  • Yeah, I think it's about that time

  • No, the franchise is dead.

  • NO, A FOLLOWUP WHERE LARA PREACHES BOUT SLAY QUEEN DEFEATING EVIL ORANGE MAN

  • who cares, square enix killed another franchise

The issue with current Lara is that she's way too survivalist type. Gets startled easily and emotional. I like Camilla too but Lara is just.....too young.

She should be badass one liner confident type. She's not even nathan drake level because she's too young.

Survivalist Lara is fine but they should have dropped the emotional stuff at the end of the first game when she's became Rambo.

hahaha, look who's throwing the reboot under the bus because nobody read the shitty reboot comics :story:

Did Rhianna just admit she's not a fan of her own writing?
I actually didn't mind the dad story in Rise because Richard at least felt like an actual person (because he totally wasn't based on Terry).

Fuck off, Gail

Reminder that a woman named Vicky Arnold was a lead story writer for TR2 who designed classic Lara's biography, yet the ho above gets credit for inventing Lara simply because she had a famous dad. "Didn't have full control" my ass, you sure had no problem getting awards for best writing that Rise received for some reason.
Oh look, 2 attention whores fighting on Twitter. One is an old cat lady who is only known for a controversy she started so she could become unfirable in the comics industry, the other one is the daughter of a great author.

They're both cat ladies arguing about dumb bullshit anyway, they're like early-to-mid 90s west coast gangsta rappers spitting at each other.

so remember this game?

welp, turns out it was a complete scam. I've been following the drama for the past couple of days, tl;dr the dev ripped off a bunch of TRLE modders, admitted to it but posted the game for sale anyway, they got hella pissed and review-bombed his ass, so the game was pulled, yadda-yadda who gives the shit about those useless faggots??? The real problem is the game is another typical one-man "early access" bullshit that will probably take years to be finished and ofc it's fucking Unity, so expect nothing but poor optimization and ton of bugs (and holy shit, collision is worth than in Underworld). And the worst thing is the dev posting the most retarded nonsensical "apology" which is just him pointing fingers and whining about people being mean to him. Yeah, the community is gay and autistic but you have to be absolutely retarded trying to profit of them. I would gladly pay for a TR-clone, even a buggy one, but not for a 15-minute early access TRLE assets I can get for free. #RIP

Square Enix sells off Tomb Raider, Deus Ex IPs and the studios behind them

Square Enix is selling off Western studios Eidos, Crystal Dynamics, and Square Enix Montreal, as well as the franchises those studios develop, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and Thief, to Embracer Group, the companies announced Monday. The $300 million deal will give Embracer Group ownership of more than 50 back-catalog games from Square Enix’s library and will affect 1,100 employees across three studios. Sweden-based Embracer already owns publishing and development studios Gearbox Software, THQ Nordic, Saber Interactive, Koch Media, Deep Silver, and Coffee Stain Studios. Embracer has also expanded beyond video games to acquire comic book publisher Dark Horse and tabletop game publisher Asmodee. Embracer will have more than 14,000 employees, 10,000 game developers, and 124 internal studios, when the deal with Square Enix closes.

Square Enix says the sale of its studios and IP will establish “a more efficient allocation of resources” and enable “the launch of new businesses by moving forward with investments in fields including blockchain, AI, and the cloud.” In a news release announcing the sale, Embracer said it was “impressed by the studios’ rich portfolio of original IP,” namely Tomb Raider and Deus Ex (which have sold a combined 100 million units), and saw “compelling opportunities to organically grow the studios to maximize their commercial opportunities.” Embracer said it sees opportunity to invest in the aforementioned IP, as well as Legacy of Kain, Thief, “and other original franchises.”

Crystal Dynamics announced in March it was working on a new entry in the Tomb Raider franchise, built in Unreal Engine 5, a follow-up to 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Crystal Dynamics is also assisting on the development of the new Perfect Dark for Xbox Game Studios. Perfect Dark developer The Initiative says it will continue to work with Crystal Dynamics on the game. Deus Ex and Thief developer Eidos Montreal most recently released Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and Crystal Dynamics’ most recently released Marvel’s Avengers. Neither Marvel-owned property was mentioned in Embracer’s announcement of the sale. Square Enix Montreal, the studio behind the mobile Go spinoffs based on Tomb Raider, Hitman, and Deus Ex, most recently released Hitman Sniper: The Shadows for Android and iOS devices. Embracer said Square Enix Montreal would “continue to develop and operate memorable mobile games based on AAA IP.”

