Man, Cardcapter Sakura was one of the few animes aired on british terrestrial TV over here that wasn't Pokemon.

Then 9/11 happened and they just stopped airing it. Not even kidding.

D: Holy shit, that's unfortunate.

Got a random question/concern, but this has been kinda bugging me: I want to start watching Kodocha, but I don't know if I should watch it dubbed or subbed?

Read through all of Aku No Hana.

It was nice. What started off as a rather disturbing look at two clearly disturbed middle schoolers changed into a rather touching story of a damaged boy trying to move on from his past and even finds love.

Kinda sad Seiki seemed to got off scot free though. She turned out to be a disgusting person.

Anyone here actually read "The Flowers of Evil"? Is it any good?

Welcome to the Universal Century. Enjoy your stay. The heavy handed anti-war message is basically UC's whole shtick. You better pull out now while you still can.

While X2 never quite reached the highs season 1 had in terms of animation and storytelling it's still pretty solid. You're in for a fun ride

As for me I'm 20 episodes into Cardcaptor Sakura and have been enjoying it. I can't say I'm really a shoujo/magical girl or CLAMP fan, but damn this series is fun, well animated(especially for a 70 episode series), cute without being too moe, and just plain comfy. Hopefully it can keep my interest for 50 more episodes + 2 movies because it's off to a good start.
I love CCS. There is some minor implied squick involving a teacher, but other than that it's pretty adorable.

There are like... four different instances with three different teachers throughout CCS, one's just more notable since the girl's still like ten and she has a marriage promise with her homeroom teacher. I don't blame Ocean/Nirvana for changing that up.

Sometimes things do get a little off-base like that!

The dub plays a bit fast and loose with translation, but not so much that it ruins anything. It's pretty good, but stops at episode 51 so you'll have switch to fansubs at that point.

It really just seems like the girl has a silly childhood crush. I would imagine the teacher is just entertaining it to not hurt her feelings, and hope she eventually grows out of it. Then again I could be wrong because I haven't finished the series yet.

'Dem's the breaks I guess.

I recall similar shows, usually sitcoms or cartoons where a kid might have a crush on a school teacher as well. Usually those stories are wrapped up by the episode's end and barely surface again.

Just started Kodocha. I wonder if this was dubbed before or around the same time as Fruits Basket, I'm honestly curious which show was Laura Bailey's first big role outside of Trunks. She sounds like she had a lot of fun playing Sana, it's that kind of enthusiasm I sadly don't hear very often in modern dubs.

Figured that's what was going to happen with that sad weekend it had. This quote though:

"Paramount apparently believes the whitewashing controversy and online backlash played a big role in Ghost’s low Rotten Tomatoes ratings score, which was posted in the days before its world premiere. The negative reviews may have contributed to turning audiences away."

How about it's because it's cyberpunk and cyberpunk hasn't been popular with audiences for years (or ever, Matrix was just lucky)? Typical of Hollywood to blame something that sane people didn't give a shit about and ignored.

I also found my new icon

Love it.

The only things I really think of in regards to Aku No Hana was
1. the head of Anime News Network throwing a fit because some podcast didn't like it
2. the DVD/Blurays were allegedly cancelled because they sold 50 copies at best.

While I don't read as much poetry as I used to, I do the morbid imagery and decandent symbolism of Boudelaire. A Carcass is a pretty interesting, if disturbing, read:

(love how the site has multiple English translations!)

For something less macabre here's The Albatross:

Yeah, the anime looked pretty awful to be honest. I can see where they were going with it, but damn does it look ugly.

True, cyberpunk doesn't have the popularity that it had back in the 80s/90s (AKIRA, Blade Runner). The visuals were still great though when I saw it. Speaking of AKIRA, the movie gave me a little hope in a movie based off said manga (but saying that is like saying Ghost was going to be successful).
Hollywood doesn't give a shit about us "normies". We're just "pigs that eat their shit" in their minds.
I bet this movie ended Johansson's marriage.

Thank you. I was inspired by Male Idiot's icon (both being literal robots with faces of supreme autism)

The thing about AKIRA is that it can't really bomb in theaters if the movie never gets made, which at this point is basically the definition of development hell.

It's a shame they don't like cyberpunk.
