A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Saw some football hooligans fighting in the train station before, some young drunk lad threw a punch at a older man and knocked him back, though it didn't seem to bruise him and he just walked off afterward. There were a brown rail worker shouting across from another platform that the police were coming. Also saw some guy walking along bleeding from the side of his head while I'd stopped for coffee.
So London on the average day?

I think Restore will win Makersfield quite comfortably; my reasons are somewhat connected to the locals.;
  1. So I think this will be the core reason for victory. In polling after the Reform voters said they voted for Reform because no other alternative was LISTED. Key word listed.
  2. Makersfield is overwhelmingly white, 96% they voted Leave, Reform did well. Their demographic if largely middle aged not boomers, and 49% male and 51% female.
  3. Ground game, Restore have a really good ground game, Reform don't. One of their key complaints is that they poorly mobolize.
  4. Farage and the 5 million affecting his popularity. Even Reform people do not like voting for Farage. On top of that I have the feeling they will put Zia Yusef in this seat. Let them, he will get pummeled along with Burnham. Reform keep putting up the wrong candidates and never learn. If they run Zia it will fuck them over so bad.

I still think it's a little early for them to win, but it's certainly good practice considering they've not tried for a general seat yet. So long as they don't lose morale by being completely vaporized it's still worth running just to see where they actually lie- and provided things don't break down beforehand gives them more time to use that when it comes to the GE in a couple of years.

I don't really like Reform, but Labour losing to them is probably the most entertaining option that's also possible.

All in all I think this guy's right. The Britbong elites want something to happen, be it a riot so they can finally crack down once and for all on those evil British nazi's or rather more insidiously they want to push the "populism" even farther for some other reason, He speculates the elites want to push populism to the front to gain control and direct it towards their goals rather then allow it to just spontaneously spring out nowhere and outside of their control.
There was already an awareness that Starmer and his muzzie allies were going to insert some Britbong Ray Epps types in the crowds:

There was probably at least one guy at the Nuremberg rally who was like "Oh for sheisse's sake, I just wanted to post these letters. What are these massive crowds?"
That was pretty much exactly the scenario I was in.

Might give some solace that the usual shell game gypsies or whatever on the bridge were nowhere to be found because there were police everywhere.

I also overheard that supposedly there were "only 11 arrests" so I'm curious to see if that ends up being true tomorrow
Kier's going to be devastated.

Not related, but to avoid double post. This is apparently who the UK selected to announce the Eurovision jury results:

Terry Pratchett was pretty good on werewolves, as was the BBCs 'Being Human'. George was my favorite character.
George was great. I should really watch that show, I haven't seen it since the original run.
I miss how great the BBC used to be. Sure most of the good stuff got shunted off the 3 or even 4 usually, but they put out good shows.
Imagine how great a modern The Thick Of It would be if Iannucci refused to pull punches.

God damn, Joanna Lumley’s let herself go.

For all the hysteria on social media and the tellybox about evil far right marchers about to smash up the entirety of central London, by the sounds of it absolutely fuck all happened. Be interesting to find out whether the ‘Hope Not H8’ side had any arrests too, and whether the FA Cup final garnered more trouble in the city.

Look, we’ve survived an FA Cup final, the march of Hitler’s new hordes, and Eurovision, all in one 12-hour stint. Relax. At this point you could basically march green-skinned hordes of human slavery merchants to take over, and the U.K. would just shrug and go back to scrolling Facebook. Feels like both sides of the political divide really want things to kick off, but the reality is that people aren’t bovvered. Which is for the best, because when they are, it ain’t pretty.

Who won Eurovision and why didn’t we enter this masterpiece instead of whatever vacuous shit that we did?

People did complain a lot, in fact. East euro immigration pushed down wages, especially in the building trade, and created little slavic colonies all over the country that became gang havens and crime hotspots. EU withdrawal demands went into overdrive in 2014, because the EU changed the definition of free movement of workers in 2011 to allow people to move speculatively rather than after securing employment, meaning they could come here and immediately claim benefits, and because the 2005 limitation on free movement of workers from Bulgaria and Romania had expired in 2012. The result was that we were being flooded with thousands of romanians looking for work and getting on the dole in the meantime, sucking up resources and housing and completely changing the character of communities almost overnight, in addition to "workers" from other parts of the Union who saw us as a soft touch.

It really puts the lie to the idea that anti-immigration rhetoric is driven by racism, when exactly the same arguments were used against white europeans as are used now against indians other mass migrant groups. Exactly the same arguments would be used if 2 million swedes decided to decamp here and took over whole towns. The problem is, we're ignored when we demand change, and the government's control over the dissemination of information is so total that it took absolutely catastrophic events to show people who wanted immigrants gone that they weren't an isolated minority.
I had a European guy I know mock the UK to me while we were discussing Brexit, saying the guys wanting out due to immigrants had traded out Poles for Bangladeshis.

And yeah, I do remember seeing talk about the Poles and Romanians prior to Brexit, tons of complaints about them living four to a bedroom and the like that wouldn't be out of place when it comes to various breeds of shitskin.

I remember when the Polish 'hordes' were the worst thing happening to the UK. Personally all the Poles I met who had moved to the UK we're really nice blokes, very hardworking and altogether just good guys. Not saying that I thoroughly agree with allowing them in so willy-nilly, just saying I would prefer to choose the form of my destructor.

The awful thing about getting old is looking back and seeing how good we had it, at least compared to the modern day CBT the government puts us through.

The Polish influx was an issue that sucked both ways.

It sucked for us because, while the Polish were hard workers, The companies hiring them were paying dogshit wages, because even that was better than anything they would be paid back home. I worked at a supermarket located near one of the big fruit and veg distributors that was hiring them. They would buy out all the supermarket value brand cheap items, packs of ramen, the occasional polish treat, once our store started importing for them & they would *always* buy a big honking bottle of vodka on their weekly shop.

Tho they def would do some five finger discounts in the store, usually on a “bonus” bottle of vodka. There was a polish store in my village that got busted for running a brothel as well.

For Poland - the economy sucked so hard that nobody wanted to stay and the majority of young men went to work elsewhere. I’ll never understand how encouraging almost all the young citizens to leave the country was supposed to “fix” it.

Romanian Gypsies do suck, however. They would end up in the Fens and in Essex and they would park their caravans in public parks, trash them, steal locals things, get into fight and also get into long legal battles with the local councils trying to get them to piss off.

I’ll never understand why the Conservatives didn’t make an effort to stop the migrant flow when they were already being draconian about Covid.

Unless they're outright abandoning it, the aim is to get money from remittances. Take the money being made in a better paying country you are working in and send it back to family members in the homeland to stimulate the economy there.
