A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

They shouldn’t have let him go
I don't think he would've done Nighty Night if he didn't lose HIGNFY. And I think Nighty Night is one of the best British comedies.

Also, Peeves really did a great job with her makeup this morning to prove everything is alright. Dangerous game since it'd run if she cried again.

Unironically TDS. Private eye is absolutely drek these days

It is isn’t it? It used to be great, and now it’s not. I notice the staff has shifted from primarily male cocaine-fags-n-booze at lunch terrier journos to young women as well. Trebles all round, as long as it’s ok with my Xanax, darling
I would say that while Trump was unquestionably a big part of it Brexit broke them harder. They are of course pro-Hamas too, essentially it is a full blown London luvvies rag now.

I still get it. Some decent articles and very useful to know how people still pretending to be edgy think.

Zarah Sultana (MP for Coventry South) has left the Labour party and is setting up a new party with Jeremy Corbyn.
No surprising but great find. This will be a full blown Hamas positive party unsurprisingly. I'd suspect they might pick up Birmingham next election.
The MP for Coventry South made the announcement on Thursday evening.

She cited reasons such as the government scrapping winter fuel payments for pensioners, cuts for disabled people and the two-child benefit cap.
She also accused the government of being an "active participant" in genocide.
"We are not going to take this anymore. We're not an island of strangers; we're an island that's suffering," she said in a statement announcing her resignation.

She added that in 2029, "the choice will be stark: socialism or barbarism.
"Billionaires already have three parties fighting for them. It's time the rest of us had one."

Her full statement reads: "Today, after 14 years, I'm resigning from the Labour Party.
"Jeremy Corbyn and I will co-lead the founding of a new party, with other Independent MPs, campaigners and activists across the country.
"Westminster is broken but the real crisis is deeper. Just 50 families now own more wealth than half the UK population. Poverty is growing, inequality is obscene and the two-party system offers nothing but managed decline and broken promises.
"A year ago, I was suspended by the Labour Party for voting to abolish the two-child benefit cap and lift 400,000 children out of poverty. I'd do it again. I voted against scrapping winter fuel payments for pensioners. I'd do it again.
Now, the government wants to make disabled people suffer; they just can't decide how much.

"Meanwhile, a billionaire-backed grifter is leading the polls, because Labour has completely failed to improve people's lives. And across the political establishment, from Farage to Starmer, they smear people of conscience trying to stop a genocide in Gaza as terrorists.
"But the truth is clear: this government is an active participant in genocide. And the British people oppose it.
"We are not going to take this anymore. We're not an island of strangers; we're an island that's suffering.
"We need homes and lives we can actually afford, not rip-off bills we pay every month to a tiny elite bathing in cash. We need our money spent on public services, not forever wars.
"In 2029, the choice will be stark: socialism or barbarism.
"Billionaires already have three parties fighting for them. It's time the rest of us had one."

I fully expect at least some of the so-called Gaza Independents to join, as may other MPs who lost the Labour whip over the two-child benefit cap (I am thinking particularly of John McDonnell, although he may not want to burn the bridge with his party yet).

There was, helpfully enough, some hypothetical polling carried out by More in Common last week, asking who people would vote for if a Corbyn-led alternative was available;

The results are broadly as you might expect - the Green party is cut in half and Labour lose a chunk as well. It will be interesting to see how it plays out in reality.

Yeah I fucking called it, muzzie-commie "popular front" here we are, expect Galloway and his lot to join up too.
The race war is gonna morph into a colour-coded class-war, mark my words.

The socialist/Muslim team up has happened quite a few times through out history. Just ask the Iranians how that worked out for the Socialists who worked with them during their revolution.

I wonder if the rest of the "Independent Alliance" are gonna join it? Corbyn wanted to make a party but I was guessing he wanted to avoid the blatant optics issue of creating a party under Palestinian colours with only Muslim MPs apart of it.

Now he went and made his own party... with a Muslim MP who supports Gaza. I am eager to see the colours and whether the Independent Alliance MPs also join it. I suspect he wanted to be in a leadership position if he didn't give a shit about optics.

Edit: Here is Sultana's statement on it from her Twitter:

"Other independent MPs"
Yeah, this is the fucking Muslim Party.

Islamic socialism was the foundation ideology of Pakistan.
There are a number of 'isms' being talked about now-a-days, but we are convinced that for us there is only one 'ism', namely Islamic Socialism, which in a nutshell, means that every person in this land has equal rights to be provided with food, shelter, clothing, education and medical facilities. Countries which cannot ensure these for their people can never progress. The economic programme drawn up some 1,350 years back is still the best economic programme for us. In fact, whatever systems people may try out they all ultimately return to Islamic Socialism by whatever name they may choose to call it.

If this party takes root I think we will see the two big political powers be between Reform (white) and this (brown). The next 2 election cycles may decide the fate of this land once and for all.

If Miliband is being reigned in, then he'll resign - got no time for the guy but he's a former party leader and Labour restricting the voice of one of their high profile MP's will end in disaster.
After he left politics and started doing his regular podcast and things I grew to quite like him, I think he's one of the more human politicians out there, certainly more so than most of his self serving champagne socialist peers. Should have probably stuck to that. At least he's pro nuclear power.

Muslim party imploding after two hours would be a peak Corbyn moment.

He's probably wondering why she had to announce it, because he's a retard unable to grasp that you have to SWITCH PARTIES IMMEDIATELY otherwise Starmer could have forced a by-election. Once the rumours dropped of a new party coming out she had to publicly announce it or she was toast.

I think she'll be toast either way, along with the MP's who voted to try and save Palestine Action's skin.

The only option to them now (if they genuinely believe in PA's actions) is to resign the whip and stand as Independents or join this new whacky uber-Left party which will crash quicker than Change UK.

A year to the date since Labour took power, they already look like a spent force.

I would slap my mama for a new series of TTOI based in the year of our lord 2025.
I'm bored of this. I'm going for a Twix.

The same guy (Ianucci) did an American version called Veep which is actually pretty good if you look past the American part. Don't think we need a new season of The Thick Of It when we get a brand new episode every day, though it would be nice.

Always has been. They fucked their reputation by supporting Wakefield, whose so-called research set back vaccine efficacy research by about a century, through a combination of graft, lies, grift, and ironic autism.
