A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Fourth time father with his current wife Carrie, he has eight children in total, that we know about.
Thanks for the correction, Wales Online has said that the baby (Poppy Eliza Josephine Johnson) is their ninth:

Anyway, good luck to baby Poppy (she'll need it!)

Oh, as for the protests - well it's not just the Far Right who are gunning for Starmer and the Labour Party as 'Socialist Worker' types also join in the fun in Cardiff and Swansea:

According to Dan Wootton, Labour want to axe Talk TV:

Oh, and a 'Cai Wilshaw' has empathy for paedophiles...

Some sad news to report about Feargal Sharkey as well - the former Undertones singer and now environmental activist has prostate cancer:

After Khalid Mahmood pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, he…
For killing someone.
I will point out that this is, for a shocking rarity, not just a two-tier justice thing. Even drunk drivers rarely see jail after killing someone no matter their skin colour or sex.

Which might explain why my personal stance regarding that is that anyone who gets behind the wheel of a car pissed and murders someone gets their throat slit.

Whew, I used to be one of those people that insisted good music ended in the nineties, but I came though the kitchen today and Mardy Bum was playing on Absolute 00's on the radio. That's some good shit: "why can't we just laugh and joke around?". Aye, when did life get so complicated?

That came out 20 years ago for anyone still clinging to the illusion of perpetual youth. Sort your life out, ffs.

Edit:

@CWCissey, I don't know if you read every post in this thread, but I'm pretty sure you updated your age in your tagline to reflect Morrissey's age on his actual birthday, and I just want you to know - I appreciated it.

I think that most good music ended in the 2000s - Keane, Kaiser Chiefs, The Darkness, even Sum 41 and Blink 182 were well worth a listen.

Since then we've had nothing.

None of my favourite albums ever have even been from this century (though Permission To Land by The Darkness and Hopes And Fears by Keane are great IMO).

I'm going to boomer sperg here but here's my top 10:

1) A Night At The Opera (Queen)
2) Dark Side Of The Moon (Pink Floyd)
3) Never Mind The Bollocks (Sex Pistols)
4) Sticky Fingers (The Rolling Stones)
5) Led Zeppelin II (Led Zeppelin)
6) Masters Of Reality (Black Sabbath)
7) Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son (Iron Maiden)
8) Hysteria (Def Leppard)
9) Brothers In Arms (Dire Straits)
10) Hello! (Status Quo)

People may say 'oh well you're not giving modern music a chance', well name me any album of the 2000s onward which is as good as, if not better than, any of the above.

Honestly, the day a new band drops an album which blows my mind like any Queen, Pink Floyd etc. album then I'll say 'fine, this is bloody well amazing.' Until then...

That's a pretty sweet list. I would say Sabbath are criminally underrated, but I will insist on any top ten list including a Radiohead album, it can be the Bends or OK Computer,
(yes, those are your two options) I'm not gonna micromange, but it should be there.

...

Actually though, one Smiths album should also be on there too...

Some interesting times ahead, Starmer keeps attacking yet emboldening Reform taking TalkTV would just force them to go the YouTube route, and oh no they will make bank. It will just posh an online version of Pirate Radio like in the 70s.

As for Starmer he is pissing off everyone and everything, he thinks he is a dictator but thankfully there are things in place to prevent that. He purposefully installed a weak cabinet of no one's so no one could threaten him, but again ignores the VOTNC. because sacking cabinet ministers is a sure-fire way to initiate the process. I was quite surprised that so many Labour members did not support the Chagos deal and tbh the welfare stuff feels inconcequencal whenin fucking April you borrow 23 billion quid yet fucking harp on a loop about a 22 billion black hole.

This government is just schitzo because nothing makes sense in their policies.

That just goes to show how they were able to completely neuter GB News. It was they most centre of centre right operations ever but they still talked about it like was just showing The Triumph of the Will non-stop.

I’m hoping that this just TalkTV go even harder. This country needs Jeremy Kyle as much as it needs Greggs.

The tories and reform raked labour over the coals for cancelling the winter fuel payments.
When asked if they would bring back the winter fuel payments, both Cooni Woggendoch and Niggel farage said "No comment".

Yeah, they're not all in on it together.

Lifting the child benefit cap is weird for Reform and all it will do will make Mohammed and Dwayne have 50 kids each which they won't have to pay for,

Reform has no long-term plan or ability to follow up on anything meaningful. One of the reform counselors or mayors in Kent is making it her mission to remove the Ukrainian flag from some government building because, you know, that's really important.

I kinda see that as semi-important as only the Union Flag or the Cross of St George should be flying from public buildings in England. Plus the she/they whose job it is to coordinate which virtue signalling flag to fly is probably costing the council six figures a year to hire and that is they/them's only job aside from ordering rainbow lanyards.

My super schitzo theory is the only reason why Starmer chose to align with the EU is to exact similar measures to what Romania and Germany did and ban Reform labelling them as a far right Nazi group. It won't go down well at all and I think there would be significant unrest. On top of that, America would be very reactionary because of it happening in their sphere of influence. I know it sounds silly but Starmer is very reactionary and lacks any foresight. He acts like a child and is a compulsive liar.

There is some good news for Lucy Conelly, Rubio is aware of their case, and because the Trump administration is really pro-freedom of speech, this gives her a lot of ammo. Bitch does not deserve it.

Agreed. It's easy to say you're going to Make Britain Great Again and do all these wonderful policies to own the libs while you aren't in power. With any luck, Reform will be outed as charlatans when people look at the way they end up running their councils.

Look toward France, Germany and Romania for a hint about what happens when a populist and supposed 'far-right' party gets anywhere near the popular vote. If the uniparty can't stop them from winning votes, then they will stop your votes from counting.

We don't have the mechanisms for that unless they starting Minecrafting things. The BNP and the National Front weren't banned (although you will be barred from certain jobs like the police or being a prison officer if you were a member) and those guys were actually far right. Sinn Fein weren't banned and they were just a cover for the leadership of the IRA.

They start banning parties for being less to the right than the average guy you hear moaning in the pub the that's when we end up with a group of army offices delivering an the nine o'clock news to announce arrests.

We live in retarded times but not times which are that retarded.

They shut down pubs because of a cough.
You couldn't visit your elderly dying relatives in case they died.
You couldn't go to the funeral because the death would have been worse if you had covid.

Times of logic, sensibility and rationality have long since passed. As much as we joke about normies, they're no longer normal, or the norm. They are screen-addicted zombies who will do whatever the TV/Internet talking head tells them to do, on both sides of the aisle. I'll type up a sperg-post in the conspiracy thread later with more info.

Just like the invention of printed, movable type, we will never go back to the hand-penned letter.

You're just listing off Radio Head albums!
I am, yes. Problem?
lol. There are some good ones from 2000 onwards. Neon bible, vespertine, let England shake, funeral, stories from the city, mezzanine, odelay, drukqs. Reveal
Then there’s a lot that are almost great. Beck, fleet foxes, everything REM did after reveal, gorillaz, then ones that looked like they might be great but never panned out . arctic monkeys, vampire weekend neutral milk hotel. Plenty of interesting folk stuff the last 25 years for sure, I’m glad that’s had a revival but the great indie rock albums are predominantly 1986-2007 and that’s a fact.
Am completely open to new music suggestions!
