Hey, so I decided to go through the last few months of their photos and save any images that looked (in a glance, to my urbanite eyes) like neglect. Could someone who knows more about alpaca (and sheep) than I do give me a second opinion on these? Generally the troubling part is in the background, not the fore.

I'm not 100% sure what a healthy alpaca looks like, but I'm sure they don't look like this. Someone has said that when you just throw bales of hay into the herd the dominant alpacas will monopolize the feed and the weak ones will starve.

I guess I can rest a little easier when it’s just a plate of shredded cheese instead of a salad bowl. The eggs in the pad thai I had for lunch were less brown than those.

I sometimes make eggs while I am working from home and will let them overcook if I get distracted (work comes first), but they must've had them on some pretty high heat to brown them that badly.

I'm a retard for double posting I know, but that yarn looks like shit, look at how it's spun. It's uneven as fuck, lumpy, and it looks like it wasn't properly plyed together in places. Also of course it's bulky, whatever poor mill they got to spin their shitty wool probably can't spin anything finer / actually usable from the wool they were given.

The money in small batch alpaca yarn like this is in sock and lace weight yarns, not bulky yarns. They'd know that if any of them actually had any background in fiber.

I know if I were a fibre miller I wouldnt want my name on that shit, maybe they only agreed to actually spin the yarn in that sorry state (maybe the tranch refused to pay extra for extra scouring). But it does raise questions. I wonder if the miller wanted their name taken off this subpar product because of that...

If the mill had severed ties with them I think that we would see transphobia posts, not what we saw as I doubt they have the forebearance to avoid souring relationships with the only 30 alpaca fleece mills in the country. But it would explain why they got a shipment 3 months early.

Does fleece length have any connection to what thickness of yarn it can be spun into? That could explain the choice of thicker yarns.

The ranch is so infuriating when they post pictures of open field saying “look they have loads of room”. Idiots it’s the garage we have a problem with. As far as we know the alpacas are still stored in what can only be described in the garage overnight.
Granted during the summer this isn’t a huge issue because you can just take them outright maybe let them sleep outside but during the winter it’s honestly like WW2 footage of POWs being sent to camps.

As far as the tufts of grass, i have a sneaking suspicion the fact that it hasn’t been eaten yet means the alpacas don’t eat it, maybe it’s not editable.

Phil 100% took those photos just because it is literally the greenest their land has looked since they moved in. Those plants are probably all the sort of weed that grows in a matter of days when the conditions are good, so those alpaca probably have just a week or two to graze at them before they either wither or all get stomped/eaten. That’s assuming these plants are tasty/nutritious to alpacas, which is not a given as these are Colorado desert weeds and alpacas are from Peru (much like Bonnie’s grandparents). Still, if the property was like this for half the year they’d be ok, but again this is absolute peak growing season for them. Also, lol at them showing off the hay they just bought, as if our argument is that they literally never have any feed. The problem is that it likely isn’t enough and poor quality, and most importantly instead of putting it in a fucking feeder they throw it on the ground for the animals to shit on and fight over. Are they just leaving those bales outside? TBH I’m not convinced they know the difference between hay and straw. And of course the animals are not physically crowded together while outside, but a) the carrying capacity of that land is a fraction of the livestock they have and b) the animals ARE extremely crowded at night. They are expected to sleep with a few sq ft each in a tiny, uninsulated, windowless shed (which based on the state of their house probably rarely gets cleaned). Perhaps worst of all is that I’ve never seen evidence of veterinary care for the livestock. They didn’t know the females were pregnant until they gave birth. As @Surfin Terf brought up above, THEY STILL HAVEN’T DOCKED THE LAMBS TAILS. This may not be the horrible abuse that can actually get animal control involved, but the tranchers are negligent at best.
