Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of "CAROL IS THE STRONKEST EVER" all over the place and I'm still really confused where it came from. As mentioned earlier in the thread, it's certainly not in the comics where she generally pretty mediocre in that department. She only gets near being a "big gun" if she has some energy source to leech off of but that's not typical. I suppose it's expecting people to be unfamilar with the character and cash in on feminists wanting some all-powerful goddess to self-insert as but as someone who likes (classic) Carol, I'm just lost on the fixation.

Shit, did Feige forget to read the CM script before focusing on Endgame?

Feige you idiot, Marvel Girl is stronger than thanos, not Captain Marvel.

also nobody can tell me that this was his plan all along Carol Danvers became captain marvel in 2012, the Avengers movie was already in cinemas at that point...
Probably, they seem to really want her to be the biggest thing ever. In the comics she's supposedly "the most popular superhero in the world" which is weird since the only thing she did of note before the title was knocking Tony Stark into a coma. I think it's kinda interesting to compare the two approaches at shilling her, the comics insisting she's super popular in their world or the MCU (so far) saying seems focused on power.

Also yeah, Jean Grey is arguably "stronger than Thanos" but that's one of those things where you need asterisks to explain some comic babble like if the Phoenix or Infinity Gauntlet are included. It's not worth thinking too hard about since reducing Thanos to a guy you just punch out is pretty hacky and misses the point about him representing nihilism. It's why he usually screws himself over.

You sure? I mean did anybody read her last book?

Carol being this world popular super hero celebrity in the comics now is... strange. Back in her early '00 series (which was okay-ish, I read it mainly because Anya Corazon was a supporting character for a while) the fact that she was a d-list hero was used as part of her character.

The problem with Danvers is that she really has nothing going for her. She doesn't have a strong personality like Spider-Man, doesn't have strong dynamics with a group of characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy do or Fantastic Four's dysfunctional family set-up, doesn't have an interesting hook like Daredevil being blind or his being a defense attorney, and doesn't have any interesting rogues or a strong, consistent supporting cast like Superman.

It's not really a problem unique to her, of course. I'd say probably 90% of Marvel's and DC's characters don't have what it takes to be a lead character. Most of them are good for a team or as a supporting character but aren't strong enough characters to carry their own books. A good writer can turn a character around - Moon Knight for example started as a fairly bland, with really no reason to exist. Eventually they built upon the moon god stuff he was connected to and made him mentally unstable, giving him interesting character hooks.

With Carol Danvers, though, Marvel seems to think that she's fine as is and anyone who finds her bland and boring is in the wrong and just doesn't like stronk womyn characters.

Lmao cuck cope

if CM really is more powerful than thanos why are they spoiling the film?

It feels like they took the meme too seriously and are trying to legit make a character “more powerful than thanos (with the infinity gauntlet)”

...I wonder if Brie Larson realizes that Bob Iger is going to lay into her a new if this underperforms. I mean, this man will do anything to have Disney make a profit and he has no room for identity politics. Just look at Kathleen Kennedy with her Star Wars treatment.

Disney, led by Iger, wants identity politics. It’s why Marvel Comics repeatedly hires executives to push this. It’s why they were happy to see Star Wars preach the faith. It’s why Captain Marvel is being packaged as a feminist film.

What they actually want is for identity politics to sell. Axel Alonso was fired because he went too far and ended up losing too much money. Cebulski is continuing to toe the line on identity politics, albeit in a more measured way. He’s not utterly wrecking the big titles with it - he’s being more subtle. Why else would Gay Iceman be brought back? It sold like shit before, and it’s selling just as badly in its return.

Ms. Marvel is a terrible failure, yet it can’t be cancelled. Disney is happy to get their identity politics jollies through these titles so long as the regular titles continue to sell. Kennedy didn’t go rogue. Her mistake was similar to Alonso’s. She went balls deep and ended up alienating the audience. Iger wanted something equivalent to Will & Grace and she gave him random guys fucking in bus station toilets.

I think it's time to admit that Cebulski is a puppet and Sana Amanat is the real boss of Marvel Comics.

RT removing "want to see" from upcoming movies and it's definitely not just because of Captain Marvel: http://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/article/making-some-changes/
It's like when they removed the 0 and 1 star reviews from the algorithm around the time of TLJ.
in an effort to streamline the site
Expect the user reviews to disappear in the next few years.

This! One of the reasons Ms. Marvel can’t be cancelled is it’s the closest Amanat, their Director of Content and Character Creation, has to a claim to actually creating a character. Everything else is minor and mostly work in editing.

Amanat’s rise through Marvel is the comics equivalent of playing pub gigs for two years before being invited to replace Bono as the frontman of U2. She’s there for a reason, and it’s not from having a proven track record in making comics that sell.

Amanat is also everywhere, she even has her own show on their Marvel YT channel. I don't know if you've seen their channel but it's sad to see. It's everything but comics, there's a cooking show, a woman-only podcast, Amanat hosts a show dedicatedto identity politics and shoving their latest woke comic series, they never talk about the comics that people enjoy.
She openly said when she got hired that she knew nothing about comics, but she knows the right people (she even met Obama if I'm not mistaken).

I’ve seen them. Their copies shipped, let alone actual sales, plummet and they’re doing cooking shows and feminist nonsense. Amanat doesn’t seem to be a “comics person”, and she has mentioned a wish to make Marvel a “lifestyle brand”, whatever that means.

She doesn’t seem interested in comics. Perhaps she likes the idea of comics, but not comics itself. Because of this she will change Marvel in to something she’s more comfortable with. That she’s able to do this would seem to owe a lot to whatever political connections she has.

CBG can be pretty based at times. She absolutely shit talked the GB2016 movie. Also here's this meme that was posted in her replies:

God that's pretty embarassing for her. Why would you put that on the internet?

Of all the iconic heroines in Marvel's history, why a watered down and unlikable version of a character without brand recognition? There's so many iconic or cult favourite female supers you could have chosen that have sold more and are way better, like She Hulk or Spider-Woman, yet you go with Manvers?
She-Hulk is under Universal and Spider-Woman is under Sony as well, and the MCU doesn’t want to make anymore Hulk movies after the first one with Edward Norton bombed.

It’s kinda hard to make a strong independent woman movie when you don’t have access to your strong independent female characters.

If the movie was good to begin with, Rottentomatoes and the media wouldn't have to protect the film.
If it was a good movie the word of mouth from early screenings would've been about Brie Larson's character, not the damn cat.

I'd watch a Shulk movie if they made it like an action comedy. You know, assuming good picks for director and lead actress.
