I will admit that my husband and I used to live feed one of our ball pythons, but that was because she would not eat pre-killed. She had a bad respiratory infection when she was younger and stopped eating for several months, losing a LOT of weight. When she recovered, we had to get the weight back on her any way we could, which meant feeding her live. After she got nice and plump again, we worked very hard to get her back on pre-killed. I HATED feeding live, but it was the only way she would eat.
So sometimes live feeding is necessary, but it's rare, and it has to be done very, very carefully. If you want a real horror show, try looking up some of the injuries feeder mice and rats have done to snakes; a trapped mice or rat will fight back, and that can result in a dead or severely wounded snake. When we were live feeding our ball python, we never left her with the mouse unsupervised, and took the mouse out if she hadn't eaten it within five minutes. Boaman and his family are, of course, doing it completely wrong, and I'd be shocked if they haven't had to deal with injuries to their animals.
