I'm sure I can guess the answer, but is there actually anything approximating an intended release date for this project yet? Because there are elementary school students who weren't conceived yet when Star Citizen was announced.

LOL no. They even keep pushing back the dates on scheduled patches. Shits insane.

Reality is that it will spend it's entire life cycle in some form of testing phase or another because of gross mismanagement, they make smart choices from time to time, but then those choices will be setback by a decision made on a whim by the CEO or his wife. It's like what I've seen in a lot of small businesses over the years, but with much bigger dollar amounts and way crazier supporters

I've been following this drama for years and I think it's the only thread at SA I still follow.

Both sides are autistic as fuck, but the Star Citizen fans are hilarious. Despite five years of failure with literally nothing except a buggy mish-mash of garbage, they're still convinced that the game is going great and will be done "soon" (alternately, some people just say "YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR GREAT THINGS!").

Their cognitive dissonance regarding Star Citizen is fantastic, and literally daily you can can go into /r/StarCitizen and find people defending the inevitable greatness of this game on the flimsiest of reasons (typically: Chris made a decent game once 25 years ago, so Star Citizen will be amazing). Every patch introduces more bugs than it fixes, and there's been a shitload of drama surrounding some of the biggest backers (one of the biggest SC backers is a literal sex offender who has sent unsolicited pictures of his dick to females in the RSI forums*), and the company that prides itself on "open development" is every bit as closed as Blizzard. Oh, also, there's almost certainly financial fraud being committed to some degree.

This is the greatest trainwreck in the history of gaming. This makes Daikatana look like a blip on the radar. DNF doesn't even begin to compare to this. There will be books written about this.

If you've missed this drama, you've really missed out and I recommend catching up because it's fuckin' worth it.

It's coming about the same time as Half-Life 3.

This shit is still going on? Its really obvious this project is never going to come out. Like, glaringly obvious. The people who fund this project to this day are fucking mentally handicapped, fundamentally brain-damaged autists who send Roberts their disability money every month.

I used to follow this, but there is only so much mental illness I can take. The amount of shit Roberts pulled, you have to be autistic and mentally handicapped to actually put a dollar into this thing. And that's pretty much all that's left funding this. People with mental illnesses playing a fake video game in their head.

Ahh, to be an Elite Dangerous beta backer. I remember it well. 30 May 2014, loading up my Sidewinder into Azeban City for the first time on the premium beta. The received wisdom then was that E:D was only going to be a temporary stopgap until Star Shitizen came out and crushed all competition forever.

It's nearly three years since I first flew in E:D and Chris Roberts's oeuvre is still only trugging along a bit at a time and is nowhere near finished. Meanwhile, E:D has not only released, but has had a whole new expansion pack since then, the number of available ships has increased from 20 to about 35, first contact with an alien species has been made, and general quality of life improvements (in particular the overhauls to the mission system which at launch was dire) have come down the spike.

Yeah, there's loads of complaining and salt about it, most recently over canon character Salomé getting murdered by the biggest troll in the player base this weekend (I was tempted to do a Salt Mine thread about it) but complaining and salt and, shall we say, spirited discussions, are a sign of a healthy player base because you can't please everyone all the time. Also internet spaceships really brings out the autism in people - I for one am quite aghast that the procedural generation engine occasionally throws up impossibilities like ocean planets with no atmosphere and a sub-zero surface temperature, or neutron stars with earth-like worlds about them too far out in the galactic rim to be any sort of extrasolar capture - so complaining and salt is par for the course.

Meanwhile, what has Star Citizen done? Sold more massively overpriced future horse-armour tier DLC, and had constant inquisitions about those darn dirty Elite Dangerous players on its fora, and on which failure to asspat is grounds for immediate b&.

I've got about 250 hours in Elite Dangerous. It has a lot of flaws. A LOT of flaws. However, it tries to do a certain thing, and it does that certain thing pretty well.

However, there's no real point comparing it to Star Citizen in any way, because Elite exists and SC doesn't, and no matter how bad you think Elite is, you can't deny that it exists and you can play it right now.

Motherships and fighters in space behaving like some maritime aircraft carrier/jet fighter combo, nope nope nope.

I know this isn't this thread's point, but still...!

Chris Roberts' thing has always been "WW2 in space". This is a stylistic choice in pretty much every game he's ever made, and I'm pretty sure at some point he's even said "yeah, this isn't what space combat will really be like".

I can and will fault him for a lot of things, but not this one, because he's doing what he's doing on purpose, and I think it works from a gameplay perspective.

It's trendy for people to say "Well, Wing Commander wasn't that good anyway" but in 1990? It really really was. I sure as shit won't defend Star Citizen or 2017 Chris Roberts, but I'll defend the Wing Commander franchise (up to Privateer 2/Prophecy) because I think they were all legitimately fun and good games.

Edit: And yes, Tie Fighter was better.

Edit 2: And also yes, I'm autistic about Wing Commander.

And it's forgivable in every other unrealistic space opera too, because we all get that space doesn't work that way but who gives a shit, it's just for fun. The only time I don't want to forgive it is when some creator gets up their own ass about how "scientifically accurate" their IP is, like the Mass Effect series. (Sure, you have a giant codex about what kinds of elements would really form on planets based on the metallicity of their parent stars, good for you. Now please tell me more about the realism of an alien species that look just like humans except they're all blue-skinned supermodel bisexual women who want to have sex with you just because they sense what an awesome personality you have.)

A little OT maybe, but it still blows my fucking mind how active WCNews still is after 20 goddamned years. The franchise was still being made when the site went up, and its userbase are still dedicated to the franchise they love. Once in a while I'll poke my head in and just read about the fun space fighter sim I loved as a kid.

Ben Lesnick works on Star Citizen now (so it's really not off-topic) and he's a real piece of work. Not only is he disgustingly fat, so fat that he was on a Japanese TV show with his equally fat wife who also works on Star Citizen, but he also makes jokes about raping children and shit. And he's community manager, which he's horrible at and enables his weird fetishist shitty community.

I don't have a link to the video of the Japanese TV show (it's somewhere in one of the SA Star Citizen threads) but here's Ben and his wife.

They've gotten fatter since then

To be fair, Alexis is supposed to be a very nice person. Ben is human garbage, though.

Edit: His current thing is that he's working on saving the forgettable mediocre Wing Commander cartoon through a GoFundMe

Jesus H. Tittyfucking Christ. Imagine that pair on the job. Can she even find her happy slot under that gunt? And I'm surprised his knob isn't irretrievably engulfed by his fatrolls.

Worth mentioning, Sandy, the co-CEO and wife of Chris Roberts, constantly brings in junk food to them, even while they're dieting. Such a bitch, but anything that shortens Ben's lifespan can't be all bad so w/e

You mean Sandi, the former softcore tickle porn actress?

For those of you out of the loop, Sandi's the one in this picture that's not Ben.

maxresdefault.jpg

She's an aspiring actress who, no shit, used to do softcore tickle porn. Since then, her main accomplishments have been acting in web series and literally being billed above Gillian Anderson in Star Citizen. Nice to be fucking the boss, eh? She also has barely hidden contempt for literally everyone she works with at CIG, and everyone supposedly more or less feels the same about her.

Edit: Sorry for the resolution, this is the best picture I could find without scouring SA and I'm too lazy to do that.

Sandi's second-row, first column. People listed below C-list actress Sandi in the cast order:
Gillian Anderson
Liam Cunningham
Andy Serkis
Rhona Mitra
John Rhys Davies
