A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

They could instantly kill Starmer by bringing it up. Why haven't they said anything yet?

This will be grist for anyone critical of lucy letby's conviction: Manslaughter case launched into Nottingham baby deaths

There's going to be more of these coming out, which will no doubt be used to call for quashing Letby's conviction, on the basis that she was made a scapegoat for a systemic neonatal care issue through the NHS. Turns out the entire thing is apparently one gigantic baby slaughtering machine.

Anyone who has ever worked with nurses should know that 95% of them are complete headcases who could easily be stitched up if someone decided to create a false papertrail. It's a complete alien culture that comes from high stress situations, emotionally draining scenarios and straight up overwork and the gallows humour would Frankie Boyle blush.

I absolutely believe she killed a few babies, but I also believe that the NHS thought this was a great way of offloading some more weird deaths onto her so they could close a bunch of cases and wipe their hands of any failings.

The dark reality is that babies are really fucking vulnerable and can die from just about anything, combine that with babies that are in intensive care for some reason or other and even an overworked nurse recording the wrong oxygen saturation or connecting a tube wrong could result in the baby dying overnight. Then there's SIDS which is remarkable, a healthy baby can just pass away overnight for no reason. I absolutely guarantee that at least one baby in the trial died while Letby wasn't on shift, but because clock in-out notes are so fucking garbled and she could still physically be in the building while the baby died, she's still a suspect.

And here's the kicker, there was no direct eyewitnesses to any death Letby caused (because of overwork and there being one nurse to X wards) which makes it very difficult to convict other than on the balance of probabilities and other weird things (the diary for example is such a weird thing to use) meaning no matter the outcome of the trial, there were always going to be a lot of people unhappy.

I personally look forward to those (not necessarily on this forum) who argued with me that Lucy Letby is a child-killing psychopath (it said so in her diary!), now telling me how they knew Letby was innocent all along.

Every maternity ward in the NHS should be put under the brightest spot light, most intense microscope and their training and practices scoured over with a fine-toothed comb.

Babies Letby never touched died and she was blamed. Yet loads that she was left alone with, even when covering on OT shifts, never died. Her diary said meanie things so, so her psychic hatred of babies killed them through telekinesis.

Because Reform is co ran by a Muslim who would be all for them.

This is a fucking laugh.

Basically, to get promoted from the Vanarama Premier to the EFL League 2, you either have to win the league or finish in positions 2-7.

There is then a weird as hell 'play-off' where the team which finished fourth plays the team which finished seventh and fifth plays sixth over two legs, home and away.

The winners of these matches then play either the team which finished second or third over two legs, with the winners meeting at Wembley in the play-off final.

York City were miles ahead of other teams at one point, but were pipped by Barnet to first place. They then lost in the play-off semi-final to Oldham Athletic who beat FC Halifax Town in the quarter-final and as a result were shocked that they would have to spend another season in non-league.

This letter smacks of entitlement - your team simply wasn't good enough.

Whilst I'd be okay with 3 up 3 down from/to the Football League from the Vanarama Premier, her letter is not the thing which will convince the powers that be at the FA.

I don't know anything about miley cyrus other than she's dead and her replacement is a whore. Was hannah montanna not 18+?

If not, my bad and swap in miley cyrus.

i googled this and she's 14. I thought she was older with the way the Family guy episode jizzes over her. Britney was 16 in her first music video. The world is just pedophiles. I'm horrified.

Edit. S club juniors existed and was a thing. The pop world is pedophiles. I'm walking away from this rabbit hole.
Someone pass me a John Smiths.
Frankie Bridge and Rochelle Humes started off in the Juniors before they eventually got promoted to be the backbone of the Saturdays.

I like Frankie and Rochelle. They are nice lassies.

The Juniors were much better than Schlub because the record company were more willing to take a flyer on their writers. They had Cathy Dennis and Georgie Dennis writing for them, ffs. They had fucking Stargate writing on their first album! Those Juniors tracks are fucking bangers.

