A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I'll have to give them a listen, I did swerve Radiohead years ago thinking that all they did was depressive tunes but I'm happy to change my mind.

Some news in brief:

Rayner hits back over leak claims that her memo was a plan to oust Starmer.

Nigel's pitch for power shows little sign of diminishing as ex-Labour voters flock to Reform UK.

There was never a real plot, if Chavlangua Rayner was really planning on ousting Starmer then she would resign. A Depty Resigning would lead to others jumping ship and an eventual leadership challenge.

It would be hilarous is 2TK ends up lasting less than a year

The most obvious potential challenger was Streeting, given he's firmly in the terf faction of the party and was voicing some strong concerns, but Starmer has mostly managed to coopt that position, even though it's damaging him with the progressives. It occurred to me, just today, that Streeting may still be in the running as a spoiler, who will be allowed to lead a challenge that is set up to fail in order to cement Starmer's position. Risky proposition, given a large part of the party and the unions are in a "fuck Starmer" mood and might vote for the devil himself to achieve their aim.

Rayner absolutely wants to oust him, though. The latest leak was most likely a deliberate one by her office, as it was clearly framed to take down Reeves's and Starmer's "cut bennies" stance, by proposing "tax the wealthy" alternatives that are red meat to the Labour base, and some superficial "dem immigants" relief for the reformists that didn't actually target the real problem of illegals. It backfired on her though, because she's not actually very intelligent. It might have worked, if only people didn't already feel they were paying more than enough tax and if they weren't alreayd hyper-sensitive to legalistic trickery around illegals and asylum seekers, but the combo of rising poverty and the fact that she's a hypocritical slag who hates her working class origins kind of turned it back on her.

although you will be barred from certain jobs like the police or being a prison officer if you were a member
Have you seen how ineffective the police vetting is at the moment? They can't go more than a few weeks without a news story about how they let another nonce work for them or they just didn't ever do any checks before giving a rapist a job.

I am, yes. Problem?
lol. There are some good ones from 2000 onwards. Neon bible, vespertine, let England shake, funeral, stories from the city, mezzanine, odelay, drukqs. Reveal
Then there’s a lot that are almost great. Beck, fleet foxes, everything REM did after reveal, gorillaz, then ones that looked like they might be great but never panned out . arctic monkeys, vampire weekend neutral milk hotel. Plenty of interesting folk stuff the last 25 years for sure, I’m glad that’s had a revival but the great indie rock albums are predominantly 1986-2007 and that’s a fact.
Am completely open to new music suggestions!
Depending upon whether or not you like Prog, this band 'Big Big Train' might be worth a listen:

Not new per se but they've found fame later on in their career rather than at the start.

It's because they don't check them again once they are in. They've tried to improve it but the police unions kick off. They tried to bring in random drug testing but the unions cried too much.

I've said before the amount of checks I had to go through just to be a spreadsheet nerd in the private sector, and those checks can be repeated at any time, but if I went to the civil service I would do those checks once and, excluding certain roles related to national security, I could go on a crime spree that wouldn't get noticed just as long as I booked court dates off and didn't end up in a newspaper a colleague read.

I just wonder how long it will be until she is axed.

I have never been more disappointed in a fellow shitposter.

Radiohead. Shakes head in disbelief.
not for everyone, I know. I have never and will never be cool and I don’t care. I just like what I like, . I’ve been in the garden most of the afternoon listening to P J Harvey as I pot the tomatoes on.
(Please be enough sun to actually ripen the bastards this year, thank you….)

I’ll give them a listen. Can’t say I’m massively into prog rock as a concept but it’s a broad church and I’m open minded.
@FedPostalService is there no required notification for some things?? You think there’d be a list like:

-someone does a DBS check on Bob
-Bob is clean, gets the job.
-Bob does something very bad.
-everyone who has a current DBS check on Bob gets a notification

Is this not done??

