20,000 emails were leaked from the Democratic National Committee.
The emails show that the DNC has been shilling for Hillary from the very start, including collusion between several media outlets (what a fucking surprise).
The current DNC chair is refusing to speak at the national convention after this.
Twitter has reportedly made attempts to censure the #DNCLeaks hashtag.
I thought this was a big enough thing to make a separate thread on, merge this with the general politic thread if it's not enough.

Normally I'd just laugh this off as yet another time people don't give a shit about Clinton Crime but this might go far to keep the Bernie fans from getting out to vote.
As far as I could tell many of them were more interested in the cool thing to do than specifically gave a shit about the democrats or anybody else, and this probably won't help them care more.

Most Bernie voters I know pretty much hate everybody in Washington. They'll stay home rather than vote for Clinton or Trump. They think both are repulsive people. Though if they do vote it stands to reason it's not going to be for Trump. Millennial progressives ain't exactly about to vote for a guy who seems like he came out of Guy Debord's nightmares.

That being said, none of this was a "crime", it was just sleazy and dishonest. The DNC basically used its influence to make Sanders look terrible and generally tried to lessen whatever influence he had in the party for Clinton's sake. It's not really surprising why either. Despite all the GOP propaganda the democrats are a center-right political party in practice. Especially the people high up in the DNC. They're all neoliberal types same as the republicans. Most of the major disagreements are about social issues and minor squabbles about taxes and foreign policy. They were afraid of a tea-party type scenario where political outsiders end up ousting longstanding party figures and end up crowding out the centrists and establishment types. Never mind political disagreements, Sanders and people like him are an actual threat to their reelection prospects. So of course it stands to reason the DNC wasn't exactly going to "feel the bern" anytime soon. And sure enough it was obvious who they wanted from day one. The DNC and their friends in the media (and lets make this clear, every political party has friends in the media, you don't get elected without them) treated the democratic primaries like (to quote Jon Stewart of all people) "a Bataan death march to a Clinton nomination".

If this was any other year all this internal bullshit wouldn't really be a big deal. Thing is it's happening in the midst of a period when many Americans are, frankly, sick of this shit. People don't trust the parties anymore and they don't believe in the legitimacy of these officials. When the democrats decided to arrogantly ignore that trend they chose to potentially fuck themselves over. If Trump wins in November it'll be because these idiots had no respect for the base of the party.

A third party winning an election has happened at least once before in US history, I think back in the election of 1912, where we had the Republicans led by Taft running their campaign, the Bull Moose Party led by Teddy Roosevelt running theirs, and then out of the blue some Democrat named Woodrow Wilson wins all the marbles - back in a time when the Democratic party was off on the sidelines after the mess of slavery. Of course, this was still during a time when the Democrats were the horribly racist, conservative party and the Republicans were the well-to-do progressives; consequently, Wilson was a flaming racist.

Johnson, though - largely unknown. The mess with the e-mails probably won't do much to scare off Hillary's supporters, who will likely resort to playing the "BUT SHE A WOMYN" card. What might happen now that the Democratic party has been revealed as - beyond reasonable doubt - corrupt at their political nominations, there will either be a partisan collapse or a split like in the 50s/60s with the Democrats and the Dixiecrats, but this time it's the Democrats behind Hillary and the Democratic-Socialists behind Bernie Sanders - the latter being a third party that still has a chance at the plurality of votes. Your link was seriously just them mentioning meetings with media people. That's meaningless by itself, every political campaign does that. You can't run for office and not interact with the media. I think people are seeing more in these emails than what actually exists in them. What actually exists in them is sleazy in that they were clearly exhibiting unethical bias towards one candidate. Other than that? Meh. Average politics. In fact I've yet to see any "revelation" here that is truly shocking. If you are shocked it's because you have no idea how our government actually works.

Also hate to break it to you, but Sanders was never ahead of Clinton in the polls. You need more than just the northeast to win a primary. He never really had much of a chance for a lot of reasons.

That being said, the DNC fucked themselves. If Trump wins it'll be their fault. You're right on that much. The democrats have chosen the worst candidate they could find and they fucked themselves in the ass as a result. People should vote against Trump, but the DNC's mistake is in assuming you could stab the progressive base in the back over and over again and still expect fear to motivate people to the polls. Sooner or later every population says "fuck it".

Trump by all accounts is at a serious disadvantage to Clinton. Financially, politically, demographically, he's got less than she does. All he has is the blind rage of Americas racist drunk uncles (which is substantial). The only reason he's gaining on her in the polls is because Clinton is such a straight up snake and the DNC seems to have little regard for its actual constituents. If she loses to the Trumpster fire she'll only have herself to blame. Because if that happens it means one thing: she couldn't make people give enough shits to actually go and vote.
