Oh, reptiles attract all kinds of lolcows, usually in the form of ultra-macho assholes who want to show off their testosterone by brandishing massive pythons and/or lizards. They often get into breeding, brag about their collections (which are usually far, far bigger than they can properly afford to support), and delight in using their animals to scare people.

It's sad, because it's fairly easy for people to get away with this shit when it comes to reptiles. Reptiles are quiet, live in boxes, don't advertise their distress in any obvious way, and most people don't know enough about them to judge if an animal's unhealthy. The thing is, when you do fuck up by taking on a reptile that's more than you can handle, you pay for it. I recall the story of some dickhole in Australia who kept a 20 foot reticulated python, didn't feed it often enough, and liked to get it out of its enclosure while he was drunk, generally to impress his girlfriend. Shock of all shocks, one day the hungry snake had enough and literally strangled the fucker.

The sheer amount of douchebros I have met in this hobby is staggering.
 
When I was still active, I mainly kept to myself (I mainly keep to myself in all aspects of things, but in the herp hobby in particular I only really communicated with people in PM on forums,) mostly because the few times I attempted integration, I got a lot of flak for it. I’d posted a picture of my boa realigning her jaw after feeding and was told I should have her taken away because her jaw was messed up and clearly I was abusing her. (Despite that picture being the last in an album of her eating a jumbo rat.) I was also told that because I’m a girl, I should probably stick to smaller snakes instead of pythons, (not like ball pythons are huge, but I digress,) you know, snakes a girl can handle without a man present ... or something.

Yeah, I know about that, I have seen people basically scream at kids who ask basic questions or make minor husbandry mistakes. General "You are killing your animals and the hobby!" followed by "Why aren't there any new people joining the hobby?"

I'm surprised he's not a fan of Obama. Isn't he at the heart of some sort of lizard man conspiracy (admittedly, I'm pretty sure every American president is at the heart of some kind of lizard man conspiracy).