Reform accused of 'blatant racism' over Sarwar ad
Scottish Labour has described a Reform UK social media advert featuring Anas Sarwar as "blatantly racist".
The online video posted ahead of a by-election in South Lanarkshire features text which says: "Anas Sarwar has said he will prioritise the Pakistani community".
Labour accused Reform of questioning Sarwar's "identity, loyalty and belonging".
Reform insisted the advert was not racist and said it had no plans to remove it.
According to Meta's advert library, the post has been running on Facebook and Instagram since 12 May and cost Reform between £8,000 and £9,000.
It is estimated to have been viewed up to half a million times.
The advert includes clips from a 2022 speech given by Sarwar at an event celebrating the 75th anniversary of Pakistan's independence.
He says: "Pakistanis need represented in every mainstream political party in Scotland and across the UK".
It also features an excerpt of the Labour leader stating that "the days where South Asian communities get to lead political parties and get to lead countries is upon us".
Neither clip in the advert includes Sarwar stating the Pakistani community in Scotland would be "prioritised".
Sarwar was born in Glasgow to Pakistani Muslim parents.
His father, Mohammad Sarwar, became the UK's first Muslim MP when he was elected to represent Glasgow Govan in 1997.
A spokesperson for Sarwar said: "This is a blatantly racist advert from Reform UK that attempts to question the identity, loyalty and belonging of Anas Sarwar.
"Anas was born in Scotland and has lived here all his life. He is a proud Scot who has worked in our NHS and campaigns to deliver for every Scot.
"Decent people across Scotland will reject Reform's divisive politics."

'Scummy tactics'

Voters will go to the polls in the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse by-election on 5 June following the death of SNP MSP Christina McKelvie earlier this year.
The advert has been condemned by other political parties across Scotland.
An SNP spokesperson said: "Scotland is a proudly diverse and welcoming country - it is incumbent on all of us to stand up to those who seek to provoke division and marginalise communities across Scotland."
The Scottish Liberal Democrats accused Reform of "selective editing" and "scummy tactics".
Meanwhile, the Scottish Greens said: "This is a despicable attempt by Reform to bring blatant racism into the by-election."
Reform said the party was simply "advertising Sarwar's own words".
A spokesperson added: "If he doesn't like them, he shouldn't use them.
"We know Scottish Labour is ashamed of Keir Starmer's rhetoric, but it appears now they're also trying to hide from Anas Sarwar's record - we'll be happy in helping them by highlighting his record at every turn."
The candidates standing in the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse by-election are:
  • Katy Loudon - SNP
  • Davy Russell - Labour
  • Richard Nelson - Conservative
  • Ann McGuinness - Greens
  • Aisha Mir - Liberal Democrat
  • Ross Lambie - Reform
  • Collette Bradley - Scottish Socialist Party
  • Andy Brady - Scottish Family Party
  • Janice Mackay - UK Independence Party
  • Mark Wilkinson - Independent

No lies detected, Anas Sarwar (Anal Sewer) hates Whites and Reform UK pointing out the obvious truth is not 'hate'.

Maybe if the entitled, pompous, mudskinned one was actually a NICE PERSON this wouldn't be a problem, but no he has to get a hate-boner in order to even achieve orgasm.

Fuck you, Anas, hope you get fucked to death by pigs.

How in the world is that racist? At this point people should just give up and call them dirty pakis outright, then they can cry about racism.

Listen, I can understand having issues with TV or Movies being shit nowadays because the entire distribution system is fucked beyond belief and even if you and a team of bright individuals finally make the show there's no guarantee any distribution service will host it... but music? Any fucker can pick up a guitar and write an album and stick it on spotify in the year of our lord 2025.

Even if you cut away the identikit girlboss bands that populate the radio nowadays (which honestly isn't that bad compared the the ear grating mid 10s featuring the worst kind of R&B, hip hop and buttrock) you've still got a mountain of exciting, fresh and groundbreaking bands just below the surface: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Black Midi, Beach House, Black Country New Road, Glass Animals, Death From Above 1979, Sleep Token, Ghost, Alvvays. I could go on forever.

That's just counting bands that were FORMED within the last 25 years, and there's plenty of bands and artists that produced fantastic albums before burning out like Refused, Kanye West, Brand New, Arcade Fire, The Mars Volta etc.

To top it off, there's plenty of genuine one hit wonder albums that pop up out of nowhere by bands that are never seen again like Hawaii Part 2

The issue is traction, the best band in the entire world might be releasing music right now and touring and you won't know about them for another 3-5 years until they have a breakthrough album.

Since we're music doxxxing each other you're now aware of the metal/edm infestation amongst you

The issue is that most things ever made ever were/are shit and only the good stuff gets remembered, same deal with everything from Victorian terraces to croissants that don't make the quality cut in the morning and get binned early, the problem in the modern day is the quantity and scale of it.

Good metal died decades ago, kept alive by Opeth. I wish Metallica would make more bluesy stuff. Their modern metal is fucking bald.

Do I get excommunicated for liking both Burzum and Blind Guardian? Because it's something I have to unrionically be crypto about because of all the seethe it causes. People can seem to accept either/or but never both.
