Unstable sleep schedule is actually one of the major indicators of mental illness, and it perpetuates it as well. Structure promotes responsibility and normalcy. When you're up at all hours it fucks up your ability to function during the day which then makes you feel worse because you get nothing done.Do you guys know any stable individual in your lives who has five school aged kids and stays up until 3-5 am every night of the week at minimum? Have you ever heard of any stable individual ever doing that in the history of humanity? Even without a job this is a direct indicator that a person is abusing substances or is having a severe psychological break or both. Nobody grounded to reality does this.
Granted, what I'm describing is more about depression - people who struggle with discipline because things feel hopeless. Nick seems to just be having a complete psychotic separation from reality. People with depression usually subconsciously want their hopelessness to be proven wrong. Nick revels in the fact that his life is destroyed and unfixable. He thinks he's a cool 'chaos' archetype but the irony is that such characters usually come from broken backgrounds. Nick had literally everything prior to torching it. Pointless self-inmolation.