Just what we needed.....more monopolization of the vidya industry. (:_(
Whoever buys Tomb Raider, make Lara Croft an older woman chronicling on her adventures a la Uncharted 4.

Turns out that, in addition to Embracer buying Crystal and Eidos IPs, Saudi Arabia also happened to purchase Embracer as well, and that is not long after they purchased Nintendo, mind you.
ALLAHU ACKBAR, LARABROS.

SNK is far smaller than Nintendo, and was foreign owned by a Chinese company before this. So, they may actually be better off under Saudi control, as weird as that sounds.
Yeah. The Saudis have no issues catering to Western, Christian, infidel, etc. decadence so long as it pays well.

Plus, does anyone think the land of oil sheiks and boat parties is going to give the world unattractive women? They hire all those Victoria's Secret models because they're tired of being unable to tell their own women from camels due to how ugly they are.

>implying they hire their own women and not some infidels to shit on, get fucked by pigs and shove a fish up an old dude's ass...

I'm continuing my playthrough of the soy raider games, about 4 hours into Rise. Its literally the same game as 2013, gameplay is overall OK but its still not a Tomb Raider game. The level of hand holding is actually kind of offensive. I bitched about this in another thread but its never not obvious where to go in these games because they are already extremely linear so why are there white highlights on every ledged you can jump on and this gay x-ray vision? It really takes you out of the game too. Like who the fuck was in this ancient tomb before me splashing white paint everywhere?

This stuff is in every game now it seems like and I can only assume its devs trying to idiot proof games so normies don't complain. I played Plague Tale a little while ago and enjoyed the game for the most part but again, its ostensibly an adventure/puzzle game but every "puzzle" has white ribbons tied to the exact bits you need to interact with. Ugh.

Anyway, back to soy raider, the story and characters are pretty bad, so far not as cringe as 2013 but I would expect better from a big budget game in the modern era. Its cute that they are trying to be serious but the level of writing is straight out of a Saturday morning cartoon and its actually a little sad.

There's been some leaks - apparently the next game will have a lesbian (or maybe bisexual) Lara who 'struggles with loneliness' and has a 'team of tomb raiders inspired by her'.
Absolute dogshit :story:
(It's already being deleted by Crystal across the Internet but there are twitter threads/leaks there).

Source link? I'm unfortunately unsurprised, but please provide the source link. Also, I might rename the thread as the grieving thread (this is something I should've thought of in a long time).

I'd reply with a link but the Twitter thread has been deleted on Crystal's request - Melanie Mac's twitter page has a tonne of her discussing it & tomb raider forums had a thread but it also got deleted :(
Unless they scrap it, I think they'll make an announcement for it soon.
https://twitter.com/notaxation/status/1553058421980766210 - it all started because of this tweet, which has a patreon podcast discussing the leaks. Sorry for no more sources! :( I'm a mobile fag

That's understandable.

This handholding, idiot-proofing is happening across most vidya genres from what I can see. A shame. Playing Plague Tale right now and I enjoy the characters and the story is neat but it's extremely easy. The only challenge comes from some of the trickier stealth bits and some of the forced combat against one-shot enemies.

I have a soft spot for Tomb Raider because it was the first console game I owned but I am not a fan of the direction the games headed in. I don't mind the Uncharted-like gameplay or tone, but the actual writing/characters are atrocious. Lara becomes legitimately unlikeable in Shadow which was supposed to be the point I think but it was done poorly.

With these leaks and the unified timeline rumors I keep seeing, I wouldn’t put it past the writers to do something stupid like revealing the team of tomb raiders are actually the previous incarnations of Lara.

it's easier to design this way. tbh I rather follow some on-screen marker than trying to figure out some obtuse puzzle or hints some tranny devs thought "clever".

it's great when it pays off, but since it usually doesn't I rather not waste my time.

>bought by embracer in may
I'm gonna wait and see, embracer for now was usually smart enough to give their customers what they want, and looking at the sales (which were never good to begin with) there's still hope.
