Kinda like Scott Adams said about Engineers: "Engineers like to solve problems. If there are no problems handily available, they will create their own problems."Heart 100% in the right place. Message 100% for the wrong crowd.
We're autists. If we aren't given things to sperg about, we'll go looking for them or, failing even that, invent them ourselves.
...and more information (because I'm REALLY trying to make this at least MOSTLY an information thread)
Maryland went on 'lockdown' (officially Shelter-In-Place) on 31-March or 1-April (sources say both). No expiration for this order was given.
Tips if you got shit-canned, 'furloughed': (my advice, ignore at your leisure)
-Take a FULL SEVEN DAYS OFF for you - and no one else. Be a selfish prick for 7 days. Expect others to tend to your needs. You are hurt and scared. Heal and allow others to serve you. Limit this to SEVEN DAYS. If you have nobody, well that sucks.
-Hit the job boards HARD afterwards. Competition is now roughly TEN TIMES WORSE than 3 months ago. It sucks.
-Don't forget about newspapers. At least give them a glance.
-Worst days on the job boards are Friday and Monday. 3 day weekends are fine
-Bothering companies in person (after the quarantine) leaves a strong impression. YMMV. Doesn't work for coding jobs, works good for Wal-Mart or factory jobs.
-Send out resumes to agencies. Consider gig or contract work. You have Corona insurance for at least 6 months in the US-federally funded.
-DO NOT PAY for 'Premium Memberships' or Pay Agencies. Always a scam.
