Isnt there enough awful city circuits?
They sure don't think so. Don't forget they're still pushing for a NYC street race.

As I posted earlier the 2026 engine regs will push them to more street type circuits over traditional track circuits otherwise they'll be doing 1 push lap and 2 recharge laps the entire GP.

And it's not like these women have additional challenges, let's face it, if you were a woman who could come anywhere close to a Latifi you'd be in an F1 car in no time, the sponsors would eat that shit up.
If F1 can’t find another male driver to take up the role of designated yellow flagger, a female driver would be funny as hell imo.
E-sports, well, that's it's own disaster zone, but I think there might be something.

Motor sports, I don't know if we have that down to a science. We know what makes for a good lifter or football player, even a little bit for Chess, but for motorsports, do we know what makes for a good driver?
I think one common difference here is reaction time for both. Men are just so slightly faster and that can make a lot of difference in e-sports (time to kill in shooters is typically milliseconds) and would definitely affect motor sports as well. Physical attributes matter a lot more in motorsports however. But even in the most reaction time reliant form of motorsports which is less physically demanding (drag racing), there are very few women who have competed.

Very scenario dependent. Can be zero if its a gun with instakill criteria, but typically 100-350.

In the case of Esports, reaction times can be very misleading because of prefires and guess shots. Obviously a sloth won't make it big in CS but in a lot of scenarios, correctly reading the enemy's set up and countering it will will yield better results than simply reacting faster.

My theory is that at some point, below a certain threshold, reaction time won't contribute much to winning.

This is the future of racing, or at least the one Liberty wants. Bad street circuits in cities that should never have them in the first place.

Most American cities are built on grids, which makes them horrible for racing. The original Detroit layout was bad, the Chicago race was bad (despite all the Nascar shills defending it to the death), the original Las Vegas race was bad and in a parking lot, etc. Somehow, Indycar still managed to pull one off, which I am absolutely shocked by.

Thing is, I find the comparison with female drivers to be potentially quite interesting. Would women physically be worse at racing than men? Obviously F1 drivers are athletes, but in very specific ways, and being lighter is always a plus, so they might actually be very good at it potentially.

Problem is that there are no women that can compete, and while there aren't, you can try to polish that turd all you want but it's not going to work. Putting them in series with men is just going to emphasize that fact and lose women drivers any respect they may have. And it's not like these women have additional challenges, let's face it, if you were a woman who could come anywhere close to a Latifi you'd be in an F1 car in no time, the sponsors would eat that shit up.

Anyone who can trade fours with the cream of motor racing talent, while steering clear of Lance Stroll, should be welcome in F1. My concern is that measures are taken to mitigate the physical demands on drivers, in order to make the sport more accessible to women. By the day, Liberty Media are slowly remodelling F1 into a lifestyle brand - an unholy fusion of Mario Kart and M&Ms World. That needs to stop. My proposal - to only accept drivers with genuine duelling scars - would do a lot to weed out the whingers and paid-for drives, while bolstering meritocracy, and opening the sport to a much-need influx of stoic bad-asses. Also a pseudo gangster is needed at the helm. This corporate style of leadership is not working.

On paper, the Las Vegas circuit looks dreadful. As it stands, the only thing that can save the weekend is the potential for some foolishness or other from Russell Greer.

Would be amazing if Russ found a reason to sue F1 for causing him trauma lumps and not letting him become famous or something. He should be given a seat really, he's disabled. Think it's less likely since they got rid of the pitgirls.

Someone told me it looks like a dead pig and I will never be able to unsee it. Kind of fitting too.
To be fair, it looks slightly less shit than the Caesars Palace parking lot circuit did.

Yes technically this track is a triumph by Las Vegas race standards. I wonder if Checo might do alright on it, turns 5, 9, 12 in particular look like they might be pretty good for him, and pretty important for the lap. He always does really well accelerating out of those 90 degree ish, or otherwise street-sharp corners, like in Baku. Hard to say until they're there, but if he gets his confidence back and stops trying to be Max who knows.

Would Clark County even commit to such a track this huge?

What is the pseudo Death Star monstrosity at Turn Eight? the track appears to go in and out of it.
It's the Sphere, it's a venue for all sorts of events, concerts, sports, etc. They can project things on the outside, and the inside is basically covered in LED screens. Don't think it's actually in use yet though. I will neither confirm or deny if it's a Death Star under construction disguised as a venue.

And the track is supposed to go around it, not through it. Around turn 8 and 9. https://www.f1lasvegasgp.com/track-layout Has a video showing a car going round the track where it shows up like a big blue shining anal bead.

That is The Sphere™, located at the Venetian. Its a huge stadium for concerts and sportsball but at night the whole thing is a massive 2.3 Billion dollar screen to advertise bullshit at you. Sometimes they light it up like the earth or the moon.

Tangentalliy related, Alex Palou is having a contract disagreements agin. He's trying to get out of McLaren's for the upcomming season(s) and I can't blame him, unless someone poaches either Lando or Pisatri there is no F1 seat there for a while. He's already received an advance on the McLaren contract so would have to pay it back.

I'm late, but I was at IMS, I have an excuse, teacher.

I can't believe they lopped the only 'good' part of the track off Detroit and we still had a decent race. Still pourin' one out for Belle Isle.

That race this year is the most fun I've had at a race ever due to a quirk of parking. The paid parking garage is ungodly expensive but that means it's not overbought and you can just sit there and tailgate all weekend long with the cars running right under you and the pits out front. It's arguably better than the sponsor box seating.

Notably, Chip Ganassi, who DOES NOT EVER TALK ABOUT CONTRACTS spoke up and basically called Zak a nigger over Palou's contract in a press release. You have to know Chip to understand how deeply the man had to be pissed off for that.

I am fairly certain the entire Indycar paddock is pissed at Zak trying to hire every good driver in the field with 'hey I have F1 seats and maybe they're youuuuuuurrrrssss' then rugpulling them.

On the other hand either Alex or his management team(s) - he just fired the latest one - are total retards for making him look like he doesn't keep his word.

Since we're on the Indy subject, more news. Jack Harvey, best known for taking podium cars to 20th place with Team RLL, has officially been fired.
