Starting a thread for games either set in or themed after the wild west. Gonna post a few of my favourites and see if other kiwis have good taste.

The good shit right here. Shame the series is fucking dead.

This game is underrated as fuck and I really wish it would get a sequel someday.

Great gameplay and setting held back by a really predictable story and some woke cringe. Still an amazing western and my go-to when I just want to get lost on saddleback.

I remember as a kid playing an on-rails western shooter that had a naked woman in the background.
It was rated E and the utter shock on my parent's faces upon seeing the buxom beauty in my vidya was hilarious.
I wish I could remember what the game was, there were an absolute shitload of Western games in the 90s.

Wonder how the ratings board missed that. Was it on PC?

My friend was playing Blood West yesterday. It appears to be a western style boomer shooter where you cleanse an area of monsters while looking for cursed gold artifacts to bury under some spirit totem. I think he said it's in early access on Steam or something. From what he streamed to us, it looked pretty alright.

My dudes, I am a big fan of Western settings in games, and an odd one I loved when I was growing up was Wild Arms 3 for the PS2. It was a JRPG in a Western setting, and I loved the shit out of it.

Wild Arms back in the day was a fun RPG Western if you wanted something different. I wish it had been fleshed out more as it always kind of felt like filler. The Oregon Trail I think might have been my first western game though.

What I wouldn't give for a cross between Oregon Trail and a wilderness survival game.

I really fucking love the original Red Dead Revolver. I don't really know why, but this was one of the first games I got on my original Xbox and I have absolutely played the shit out of it. This was way before Red Dead Redemption was even on the table, and I also had Gun around the same time and just lost interest in it over RDR. The game is a chaotic mess of gunfire and arcadey controls. The bosses are ridiculous; you fight cannibals, a giant fat man who can blow himself up without being injured, a teleporting stage magician, a literal army of clowns and circus freaks, a BDSM negress that attacks you with a bullwhip, and all of that is before you even get into the main plot.

The controls take some getting used to, but the game is just fucking hilarious. You need to grind a little to get the money to buy better weapons, but once you've beaten the campaign once you should have everything you need to go back to even the most frustrating levels and clean house.

The soundtrack is also spectacular. All of the music is taken from old vintage spaghetti westerns. Some of them are great hidden gems like Apocalypse Joe and His Name Was King, but some are from shitty 70s schlock like Deaf Smith & Johnny Ears, but I would bet anyone here actual money you'd have probably never heard any of the music if it weren't for this game. I'll put up a few chocie tracks to give you guys an idea.

Lucas from Django, Prepare A Coffin

Tumble Weed from Minnesota Clay

Per Salvarasi! from Los Amigos

from They Called Him Cemetary

The game had a PC port too, so just go pirate or something, its worth at least one playthrough.

Shut up.
Even Rockstar can't aknowledge directly Red Harlow.

Got some vintage stuff...

This wasn't one I played myself, but my brother (RIP) absolutely was an addict on this cabinet. A wild west beat em up AS THE BAD GUY?! Why haven't we done more of those!? Though looking at it now, it's audio is a real mess and I wish the ports would fix that. Oh well

Very early light gun'ner from the same people who did Chiller. God, that tinny music is forever in my head. Big lol's at the bullets that act like shurikens, bulls that turn into hamburgers when shot, and injuns that yell "PALEFACE!" when killed.
