After decades of relegating its LGBTQ characters to the sidelines, Marvel really turned things around with America and Iceman, its first two ongoing series featuring queer characters as their titular leads. Both books have been important additions to Marvel’s ever-expanding portfolio, but it seems as if the time has come for at least one of them to end. March’s comics solicitations are out this week and a number of titles including America are conspicuously missing, which heavily implies that the titles have been canceled. This afternoon, Marvel editor Heather Antos confirmed that Gwenpool, another title missing from the March solicits, was definitely canceled, further suggesting that any titles missing from the lineup as of today are done for.

All this stuff about Heather Antos ... what's the skinny on her supposedly being hired for her looks? Because the Diversity in Comics guy and Cap'n Cummings both put the blame for that on an editor named Jordan D. White, and ... well, I knew him pretty well back in the day.

I got stories about him, dawg.

Remember where you are and spill it.

The basic concern with Ms. Antos, is she seems to be a low to mid tier administrative staffer, a new hire who’s likeness was suddenly being used for a new flagship comic character by the creepy editor who hired her. She was further being used and pushed forward by previous EiC Axel Alonso as some sort of cute perky diversity flag waving harrasement magnet in order to be a rallying point to go after the fans. She is a rabid hateful and extremely prolific Social Media SJW including apparently being deeply involved in schemes to dox, harass, get fired, and in one spectacular case actually physically assault one of the YouTube comic critics that dare criticize them.

I can’t quite put it into words, but just looking at the s Gwenpool book raises all sorts of red flags. Knowing the character is basically loving fanfiction, a love letter being penned at one of the companies administrative staff ( she’s an Assistant Editor. It’s a Secreterial position to be frank.) it just seems wildly inappropriate. If I was the new EiC coming in I would be asking some major questions. Not the least of which is “who’s fucking who in that office?” It’s a sign of a toxic and wildly unprofessional work environment. How does something like that get past editorial review or legal to get published? The new flagship book and character was creepy fan art about a newly hired secretary! No possible negative legal consequences there...

Thing is I feel there could be room for fat/ugly/whatever super hero but it'd require far cleverer and far far more nuanced writing and ability than any of the cack handed writing that seems to be currently abound within the realm of writers and such within Marvel and possibly even within DC.

Making them an anti-hero of some sort would also be a bit of a boon.

Oh. Wait. Marvel has one of those but he's a constant and long running joke.

Ya know. Wade Wilson, aka fucking Deadpool.

The sad thing is once upon a time Dan Slott was actually capable of this. Go back always and read his Great Lakes Avengers. And realize that it is nothing that the modern Slott Blcotavius could ever hope to achieve.

I'm perfectly fine with characters that break the mold differently in certain cases, whether they be fat or ugly. The main problem are the people trying to turn this into the norm, where no one can be pretty or beautiful, everyone needs to look like a godawful troglodyte or else someone's feelings will get hurt.

Remember, if it's a fat Jew like Harvey Weinstein, it's absolute, utter rape when people fuck to get a job.

If you're woke SJWs, though, it's totally fine to suck dick to get ahead.

I want to hear what these allegations are first -- I can find nothing online about them beyond some oblique references to them in C&D and Cap. Cummings.

I will say he was a passive-aggressive attention-seeking jagoff who affected all kinds of weirdness to seem "different." Seeing him with a fucking handlebar mustache was not at all surprising.
I agree about wanting a source for that, D&C hasn't really answered any emails I sent him but it's on his channel if you want to try to ask.

As much of a push there is for "real women," women like seeing pretty women too. Harley Quinn, Elsa, Sailor Moon, heck even Barbie...all are gorgeous blondes who are extremely popular with ADULT women.
Disney initially dropped the ball on Frozen merchandise, one likely reason being they pushed Brave and Merida merchandise for months and months that didn't do so well and didn't want to repeat that. Merida is not really a looker. I've noticed that in the years since Brave came out, they've gradually given Merida more makeup, made her taller and more elegant, and made her hair a darker auburn and longer and more luxurious instead of an unruly mop like it's supposed to be. This initially caused some backlash with the usual suspects but I think they have moved that direction anyway. In fact they do this with all the princesses; Rapunzel at the parks has her long hair, and they tell little girls she had just enough magic to grow her long blonde hair back. The new Tangled series has Rapunzel growing her hair back. People just don't want to see Rapunzel with a plain brown bob, even though everyone on earth is 99.99% closer to looking like that.
Progressive groups push for plain/ugly/fat/"realistic" female characters all they want but when it comes down to it, people DON'T BUY THEM.

