Hopefully its better than the MTV Shannara adaptation.

I wait for adaptations of that, Sword of Truth and WoT for years... and generic dreck for teens is what I get.
Could be worse. Think of what it was like for those of that enjoyed the Earthsea stuff or the Dark is Rising and what we got.

How has nearly every post-LOTR fantasy adaptation been so bad at this?
Because a vast majority of them went "hey these are popular at the moment" and dived atop the bandwagon. They then put together a generic notion, skimmed the properties for ideas and some names then proceeded onwards as though it would all work fine.

Hell the Hobbit is a fine example of it. At best that should have been two movies (Tolkein glosses over action a lot, Smaug's attack and death is the stuff of seconds to read through in the book but on the screen I want a dragon attack like Godzilla stomping the shit out of things only BETTER) but instead they just stamped all the generic additions they could on it (forced romance subplot, menacing additional villain with a tie to a major character who ended up having as much personality as the Hun leader in Mulan etc.) and took the winning formula from Lord of The Rings of embracing the world and making movies that matched the feel of an epic, ignored that and instead shat out another generic bit of trash.

I remain simultaneously sad and relieved that Tamora Pierce's stuff have not been adapted since especially at the moment they are potentially delicious to the right crowd but also would be destroyed by being made using the current flavours.

I think Wheel Of Time is flat-out impossible to do justice to on-screen, as all those detailed descriptions would not translate into words, nor would most inner monologues, nor time-displaced sequences (like Matt's reminiscense about his glorified sexual abuse), and also you can not really dedicate an entire hour to showing people do something mostly mundane, so we would be left with enough visual content to do a trilogy of movies as best. And that would never ever feel right.

>Dude has 3 wives.
Wow, so queer.

Actually, I am assuming they keep that shit. I would honestly be fine if they dropped it. Jordan must have been a closeted Mormon or something.
Speaking of gay Mormons, turns out that's exactly what the showrunner of WoT (Rafe Judkins) is. He only tells us this something like three times in the 17 minutes of his interview. He also announced somewhere in there that one of the chief writers of the series (paraphrased) "doesn't like Fantasy, she doesn't read Fantasy, and that helped keep us all real." No timestamp, since he's the first interview. Praises the diversity of the "global" casting.

Still mystifies me how the serious fans of this series -- people who have read through the books multiple times and have YouTube channels dedicated to WoT -- can barely cover their collective erections at the train wreck this is clearly shaping up to be. There was a livestream that I guess is now privated I wanted to post here, if I find it I'll come back with a link. Daniel Greene was one of the panelists, Jesus Christ on rollerskates was it a cringefest.

Finally, revealing that this is the image was posted on Twitter by the official Wheel of Time Twitter yesterday...

Not Rand al'Thor, not the Emond's Field Five, Burger King Kid's Club Edition, not even Moiraine with Lan. Moiraine by herself, brave powerful woman who don't need no man. FWIW, this isn't how I pictured the Waygates, either, but that is probably an error on my part.

I'm guessing we'll get some good f/x (still not sure how they will show Channeling), some tolerable CGI Trollocs, Fades, Drakkar, etc., coupled with a mess of a story, a skinsuit version of the WoT plot.

Full disclosure: Just about done with Book 3/The Dragon Reborn on my re-read. Still very impressed with Jordan's worldbuilding, the action scenes are actually better than I remember, find the characters a mixed bag, and the nuts and bolts prose as silly as ever.

Ah, well. Glad I have this space to scream into the void, as it were. I'd probably get banned for posting these sentiments on Reddit.

I'm doing my sixth re-read. I am also dreading the abomination that this adaptation is likely to be.

Is... That's a waygate? I honestly wouldn't recognize it as such. That's not what they looked like. It looks like just generic fantasy ruins.

So there was a pretty huge leak of production photos and video

I can personally allow some form of artistic liberty, but this looks bad. Mat and Perrin(who looks taller than Rand) look like haggard drunk fratboys, cavedweller Egwene is shorter than renowned midget Moiraine, and the rest of the cast is just all over the place,

I don't like it, but I will love to see how they handle the woman-on-woman violence and discipline.

ETA:
Logain was subdued and escorted by two(2) Aes Sedai. How the mighty have fallen.

I agree with everything you pointed out. My only bit to add is: wasn’t Lan basically Conan the Barbarian in terms of physique? What the fuck is this?
Conan the Barbarian with extra scars, yes. I wonder if they'll bother with the cloak effects or do the whole "it was described like that through alliteration because people are dumb".

All the WoT subreddits are jizzing themselves over that cast photo. Its almost like they're a fandom that is embracing deliberate changes to WoT. Wish I'd taken screenshots of somebody upset that Faile hadn't been turned into a tranny in the show. The post didn't garner a ton of upvotes, but it had more than a few.

Wasn't Logain supposed to be a young man, basically the same age as Rand? I mean, the Pattern throwing out "false" dragons before Rand declared himself pretty much demanded that, I'd think, since you start channeling sometime during adolescence.

Still can't believe Brandon Sanderson is on board with all of this, but I guess he is. I doubt he'd ever criticize the show, but he's kept far from silent about it.

Word I heard is "They won't because it would take to long and be too hard" which is hilarious because since the Cloak effect is supposed to look fucked up and funky they could have done it with zero CGI.

You Greenscreen...and then just put a GREEN CLOAK ON HIM.

He was a big guy, that was all that was really distinctive. Of course, it seems they bumped up the ages of the "young" characters so they could get around the filming restrictions and awkwardness of some(lots) of the situations they would be involved in.

I can absolutely believe it. He has Q&As while signing books, a dollar slid under the door should get a thumbs up from him.

Hell, they could have been lazy and just used iridescent silk. Nobody would blame them, it's a step above "fuck it".

Also for the Record.

The Show would fall apart even without the Woke Bullshit, apparently they are doing book 1 and 2 in Ten Episodes. Enjoy that Pacing.

It's a long time since I read the books, but don't those two take place over the course of two years and have the most events take place, before he started to pad things out and write shit like Path of Daggers which takes place over a day and nothing happens until the last 20 pages? You'd think if they were going to compress stuff it'd be the later ones.

Apparently yes two years (which feels super wrong given that traveling doesn't get discovered till halfway through the series) and even Path of Daggers takes place over a week or so, since POD had Rand vs Seanchan and I recall that being at least a week before Rand saying "Fuck these Niggers, Callendor Time" like a Tard.
