Speaking of GitS, a new anime was recently announced. Both Kenji Kamiyama (Stand Alone Complex) and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed movies) will be on the project. If they get Yoko Kanno to return to compose the music, I'm 110% on the hype train.
Huh. I found their more recent efforts like Arise to be a large disappointment compared to Stand Alone Complex, so I'm not sure how I feel about this. Maybe they'll bring back the magic this time, but then again, maybe they won't.

Preparing myself for a shit ton of bad CGI, and Kamiyama trying way too hard to emulate Oshii's style. That or a rehash of SAC elements without bringing anything new to the table. I consider Arise to be the weakest entry in the franchise, but still found it fairly entertaining overall. My expectations for this are low, but hopefully something at least worthwhile will come out of it.

So, back end of the Spring Season, new shows are out.

I'm watching Sakura Quest and Clockwork Planet.

Quest was very enjoyable and a bit silly and twee if a tad formulaic but I think it's one I will stick with.

Clockwork Planet meanwhile, was a bit... odd? I feel like I know this world from somewhere but I'm not 100% sure.

Finished up the first season of Spice and Wolf the other day. Really great series. Didn't really expect to like it as much as I did, really- both Lawrence and Holo are incredibly entertaining characters, and the dialogue in the series was A+. Gonna check out the second season after watching another show or two.

I'm like halfway through Rage of Bahamut: Genesis. It's kinda hard to believe this is based on a mobile game, since it's surprisingly great. It's an incredibly fun series that'd fit right into a block like Toonami. Also has the most fucking rad OP i've heard in years, holy shit I hope Virgin Soul's OP is this dope.

So apparently there was a trailer dropped for that Pokémon movie that's going to do a retelling of Ash first getting Pikachu and their first adventure....only instead of Misty and Brock, it's now these two.

What surprised me is how the anime really captures the back and forth of Lawrence and Holo in the books as well. If you want to keep following the story after the second season, you'll want book 7 onwards.

Lol fuck that shit (and fuck my completionist ass, I suffered through 19 movies, I can suffer through another), I knew there was a catch to this movie. Unless this is like an alternate universe or something, I'm probably going to find this just as insulting as the 16th movie. Although the Pokémon movie trailers are infamous for being terribly misleading, so I doubt this is what the final product looks like.

But at least the fact Ho-oh will (most likely) get screwed over again will actually bring out the salt from Pokémon fans. Got that looking for it, I suppose.

It's too bad Al's going to be all CG, but at least he looks like himself. Shame, really.

Might as well also hop on the announcement train, too, and continue to gush over how beautiful the new Digimon Adventure tri poster looks while cursing Toei for not giving a release date.

The FMA movie is going to be like all the others, I don't even know why they bothered.
I'm actually really optimistic for the FMA live action movie. They're following the source material to the letter, the only difference they've made is that they're aging Ed from 15 to 20 (and I think Al too), which is basically for the reason of not trying to pass off a grown adult Japanese man as a teenager. The transmutation scene with the spear looks excellent, and overall I haven't seen anything immediately offensive about what they've shown.
The comment section is also pretty salty over characters in a land based on Europe are being played by Japanese actors.
Nah, fuck these people. America has only produced one good live action anime movie and it was Speed Racer. If it was being done by anyone other than the Japanese, they'd mess with the source material way too much.

True, I'm sure we won't hear the end of that for quite a while.

Nice!

Just watched the last episode of SAO Abridged season 1 on their Facebook (because YouTube copyright etc) and I am sincerely amazed they managed to take the train wreck of SAO's story and characters and make something much more entertaining and engaging, story-wise.

I'm really liking AoT season 2 so far. It might not be an intellectual juggernaut with deep, complex themes, but it's still every bit as exciting and occasionally terrifying as the first season. The music is still awesome, production values are high and the characters are still likable enough. It's also one of the rare cases where I prefer the anime adaptation over the manga. To me, the manga just feels too much like a draft for the animated series rather than an actual graphic novel that was meant to be enjoyed. In the Anime everything is so much more expressive.

I also started watching Burst Angel, an 2004 series I've never heard of. It look great even 12 years later, and I'm always a sucker for high-octane action eye candy with a fish-out-of-water protagonist. So far I'm liking it quite a bit.

Lastly, there's Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash. Usually I'm not a big fan of the who virtual reality\we're in an RPG kind of settings (with Hunter x Hunter's Greed Island arc and Konosuba being the only 2 examples I've liked so far), but damn! The first scene with the protagonists fighting against a single goblin was something else. I love how the show focuses on the poor critter being just another being trying to survive to the point where the protagonist feel bad for it as much as they are horrified by it, as well as on how taking a life is actually more unsettling than fun. In something like SAO the goblin would've been just another evil, emotionless mob rushing at Kirito amids a huge horde of baddies, only to be annihilated in an instance without a second thought. I'm definately watching this one till the end.

On a final note, there's something I really like about Japanese artists tackling superhero themes, such as Tiger and Bunny, One Punch Man or even My Hero Academia. Can you guys recommend some similarly good superhero manga\anime?

I liked Burst Angel up until the ending. Kinda ruined the series for me.