Heck, this even works with the Marvel comics. Marvel is pushing hard for the diversity superheroines to be liked (Thorina, fat Squirrel Girl, trainwreck America Chavez, inshallah Ms Marvel), yet of all the new "affirmative action" heroines, only Spider-Gwen took off in massive popularity amidst fans. The pretty, blonde and blue-eyed girl who likes music, who wears a very feminine costume, and who is linked by her name to a beautiful, fashionable character of the Silver Age who was mostly associated with romantic stories in her hay-day (being Peter Parker's girlfriend, and her taboo affair with the villain of the story, Norman Osborn of all people!). Maybe it's an unconscious decision, but there's something in Gwen, old and new, that attracts people.

Maybe people do like beautiful, romantic characters and see them as proper escapism. It doesn't mean they're bad people, but there's a reason why some beauty standards have stood the test of time over others.

Of course they don't care if the stuff is supposed to be for them or not. They seem to feel personally failed if they don't like something, instead of it just being that everyone can't like everything all the time. Normal people see stuff they don't like and ignore it in favor of stuff they do like. Shit stirrers see something they don't like, decide they've been personally let down and get insulted and angry that the creators didn't make it appeal to them more because everything should be all about them all the time.
Disney probably realized they needed to make some changes to move more Merida toys and decided to fall back on the age old wisdom with decades of evidence that people like pretty princesses. People who already weren't buying Brave merchandise threw a shitfit. Of course the next pretty blonde princess, to the shock of nobody who pays attention, is extremely popular. Related
People also don't even know what they want. They say they want something, either just because they think they want it or to virtue signal, but when push comes to shove they don't actually fork out money for what they said they wanted.

Reminds me of the Moana debate. People were complaining about how racist and sexist Disney is, and then Disney went and bowed to the SJWs, giving them the movie with the strong brown female lead who don't need no man...And a year later and nobody remembers Moana, yet people still talk about Elsa.

I mean, I remember Moana, but only cause of The Rock.

Before Christmas I had to watch my 2 year old niece for a couple of days, and when she got to my place all she talked about was moana and how much she wanted me to put it on. I didn't have moana, but I did have a copy of frozen, which was the big movie the last time I watched someone's toddler, so I put that on. She now sings let it go constantly and refuses to watch moana.

It's not even because they don't buy x thing in general. What people say they want and what they actually buy are very different, which is something I thought marketers knew, but in the last few years they seemed to have forgotten that and started listening to shit stirrers on twitter instead.

You want people to accept ugly/fat/realistic characters? Make 95% of the population achingly beautiful. People like what they can't have. They'll get bored of looking at each other in 50 years and want something different. Old, fat, ugly, disgusting. NEETs will become the new hunks.

Hahah, I'm just fucking with you. Nobody wants fat or ugly characters to look at. If the world was 95% beautiful, you'd still only see beautiful characters. Because nobody wants that shit. Characters with crazy features, but still beautiful would be popular.

Heck, this even works with the Marvel comics. You mean the people who draw romance novel covers DON'T put Fabio with a fat, aging dumpy, old woman on their covers!? WHY DON'T THEY SELL GOD, WHY DON- Oh, wait, they do.

Nobody likes looking at fat and ugly people. Not even fat and ugly people. They may SAY they want this, but they just want the attention. They don't actually really want this and when they get it, it reminds them of how fucking ugly and fat they are. Nobody wants to fantasize about being themselves. Not even beautiful celebrities want to be themselves, which is why they act. And ugly people do not want to fantasize about themselves being ugly. Not even if they're with a pretty person. They WANT to be pretty with the pretty person. That's why the middle-aged, ugly housewife buys the romance novel and imagines herself as the beautiful woman on the cover. Mind you, this is for fantastical, pop-culture stuff, not art. Art is where people go to think, maybe sometimes fantasize. Here your characters can be ugly, or fat or not pretty, but they serve some purpose. The purpose of entertainment is to escape this fucking nightmare of existence. And people do not want to escape in the bodies of ugly people.

The truth of the matter is Social Justice and Political Correctness are just the modern version of Victorian ideals of disavowing human truths with a bit of a twist. Ugly human truths. That all people like beautiful people. That nobody is attracted to fat people. That fair skin is considered more beautiful, even in cultures not exposed to fair skin, is more beautiful than dark skin. That men and women are human and both can be cruel in the same and different ways. That sexuality and romance is natural and beautiful, sometimes dangerous, which is part of what makes it alluring. That all humans given the advantage of whites, would have been equally murderous and cruel. That skin color does not make one more innocent or guilty.

