A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

To play the devil's advocate, doesn't Labour still hold a theoretical huge majority in Commons? They could simply choose a new PM (if they could agree on one).
They could. The issue is they’ve got nobody. Nobody wants to drink from Starmer’s poisoned chalice and everyone saw what happened when the conservatives did that when they had a majority.

I think this recognising a Palestinian state farce is a human rights lawyers last arrogant rebellion.
He originally (actually as a backtrack) said he’d only do it if Hamas releases hostages and steps down.
But he’s now pushing it through (cowardly hoping it to be secret until after Trump leaves, but no the ship is leaky)
Imagine how flooded we are going to be with Palestinian asylum cases after. That the human rights lawyers can give to his friends. Even the French frog has backed off on this.. whilst his own government is in pieces.

As a side note. Allegedly Starmers been scrambling to make sure questions are extra vetted today during the Trump press conference. Hope someone embarrasses him anyway. Can’t wait for the retards that will go “but Elon musk far right!! Rally”

Edit: wait holy shit they’ve already had some event for it during the Trump visit by Lucy Powell

Edit2: French twitter is now saying Macron backtracked yet again and is joining the recognition. Looks like Starmer phoned a friend hahahaha.

Like @6MillionCoofs said they got no one.

Rayner could've replaced him, and it feels like she was being built up to. Shadow minister under Corbyn, outsized presence in the media despite her relative newness to politics, occupying a nothing-role in government that'd protect her from being responsible for anything controversial but sound important enough to big her up (the position has been renamed 4 times from its original). It almost felt like the "leaks" regarding her opposition to Reeves' budget was meant to ingratiate her to the Corbynites/Lefties and secure her enough MP votes to make candidacy in a leadership election.

She would've had an easy schtick to lean into, one with more appeal than Keir's retarded, "My dad made tools," bit. Single mother, bipolar mum, disabled son, unionist care worker, "muh NHS" – the candidate who many people would probably feel was "Just like me" and would appeal to Leftist sensibilities even if she ultimately just followed the Neoliberal line like Starmer. But then it came out she owned multiple houses, avoided paying tax on the buying of her latest house, and used her son's trust fund to finance the purchase.

With Rayner gone they're left with a handful of no-names or figures whose brief media appearances were relating to something unpopular or because they did a bad job of it. Lammy's Chagos deal; Reeves's budget and crying in parliament; Cooper's attempts (or lack thereof) to fix immigration and proscribing Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation; Mahmood's blatant attempt at enacting a 2-tier ministerial code; Liz Kendell's attempt to cut bennies; Powell suggesting cuts to winter fuel payments and downplaying rape gangs.

Every noteworthy member of Starmer's cabinet became so for fucking up; Rayner would've been a shoo-in otherwise for party leader.

Regardless, they need to replace her first before Starmer can step down. Technically he could do so early, but then the NEC would get to pick a temporary leader, and considering the body is weighed in favour of unions and socialists, it'd probably be more detrimental to Labour if the NEC were allowed to pick someone who'd risk causing further PR fuckups in the interim, especially when it comes to immigration. If he does resign the earliest he'll do it is after the deputy leader is chosen on the 25th of October, I reckon. That's If he does resign. After the party will truly cement itself as a zombie party like the Conservatives.

To replace Starmer, in my opinion you've got:
(1) Ed Miliband. Prominent but is also a Blairite Jew who probably isn't liked by the hard Left of the party for being apart of Labour Friends of Israel and has been rather mum on the issue of Israel/Palestine. I can see him cinching enough votes to qualify for the leadership contest but I don't know if unions and socialists will go for him. He's also been friendly with the idea of Blue Labour in the past.

(2) Jess Phillips. Obnoxious feminist but according to Yougov's ranking of most popular Labour politicians she's the only one in the top 10 who holds an MP seat and doesn't have conflicting obligations (life peer or mayor). She's also a Labour Friends of Israel member so that muddies her prospects with the hard Left a little. She's also not a fan of trannies but considering their unpopularity even amongst Labour voters it probably wouldn't hurt her chances.

