I see things are slowing down a bit around here. That's probably a good thing.
I'll just give a bit of news.
I tried to book a slot with Tesco to, you know, buy some food, but no dice. No home deliveries for 3 weeks - try again later.
Thankfully, my folks are crips, so they saved me a slot. I get to make out an order, send it to them, they get it delivered. All above board.
One slight problem, or maybe two slight problems.
You can't save your grocery order as html and send it. Or rather, you can, but it gets deleted by their god damned McAfee anti-virus.
And of course, them being old boomers, they don't even know how to disable it. The stupid stupid cunts. This is after paying 50 bucks a year for it. Too much money. Think of the protection.
So I had to send my order as text. But the thing is, fucking Tesco add things to your order, whether you like it or not and you can not extricate it from the web page without serious debugging. Any html programmer will let you know that html is a serious bitch to debug.
So I sent it through, but alarm bells started ringing when I had fucking pounds of fucking mince meat on there - I'm a veggie - how do you know? - I just told you!
Turns out my 40 quid minimum order (to allay the delivery price) was now a fucking 70 quid delivery order. The dirty little Tesco cunts.
Yeah yeah, get different parents. Nuke the cancer that is McAfee, but after paying 50 bucks a year fear subscription, it's not that easy. I just cancelled in the end. They were pretty good about it. I spent about 3 hours doing this order (everything was out of stock), and they spent an hour or two putting it through (plus all the other stuff that I didn't order that they added on).
You can't save an order as a text file, it's a full blown cancerous html web page.
So, never mind, a few hours out of our life that we will never get back. I sent my step dad a 20 quid amazon voucher for his troubles. He's a trooper. We don't get along. We don't even like each other that much. But he lost a front tooth last night eating a meal. He has late stage heart failure. He was also crippled in a fall and is consigned to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. The sunny days have been hard for him. The last thing he needed was to know he fucked up a basic shopping order. So I shouted him a little token of my good will. Mum has to look after him. Both Cancer survivors.
Fuck fucking Tesco, fuck fucking McAfee A/V.
Anyway.
I've been indoors for weeks and weeks. Nothing unusual for me. But when I went out to the shop they had more stocks but they had this one way system and were locking people out even more than before. One person on the till. I really don't get it.
I honestly thought shit would have blown over by now but this is serious fam. Seriously serious biznezz.
Shops aren't opening up, those that are talk about 'supply chain' issues. My mum confirmed this. Everything is fucking out.
And we have not even yet hit the 'second wave' - by that I mean - the great re-opening of society that will inevitably lead to more infections (because shit is real - I get that), and more than that again, the serious damage done in this fire sale dumpster dive duplicitous game play; destroying otherwise healthy businesses.
They know what they are doing.
Right?
The game is more than the player of the game.
And the ship is more than the crew.
Bit of Kipling there for you philistines.
I don't know what the fuck is going on, but neither do they.
Anyway, no food for me from Tescos. Lost order there. Good job I have stockpiled for eventualities like this. I got enough food for six months just about.
Besides, local shops are open, and even my paranoia-mongering local co-op said that they are looking to be opening back up to an 11pm close (as opposed to an 8pm close) in the next few weeks. Got a fruit and veg shop open there too, so all good.
I was glad I stocked up when I could. If I had not I would be in serious trouble.
Things WILL return to normal at some point. And no, it won't be the old NORMAL. Too much damage done.
But still, keep stocked up while you can - this shit is not over by a long country mile. The cure is worse than the disease. All that.
Do your best. It'll be good enough. And that's all you need.