I find the case with comics, especially Marvel, to be extremely fascinating. You can see this ideology distilled into the purest form. Characters are basically sexless and romanceless. They are tumblrites in words and actions. They give these people EVERYTHING they ask for. Pointless diverse characters, characters with different sexuality, trans characters, fat characters, ugly characters....and nobody wants it, not even them. Because at the end of the day, we're all filthy fucking humans. No matter how hard they try to deny it.

This is pretty much Marvel's strategy: "Why make comics with good art and writing? Let's just piss off our fanbase instead!"

This is like hiring waiters who openly spit on your food and then wondering why your restaurant isn't popular any more.

She also took a job from two WoC. Erica Henderson is literally White Washing the creative Team of Squirrel Girl.

(That's one of the reasons why I'm sad to see Gwenpool go, since Gurihuri was on the art. Alas, I only bought digital as there isn't a comic book store in 50 miles of where I live and I don't think Digital Sales count. But then you got digital only titles like Batman '66 doing gangbusters.)

Dear lord is that bad.
EDIT: seems I was beaten to it but, I profess this looks like shit.

Who the fuck even wants to look at shit this ugly, disgusting, and just literally retarded looking? Apparently not many.

That's also interesting to consider. Aside from the gay stereotypes, most of these tumblr-approved characters are pretty much single by default. Thorina, Squirrel Girl, Ms Marvel...Are all suspiciously devoid of romance in their stories.

I'm late to the party on this one. This is the one blissful saving grace of the SJW infestation. They don't understand how propaganda works, or the true power in it. Of course SJW's don't buy America Chavez, it's preaching to the converted. They turned Marvel Comics into a ham fisted indoctrination educational, and that's why they failed. If they kept their cards closer to their chest, and were less preachy, they could have Integrated, and changed the comic zeitgeist over time. However, they used extremists who only understand power, and not the application of it, to write these things. It turns out that the Overton Window is subject to Newton's third law, which is what we've been seeing with the outcry, and are now seeing the end result of.

I think its a bit worse then that. Skilled propagandists are skilled because they know what they are pushing is total bullshit. Knowing you are polishing a turd is the first step in crafting good propaganda. The rest of just hitting all the right psychological triggers to get people to accept the bullshit. The people making these comics do not believe there work to be bullshit in any way. They are the vanguard of "true" culture. What they have created is not a polished turd that they are trying to get people to accept. Its truth and purity. They simply cannot understand why anyone would fail to see what is so obvious to them. How these comics are amazing and finally depict the world how it really is. At least according to the perceptions of a crazy far lefty SJW ideologue.

Which is why they default to accusing everyone who does not like them as being racist, misogynist or other such stuff. You would have to be all those things in order to not appreciate the amazing artistry of their comics. The problem is nobody outside their little ideological echo chamber see's the world the way they do. As a constant struggle between the oppressed and the oppressors. They expect a white man to read their comic and reflect on how his whiteness and maleness makes him an oppressor to poor lesbian America Chavez, and that maybe he should internalize this knowledge somehow. What happens instead is the white dude has an insanely negative reaction to being stereotyped. Then there is the problem of depicting heroes as oppressed groups. It is there in the title SUPER Hero.

The idea of an oppressed super hero is absurd. If anything, these super humans would be the oppressors. Concepts old non-SJW comics explored in the Injustice saga or the Watchmen comics. Nobody wants to hear about how oppressed a Super Hero is, yet in SJW land there is nobility and power in being oppressed. You see it in their blog posts and comments, where they are constantly arguing about which group is more oppressed or marginalized then others. It is a total perversion of power dynamics as people usually see it. The most oppressed group in their little cult gets to hold the most power over it. I think centuries from now anthropologists will find these freaks a fascinating study.

Some have been in relationships though. They had Jane Foster have a completely nonsensical relationship with the Falcon that looked like it only happened to piss off the "right people" IRL and Ms. Marvel does have a pseudo-love interest before she got cucked by some blue haired fat lady (Honestly the most unrealistic thing in that story) followed by her being kinda paired with Miles Morales (and got cucked by yet another girl). None of them last long outside an issue or two.

A shapeshifter like Kamala getting cucked so often isn't a good sign. lol
