <3" factor is going to appeal and sell to feminists and soccermoms. Though now that I think of it, Danny DeVito does look pretty cute, he should've sold more than either Porgs, the Cap. Marvel Cat, Minions, Olaf, Scrat, or Alvin and the Chipmunks.

I'm not a fan of capeshit films, they really don't do anything for me and I think the blockbuster market is oversaturated with them as it is. Personal opinions aside though, this one really looks like it's going to be a meh fest all the way through.

It's not doing anything original by any objective standard, and the media have already been poisoning the well by preemptively trying to blame the fans for it being a failure because its PR, but it's also an excuse for making a relatively poor movie out of a franchise that should objectively perform better. Think about it, the projections for opening box office have dropped and dropped for this one, and I think Marvel Studios knows it's got a turkey on it's hands.

So instead of taking on the chin, they will do the whole toxic fans spiel because they don't care if they piss off the fandom, it's not going to stop diehard fans from seeing the next avenger movie.

Shazaam looks like it might be decent because I have the feeling it will not take itself overly seriously, and if I was forced to watch one of them I'd go see that instead.

All this fucking drama over what, by all accounts, is a thoroughly mediocre movie just like Black Panther before it.

This latest hubbub over Captain Marvel is just making me anticipate Endgame coming out and my days of even slightly caring about capeshit finally coming to an end.

Endgame will not only conclude the MCU’s storyline that started with Iron Man, it will be the pinnacle of the superhero genre. I predict a resurgence with fantasy films and/or original dramas you would find from a mini major that will take over as the new blockbusters for the 2020s.

To me, it’s going to be impossible for the MCU to have the same success they had in the past ten years for the future. The fact that Brie Larson is going to be taking over the MCU is frightening.

I really don't know anything about this Carol Danvers character other than that old episode of the X-Men cartoon that explained where Rogue got her strength and flight powers from. So I never had any opinion on the character one way or another.
What killed all interest in the movie for me is 100% on the disgusting, racist behavior of the lead actress and the media's gleeful endorsement of her beliefs.

ComicBookGirl19 is not a fan. I'm surprised. I figured she'd bend the knee.

>Iron Man is C-List too

No.

Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of "CAROL IS THE STRONKEST EVER" all over the place and I'm still really confused where it came from. As mentioned earlier in the thread, it's certainly not in the comics where she generally pretty mediocre in that department. She only gets near being a "big gun" if she has some energy source to leech off of but that's not typical. I suppose it's expecting people to be unfamilar with the character and cash in on feminists wanting some all-powerful goddess to self-insert as but as someone who likes (classic) Carol, I'm just lost on the fixation.

Sounds like bullshit and stupidity.

Now I wanna see a MCU Captain Marvel vs. Rey fight. Battle of Mary Sues.

I think it's time to admit that Cebulski is a puppet and Sana Amanat is the real boss of Marvel Comics.

It's like when they removed the 0 and 1 star reviews from the algorithm around the time of TLJ.

Expect the user reviews to disappear in the next few years.
Rotten Tomatoes came to the rescue of Captain Marvel to protect her.

Why is Rotten Tomatoes still relevant?