Also Frankie and Rochelle were better singers than Rachel and Jo and the other lassies. #teamjuniors

i was just refering to more kids in pop music and frankie was jizzed over the second she turned 18. After what The Sun did with Charlotte Church, I don't believe the sick fucks in the music industry weren't introducing Frankie to the casting couch before she hit puberty.

They should clean the fucking things first. As someone who has given birth on the nhs and experienced things I won’t PL about but which were Very Awful, I’d happily see this happen. If I ever had to give birth again I’d rather be attended by our local vet

I went to a UK hospital last year for reasons that aren't important. The whole event was a farce and every dr, nurse and receptionist was a nigger or a paki (I was in a white majority area). The worst part, the toilet where I had to give a sample had a massive dried blood stain on the floor with feces inside of it. As I walked out, a nignog with a mop bucket which had water darker than him in it, was smiling and wiping the walls with the mop.

They absolutely should be cleaned, properly, and it wasn't long ago that MRSA was almost eradicated because it turned out the hospital staff has terrible hygiene.

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience when giving birth as well. I wonder what the legit stats of babies dying is, and I wonder if the stats improved during COVID when more staff and care could be given to expectant mothers.

I wonder what the legit stats of babies dying is,
Too high. Far too high. The most common stuff is simply neglect based injury. In my social circle I’ve women who have had
- traumatic forceps births (I thought they were banned) which resulted in broken pelvis for one woman and broken coccyx for the other. Both women were gaslit, told to shut up and refused follow up - both found the breaks after months of agony and being refused x rays despite being unable to walk /in constant pain. The one with the broken pelvis literally was in a wheelchair and was told she was making a fuss.
-massive hip and nerve damage from being left in stirrups.
-woman left waiting to have a fourth degree tear for hours, just left in a room who thought her baby was dead
- over 2 l of blood loss and no transfusion or iron infusions in a tiny petite mother.
- c section anaesthesia wearing off midway
-‘you’re not in labour go home’ followed by emergency helicopter lift back to hospital where eventually it was revealed that nobody actually checked how dilated she was
-refusal of c section for breech baby, who subsequently nearly died and is mildly brain damaged
-being sewn up by a trainee with no supervision.
- being sewn up too tight (so your husband is happy again!’
-and then all the low key but miserable stuff. No painkillers after emergency hip to hip c section. Like, none. We should be giving you paracetamol but all our nurses are gossiping and on their phones so tough.
-men peeking around curtains while women are having examinations and breastfeeding
Filthy toilets used by men visitors.
-no help in lifting babies even after emergency surgery.
-shouting at women who are in pain and tired. I ripped them a new one as I was leaving for this and I’ve never raised my voice to a HCP but they were absolutely disgraceful the way they were treating this poor girl.
It’s just awful. And I’m a fairly no nonsense person who doesn’t expect kid gloves, I expect clean, realistic and professional.

Holy fuck that is worse than I could have imagined. I can say, with certainty, that 3rd-world eastern European hospitals are cleaner, better, safer and everything-er than the NHS. It's quite terrifying how far the UK has fallen and how quick.
Pack your bags, your little-otters, grab some logs and float to a better country.

They should clean the fucking things first.
Never gonna happen.
"It's all gone to shit standards are slipped and it's all gonna get privatized" >NHS cleaner I know.
The "cleaning" is a joke, they don't have actually "cleaners" anymore or even good old "environmental health workers" either, it's all "patient services" which is some newspeak gibberish which means some amorphous blob of kitchens porting and actually scrubbing the damn floors. The organizational structure is a mess of supervisors/managers/directors, 60 year old ladies who just wanna retire are denied voluntary redundancies because they're the only non-agency staff left.

The culture is stuffed too, the leftover oldsters who've been doing 4 hours a day for 30 years are the only ones actually get anything done and are the sole bulwark holding super-mega-MRSA at bay because they're the last remnants of a time when you actually had people who did their jobs properly, you can always tell which areas have someone's elderly neighbour working on it because the bins actually get changed more than once every 2 weeks.
