Despite it flaws, GUN was pretty fucking good and worth playing through once.
Only game I know about where you can scalp people, too.Had fun with Gun back in the day. Played through it the summer before the RDR came out to tide me over till its release.
Shame the first Red Dead Redemption never got a pc port.
Gun was based as hell. It even got in trouble for having missions that revolved around killing native Americans. But Activision and Neversoft had the balls to tell those groups to piss off and were uncompromising in their vision. I wish devs had that kind of grit nowadays.Only game I know about where you can scalp people, too.
I can still hear them yellin "Leave a little on the top!"Only game I know about where you can scalp people, too.
And like Red Dead Revolver, also got a PC port. I'm sure you Kiwis can find ways to play it. It is indeed quite fun. If you do all the side quest stuff prior to finishing the game you get a really sweet gun... shame there's nothing left to use it on though.Despite it flaws, GUN was pretty fucking good and worth playing through once.
Yeah, they totally botched the chance for a singleplayer DLC. The R* that made Undead Nightmare a full on storyline full of mystical shit is dead. Nowadays it's all shark cards and multiplayer DLC.I've been playing RDR2 again lately and it really makes me wish we got a PC port of the first game. I'll settle for a full remake, which I do feel is coming, but I wish I didn't have to dig out my 360 to play it.
Also the creepy stuff in RDR2 is so cool. I weep every day for the fact that we never got a fucking Undead Nightmare sequel. I will never forgive R* for that missed opportunity
Love this game, man.One that popped into my head is Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist. It's a funny game made by the creator of Leisure Suit Larry and it's a shame they never made a sequel.

Ooh, I grew up with that game on NES. It's a very good strategy/variety game with a sense of humor. Probably too dated for anyone who didn't also grow up with it, but I liked it a lot.Not a cowboy game but North & South was so god damn fun in multiplayer.

GOD DAMN IT I GOT BEAT TO IT BY A QUICK DRAWING COWBOYWell not "technically" a western game since it takes place on an entirely different planet, I loved Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath.

You would think an IP that was based around the cinematic platformer genre producing an FPS with platforming elements that was published by motherfucking EA would be a disaster, but this game truly beaten all the odds. (No pun intended) Fun and creative "gunplay", cool story, beautiful CG and unsurprisingly amazing voice work by Lorne Lanning. It's a game you probably wouldn't see made today due to some of its subject matter. Definitely give this one a try if you haven't already.

I hate the story in RDR2 but really enjoy how they leaned into the RPG and simulation aspects with the gameplay. So glad to see other people experienced the absolute kino that was GUN, the thing that got me into westerns in the first place.
The other best western game was RDR1 (other best is Fallout: New Vegas), 2 was meh and it makes me lowkey mald when I see faggots consider it a masterpiece when the first game was exactly that.
RDR2 never had a moment like entering Mexico in 1 and hearing this absolute beautiful song:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=7IkvAb6THQYAll I remember from 2 is Dutch bitching about money, not being able to rob trains without some police desk jockey in Saint Denis hearing it with his six sense, going to some tropical island for like 2 hours and fighting a ship (seriously wtf was that?), and Arthur being an inferior protag to the Chad Marston.
I did enjoy those mechanics in some parts, but other times it was sorta annoying (some animations take way too long, long guns keep going back to your horses inventory when mounting them, etc.). While it annoyed me quite a few times when I was in the middle of some action, I do remember just coming home from work and vibing listening to music or a video while doing shit like hunting or fishing in the middle of nowhere in game, just enjoying the open world and not being bothered by Rockstar's autistic mechanics. Those times were good I admit.I hate the story in RDR2 but really enjoy how they leaned into the RPG and simulation aspects with the gameplay.
Automatically storing your long arms was probably one of the most annoying things I have ever seen happen in a video game. I don't mind the animations but did they really have to completely unequip them from your character?I did enjoy those mechanics in some parts, but other times it was sorta annoying (some animations take way too long, long guns keep going back to your horses inventory when mounting them, etc.).
