A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Brit thread mega poll. Who was the hottest (most fuckable) at their peak:

Lilly Allen - :like:
Britney Spears (TIL britney was 16 in the 'hit me baby one more time' video. Is the world just pedophiles?- :agree:
Hannah Montana (not Miley Cyrus) Edit - I just googled this. Miley was 14 as hannah montanna. My bad.- :feels:
Billie Piper - :winner:
Fort Boyard Melinda Messenger - :informative:
Lucy Pinder - :optimistic:
Keeley Hazell - :disagree:
Your poll is a sham, a sick mockery. The fittest late 90s/early 2000s page 3 girl was Leilani, and she's still fit (and delightfully right wing on twitter)

Britney Spears is untouchable, she's iconic, flawless, trend-setting, the blueprint for this generation of artists, who are failing miserably.

She will always be my queen, after Queen Elizabeth the First, of course. The original lizz knew how to fuck up pakis and niggers.

What’s that grifter up to these days?

As for Jack Monroe (as asked for by @FedPostalService ) having a quick nose over at Tattle reveals that she's no longer using Monroe for her surname (it's Hadjicostas again) and she's grifting over on BlueSky desperate for money and attention yet again

Local (not a) "lawyer" @Legal Gengar did a whole autistic alog hitpiece on her a not too long back on his screeching into the void website nobody reads, it's quite good and very well researched and soothingly Daily Mailesque I recommend it
She has a thread and as of February appears to be working as a policy advisor for Southend Council. I don't know why you'd trust her to advise you on anything, given her dangerous lifehacks and apparent inability to stop herself buying excessive amounts of furniture while lying about her son living with her. As @Made In Wales observes Tattle is the better source (even if they were weirdly hostile to Legal Gengar) and their attempts at cooking "Jackslop" are genuinely entertaining.

Sometimes I find threads that I don't think I'd enjoy posting in, because of the culture of the regular posters. So I just read them.

Sometimes we can find an entire "board culture" doesn't suit us. That's why I don't post on Tattle.

I think perhaps you may want to consider posting somewhere like The DataLounge, I think it'd be more up your (back) alley

Working for an Essex Council...

She'll go the same way as Simon Harris, I'm calling it now.

Simon Harris, Netanya Marie Smith (Supertanskii) and Jack Monroe - Essex's version of the Three Musketeers...

'Durham MP Mary Foy is in an undeclared relationship with boss of trade union she lobbied for in HoC.

Mary introduced an Early Day Motion on behalf of the union, asking for a pay rise for firefighters.

She took a £2k donation from FBU for her 2024 GE campaign.'

Oh, and what's this about Starmer?

Little Lord Starmeroy from now on...

As much of a Socialist as Dianne Abbott is gifted at mathematics.

how about you read the article you're posting? his grandfather was a gamekeeper there and lived in an ornamental cottage on the estate as part of the job. He wasn't lord of the manor.

Already did.

Starmer's always trying to pass himself off as one of us.

If he had said 'My Dad owned the Toolmaking Company and, yes my Grandfather was a Gamekeeper, but I do still care about Socialism and doing a good job for the people I have been elected to serve as Prime Minister' then most of his detractors would have said 'fair enough'.

As it is, he's always hiding something and even if it's not overtly 'suspect' it now appears that any whiff of scandal is going to be bad.

So the Quran burner guy has been found guilty of a public order offense, cementing the idea that we have a blasphemy law.

Just remember the next time your wife and kids are being bumraped by Pakis to tell the police that you thought you saw someone drawing a picture of Mohammed.

You know what I find telling lately? Comments on Linked In on Kier Starmers posts. Swear words, actual racism, calling that odious little prick out on a platform where people use their real names and their profiles are linked to their employer.

Interesting shit indeed.

Possibly fake and gay bots to encourage real people into joining in and landing on a hot list, just like those "don't work for a day (on a saturday)" protests that were totally not honey pots?

I mean I've said plenty of times before, the police are a paper tiger. Going all in on tweets last year was one of the worst things they could do because now A) It's set a precedent and B) when the REAL fire kicks off, good luck arresting 20k people at once.

It was easy as hell to arrest an odd blatant racist ages back when the general consensus was "Immigration good" but now? They're using the same tactics as before on a radicalised population. One that realises the most terrifying thing a police officer can hear is "Yeah, and so what?".

The past few years have shown us in crystal clear HD what happens when the police are overwhelmed. There have been times where they'll straight up arrest an innocent person who is caught up in mob ruling because they know it's better to diffuse the situation by getting rid of anyone who goes against the mob rule than arresting the mob. They're itching to take the batons to Our Tommeh (actually Rupert Glaxo-Smith-Klein sweetie) but fold the moment a bunch of rowdy Islamists parade down the streets past synagogues.

The working class used to have a fairly tolerant opinion of the police, yeah wrong un's would always hate them, but the average fairly law abiding working class bloke would recognise that the average bobby is doing a decent job. Now they see that when their phones are nicked the police do fuck all, now they see when a person of boat rapes a jogger in broad daylight the police will tell them to 'avoid spreading misinformation', now when a bloke says that this is bad on social media THEY'RE the ones getting a front door knocking.

To make it funnier, look what I saw today.

Wrexham police using an AI generated image of a copper crying to show the world that the police are people too... to see the entire comment chain being a bunch of working class blokes absolutely rip the fuck out of them.

The United Kingdom is built up of a bunch of unwritten rules, we're a high trust society that generally respects authorities and the government even if we don't like them. Importing a bomillion niggers who don't grasp the concept of a queue or that stealing isn't a good thing just shits all over our autistic ruleset. When the social contract is broken all bets are off what happens next.