(3) Andy Burnham. Big sticking point is that he'd have to announce and then run in a by-election for a Commons seat as mayor, win, vacate his mayoral position to run for party leader (assuming enough MPs back him), then win the election after. Burnham in theory has enough going for him that he could pivot to being a "strong" figure based on his track record with policing in Manchester but otherwise there's too much risk involved in trying to get him into the right position to qualify for party leader. There's also no guarantee that he'd be replaced by a Labour member he could just be giving his position away to Reform. People in Labour want him to run and he appeals to both Blairites and Corbynites politically speaking so he'd be a stabilising figure of sorts.

(4) Angela Rayner. Lmao, I know, but it's possible in the same way some Tories are trying to bring back Boris. People in Burnham's camp think they can revive Rayner and essentially use her as a proxy for Burnham, who probably won't vacate his mayoral seat and would run for leadership in 2028 at the earliest when he's served his full time as mayor. Anyway, Rayner would appeal to "the North" as well as promise gibs, like Burnham, so assuming people don't understand or care for why she was made to resign in the first place and MPs see her as the only means to combat Farage, she could maybe win a leadership contest on grounds of pragmatism but it's unlikely..

(5) Wes Streeting. Feels like he'd have the most everyman appeal. Talked tough regarding badly run hospitals and voted against the assisted dying bill, and was also opposed to Corbyn's brand of insanity politics-wise. However he also came out in defence of Mandelson which would be extremely easy to use against him from the opposition and might have other MPs consider him electoral poison. He's a member of the Fabian society and it recently came out his perceived anti-trans actions were performative so like Rayner his prospects were pretty much sunk over the past two weeks.

TLDR: Labour are fucked and Starmer might end up remaining where he is because there's nobody else of note or with a clean enough reputation to replace him. Maybe he'll resign in 2028 assuming there's some avenue for Burnham to take his place, or whoever becomes deputy PM builds up enough of a reputation to be considered viable.

We're already getting flooded with them mate and the activist branch have been abusing student visas globally to recruit idiots and cause trouble.

Starmer must have forgot who funds the labour party. His hooked nose wife might try reminding him.

This morning, Your Party launched a membership portal with an annual fee of £55. That isn't the story. The story now is that Corbyn and the other Islamists have published a letter (https://xcancel.com/jeremycorbyn/status/1968663293314097545) stating that the website/portal was launched without authorisation, that anyone who signed up should cancel their direct debits, and that 'legal advice is being taken'.

Sultana has not signed the letter and had earlier posted a Xeet claiming that 20,000 people had signed up. So the simple conclusion appears to be that she either jumped the gun or has attempted to defraud the mailing list.

Oh god this is gold. Who would’ve thought this would be a total mess. She’s just posted a response. When all else fails… it’s because I’m a woman!!!

The Muslim party has said they don't want gender equality and blocked women being put in positions of power. It's beautiful.
Clown World always surprises.

Speaking of which, Mason Humberstone, formerly of the Labour Party, has defected to Reform UK!

Also, this is comedy gold:

This shows that the UK proves soft power still works for influence, no matter the political part. We know how to show pom and pageantry, the UK and US will never not be allies. I am suspect of the A.I investment. I'm not familiar with A.I, coding-etc. So for those in that field, can you provide your honest opinions? Will it really benefit you, your community and county.

there needs to be some positivity in this thread

We wouldn't trust the government to push the start button on a McDonald Kiosk let alone be a serious tech investor. All that money is going straight into "start ups" that never go any where and never had a purpose. Probably owned by a mates son.

Donald Trump in a presser calls for Kier Starmer to deploy the UK military to stop the boat invaders.

Now will he actually do it or will it just end up being the UK military ferrying them here instead?

As much as I hate the boat scroungers, the real issue is the sheer amount of legal immigration and we could really solve the illegal issue in a week by just telling them they're all going back and that HMS 2 will be using the British channel as target practise for our navy.
Good on Trump. I imagine Starmer will instead off free ferry rides to the UK from France instead. He couldn't do anything Trump suggested, he'd be a Nazi!

Isn't that inevitable west account ran by an Indian?

It could be even funnier than that, the way it's being phrased makes me think they've already suffered a data breach.

Has Sultana been SAAAAR'd?

I wish kier a slow but inevitable fall from grace, perhaps with a side of stress-related ulcer. I DO hope all the skeletons in the closet are brought out, especially any role in the Rwandan stabbers family being here and whatever lord ali and the Ukrainian arsonists were retaliating for
Did I miss anything last week?
