It sounds pretty much like SARS in that it's knocking off people with underlying conditions, and everyone else recovers. Probably everyone with a sniffle hurling themselves at packed hospitals isn't going to cut down the rate of transmission though.

God, the hysteria on reddit is .. well, hysterical. You'd think an asteroid were heading for the continental USA right now. An asteroid made of sick Chinese with bubonic superAIDS you can catch from a dirty look. Guess people really need their daily dose of 'everything's fucked'.

Oh a brighter note, it's distracted them from whining about Orange Man and Muh Climate Emergency for a bit.

What are the facts about the 25 victims? Are we talking old peope, the sickly and kids or are we talking people in their prime because that's typically the clencher with eperdemics.

Prof Cosford told the BBC "we will not be surprised" if people return from China to the UK with the infection, which can cause lung problems such as pneumonia.

"I think it's highly likely that we will have cases in the UK - and of course every so often we do get new infections coming from the animal kingdom such as this one."

He added: "These are early days yet with this virus. The vast majority of people who are infected do seem to be getting better.

In China, people traditionally ate anything that moved (and if it didn't move they pushed it and then ate it) because it's all protein and you could not be picky. Cina's history of famine deaths is insane. Dogs, snakes, insects, all grist to the hungry. In the 90s I knew a Japanese guy who was sent out to visit some far-flung factory that was manufacturing for some Japanese company and he complained to me all they got for breakfast at this plant was fried scorpions. In Africa, same issue. Thing is, after a point, this stuff sort of stops being eaten from necessity and becomes a prized 'traditional' delicacy or a belief develops through magical thinking that is has super-special magic health powers or will cure your droopy dick, which is why Chinese are stupid barbarian cunts who kill tigers for their bones. West African disapora have a bad habit of importing their shitty delicacy 'bush meat' into the UK to sell to each other for that delightful taste of putrifying bushrat they can't get at Tescos. There's a big concern that one day we'll get an ebola or other haemorrhagic fever outbreak due to some dumb African bitch selling an imported diseased monkey carcass to her people under the counter at some shitty London market. People, if you need the taste of home that bad, stay there.

Chinese are the absolute worst for dragging meat and other foods that can carry infections about abroad, under some impression that foreign foods will kill them and they need to carry their larder with them. Customs from Dubai to Auckland to London reglarly catches Chinese with suitcases packed with raw meat and fuck knows what which they've felt the need to pack instead of clothes.

It's said that SARS originated from less than a dozen supercarriers who were the main culprit. This newer one is very different, it's said to be a lot more infectious but not as deadly.

It's potentially lethal to children and the elderly as well.

I don't think the avg person genuinely believes it's an immediate threat, it's mainly worrying that China appears to be covering up how big it was right before a major holiday where many people will be packed together and traveling from all around the world. Again, given that nearly all of our information about it comes from China (and there seems to be evidence of duplicity) it's hard to know how readily transmittable it is and how lethal. I heard of at least one case of a super-spreader.

It occurred in a densely populated area and there were many explosions... there's no fucking way that it was just a hundred dead. The plant had way more chemicals than the regulations allowed, and was owned by an official's family member. Not surprising they would want to keep it on the DL. We should wait for other countries & experts to weigh in on the pathology of the virus instead of just taking whatever China says at face-value.

As I said earlier in the thread, I was living in a SARS hotzone in 2003, my job was affected for a while by the lockdown to control the issue and when I watched western media report on it, it was frankly worrying, the disparity between what they reported and what the actual situation was - it was actually my first real red pill or whatever about the media, experiencing a story from the inside. They hyped up the FEAR and DANGER to orders of magnitude beyond what anyone in the actual place was really feeling. I was going about my business without fear and I'd turn on BBC and see some reporter standing somewhere I'd BEEN that day, acting like it was Romero on steroids out there and we were all hysterical with fear and afraid to leave our home because DEATH was stalking the streets with a scythe. It almost had me questoning my own reality. PRC is always going to be weird with info and the western media doesn't really help by developing the story for maximum fear clicks.

I was correcting you because you said it's only knocking off people with pre-existing conditions, which isn't true.

No one is really developing the story, in western media or otherwise. most of them just reported whatever chinese officials were claiming and the evidence that things are worse than the chinese government is letting on comes from people living in china taking videos around the affected areas. I suspect it's because they don't want to cause panic or dissuade tourism for the Chinese New Years celebration. It's important to show that the Chinese gvt is lying, so people don't think they're fine to stand around in huge crowds contracting and mutating the virus to bring back home. dead kids suck no matter how you spin it.
