If the movie was good to begin with, Rottentomatoes and the media wouldn't have to protect the film.
Something tells me that the people who were praising it during the social media reaction are in denial that the movie is a lot worse than we're expecting.

I wouldn't say they were in denial as much as under a strict NDA and forced to copy and paste a list of talking points under threat of being blackballed from every Disney prerelease screening until the heat death of the universe.

She-Hulk is under Universal and Spider-Woman is under Sony as well, and the MCU doesn’t want to make anymore Hulk movies after the first one with Edward Norton bombed.

It’s kinda hard to make a strong independent woman movie when you don’t have access to your strong independent female characters.
Well shit I didn't know that. No wonder they chose Manvers, they're desperate.

In fact, I just realised why troons are white knighting for this movie, the main character looks like an idealised version of themselves: a manish rude shebeast and is totes powerful and not chemically imbalanced you guise
I'd watch a Shulk movie if they made it like an action comedy. You know, assuming good picks for director and lead actress.
I'm really feeling that idea.

Is it true that the final "Want to See" score was 27%?

It was around that percentage before Rotten Tomatoes pulled their stunt. I can't wait to see the audience reaction when the movie comes and the major shilling defense for it just like TLJ.

The consensus on /tv/ is that Disney themselves are brigading the ratings to try and drum up a defensive reaction from the press. Nobody on /pol/ seems to even give a fuck about the movie so any organized effort isn't coming from there. It's unironically an inside job.

so, now when you make a video about the Rotten tomatoes Captain Marvel on Youtube you won't get views, but you will still get likes and comments. Censorship at it's finest.

Well they're already coming up with their excuses and "best parts" about the movie like they did with the Last Jedi, this time though it's more of a preemptive strike like they're in some sort of war with fans. Don't get me wrong, it's nice that a cat is the main star of a movie without even trying.

Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of "CAROL IS THE STRONKEST EVER" all over the place and I'm still really confused where it came from. As mentioned earlier in the thread, it's certainly not in the comics where she generally pretty mediocre in that department. She only gets near being a "big gun" if she has some energy source to leech off of but that's not typical. I suppose it's expecting people to be unfamilar with the character and cash in on feminists wanting some all-powerful goddess to self-insert as but as someone who likes (classic) Carol, I'm just lost on the fixation.

This is probably clickbait as Journalists would like to exaggerate things for headlines or this is what happened:

Journalist: Is Captain Marvel stronger than Thanos?

Feige: Snorting coke, Yeah sure

Then this article happened.

It kind of baffles me that the majority of the best female characters in fiction were written ten years or more ago as opposed to now. Back then, people didn't need to try to make female characters empowering--it just came naturally when they weren't trying so hard to be woke or feminist or whatever. I could name hundreds of solid female characters from movies, tv shows, comics, games, etc. that all have their place as excellent female protagonists without needing to shove their gender in everyone's faces.

But again, I guess those don't count.

The sad thing about this is that the best female characters seem to come more from eastern or very independent creators who don't give a shit about identity politics. The worst thing about Captain Marvel is that she is in a franchise where there are already a few well written female characters so she doesn't even have that going for her.

Honestly, it'll probably be fine. Not great or awful, but fine. And everyone will overblow its positives to call it FEMINIST MASTERPIECE or SJW TRASH. Calm down, its just a movie about buttless Superman.

I can agree with that. I honestly think no one would care about this movie too much if Brie Larson didn't act like a dumbass in the press.

The sequel better be called Captain Marvel 2: The Quest For Ass

Good point. Being frank, I'm still not paying cash to see the movie, but I can just see it as just a mediocre blockbuster flick at best; although it won't change the fact that A) Brie Larson is one of the worst actresses in history and B) she constantly acts like a fucking moron with a higher ego in press conferences while promoting her projects to this day.

Think of it this way, Gal Gaddot didn't act like a buffoon when she promoted Wonder Woman during press conferences and was open for criticisms; and the same for Faye Dunnaway, Hallie Berry, nor Jennifer Garner for the critically panned Supergirl, Catwoman, or Elektra; but then again, these latter three films were made and released in different respective time periods.

As much of a dead horse as it is, what sealed the deal with me was Brie doing what amounts to "selfies at grandpa's funeral" levels of disrepect in a deleted instagram post. Keep in mind that the movie that will have "IN MEMORY OF STAN LEE" will star an actress that used his death as an excuse for compliment fishing. That is an insult if I ever saw one.

I'm very confused why Captain Marvel is getting so much praise for being a female superhero when the franchise she's a part of includes Gamora, Nebula, Scarlet Witch, and Black Widow. What makes her different?

WTF are you talking about? Are you some misogynistic, incel manchild pissbaby? Captain Marvel is the first movie to actually say something since the multiple Academy Award-winning Black Panther. There has never been another (Marvel) movie (released by Disney) with a woman (in the sole starring role) before. Captain Marvel will break new ground. 50 years from now kids will be learning about the huge risk Disney took in making the 21st MCU film feature a woman (in the sole starring role).

March 8, 2019 will go down as one of the most important days for women ever. The future is female and straight, white males like yourself better get used to it! Buy your Captain Marvel tickets now!
