A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It's the anti-Trump bandwagon, given the trans lot refuse not to be the centre of attention some of them have realised that they are not a helpful ally.

Also note the carefully branded "stand up to racism" placards. Always point them out to friends and family. Make it clear that this is not a grass-roots movement but a well-funded organisation with ties to the current government, tax-payer's money and a leader who lied about an acid attack by white people on a Muslim woman.

The gap between the people and the elites is grown so wide that they are not just out of touch, but are impossible to even see. With the rise of doing most business online and scouring twitter for 'vote-winning' ideas, I wonder how often the common MP even sees a working class British person.

This country is literally more corrupt and retarded than many developing nations now. At least there the politicians make a semblance of doing their jobs, THEN they take backhanders. And you actually have to be competent to get into position in the first fucking place.

If someone like Peter Kyle does become PM (let's be honest, all of Labour are on the same level,) that'll be galactic levels of fake, gay, cringe, and faggot.

MacSweeney is going to be sacked on Friday to avoid as much headline space as possible. He will only get Saturday and Sunday, then Starmer can spin a new initiative. The insider account of Starmer screaming, "You're supposed to be protecting me!" Makes him sound like DSP and will never not be funny to me. Powell is most likely to win the deputy position, too, meaning he has a war on 5 fronts: Economy, Far Left, Blairites, The Public, and Reform. Any decision you make will instantly get scrutiny and hold it too, because there are too many opponents. This is like Wilson on steroids.

100% bang on the money.

After the Conference, I am expecting Starmer to call an early GE if he feels that he cannot get his way.

Latest we can have one is December 18th meaning it'd be called on November 5th, unless Starmer opts for a five week purdah (which he can) and goes for a shorter campaign period and calls it on November 12th.

I suspect that a vote on the Budget will go ahead late in the night of either November 4th or 11th and, when it fails to pass, Starmer will then have no choice - if he is still PM.
 
Yeah, that budget is not going to be agreed on, shit. I think we will start seeing ministers leaving anytime soon. They will when they hear that a GE is going to be called. He does not have the mental capacity to not say it like Sunak, who told no one at all.

It will be the following: Streeting, Philipson, Cooper, Moomin, Lammy. They will be in relatively quick succession, too, because they're all in areas that they could lose. Moomin is Bham, but the city is in such a state currently that they will oust her.

We will essentially have no government for 2 months, which will unironically be more harm than good. Reform will really hammer their rhetoric, though.
 
To play the devil's advocate, doesn't Labour still hold a theoretical huge majority in Commons? They could simply choose a new PM (if they could agree on one).
