It's time to change how our country fills the ranks of our military.

Since 1775, our nation has used a combination of volunteers and draftees to meet our national defense personnel needs, especially in times of crisis.

Today, the military needs only about 160,000 youth from an eligible population of 30 million to meet its recruitment needs. But after two decades of war -- both of which ended unsuccessfully -- and low unemployment, many experts believe the all-volunteer force has reached a breaking point. And American confidence in its military is at a low.

The fastest and most effective way to resolve this recruiting crisis is to change how we recruit.

Instead of an "either an all-volunteer force or a fully conscripted force" model, I propose a both-and solution.

We should have our military recruiters sign up new troops for 11 months out of the year, and then have the Selective Service draft the delta between the military's needs and the total number recruited.

This model would alleviate the incredible pressure on our recruiters, lower the cost of finding new troops, and significantly reduce the much decried civilian-military gap by subjecting all of America's youth -- rich and poor -- to the possibility of military service via the draft.

This increased public interest might also have the added effect of increasing public pressure to prevent open-ended wars led by unaccountable senior leaders like we experienced in our national debacles in Iraq and Afghanistan.

While the causes of our current recruiting crisis are many, the fastest and best solution lies within our already existing Selective Service System.
This would obviously represent a seismic change, given the more recent history of military drafts.

In 1973, the draft was abolished with the establishment of the all-volunteer force, driven largely by the American public's weariness with our debacle in Vietnam; systemic inequities in the draft (e.g. wealthier Americans being able to defer service); and the fact that the size of our population had become so large in relation to the needs of the military, universal drafting became obsolete.

While the all-volunteer force had the effect of lowering discipline problems and professionalizing the force, it also created a vast gap between American citizens and those who serve -- effectively creating a military warrior caste that now appears more like a multi-generational family business than an organization that represents the true makeup of our democratic republic.

The establishment of the all-volunteer force also drove the military to expend an incredible amount of resources in terms of manpower and dollars to build a recruiting machine to attract America's youth to service. Considering it costs about $15,000 to recruit each new member, the overall cost each year exceeds $2 billion.

And recruitment has risen and fallen with the national unemployment rate.

The causes of this crisis are many, and both politicians and our national leadership are largely to blame.

For nearly a decade now, feckless politicians, using the military as a club to batter their opponents, have exacerbated increasing negative public opinion despite the fact that our military has crushed international terrorism and prevented another large-scale attack on our homeland for 22 years and running.

Despite this success, in 2023, every service except the Marine Corps is poised to miss its recruiting goals. In 2022, the Army alone fell short by 15,000 recruits.
The needs of the nation must be met, and our national leadership would be wise to reinforce the idea that military service is an important responsibility of citizenship.

While conscription has always been a controversial issue throughout our history, a hybrid model would alleviate our current military manpower crisis, increase the connectivity between the American public and its military, and more responsibly use taxpayer dollars.

Holes in our military formations are, in fact, gaps in our national security.

Y'all are missing the forest for the trees-the founders had it right from the start; “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

A militia is not a standing army as we know it. As a result of the Thirty Years War the Framers understood what the temptations of a large standing army were, so this amendment was discussed, argued over and finally inserted into the US Constitution. Most people think that last part is the most relevant in today's world but nope, the entire Amendment is a carefully crafted mechanism for defense of the nation. It was the duty of all citizens to be armed, trained and ready to defend her when necessary (sort of like Switzerland today). The US Army was not conceived as a means to go off and fight wars for enrichment of the long nose tribe and their golems, but to protect and defend the nation. It was Wilson who set us on the path of elective wars; eg, foreign entanglements in Europe which the Founders repeatedly warned against in no uncertain terms.

You think we entered World Wars I and II for free? Think again and examine how a certain group and their handmaidens benefited and how everyone else lost/was diminished. Any elective war on the horizon is not for defense but for war booty. Who covets Russian resources, and has been promised Ukraine's farmland? Who decided to blow up a pipeline in a ploy to safeguard their money laundering operations (and failed)? Who has lost control of China after sending US manufacturing there in the 80s, and fears losing Taiwan, whose people are agreeable to re-unification? Well, its not the folks in so-called flyover states, I tell you what.

The US military is not for the defense of her citizens, it's literally the cudgel our moneyed class uses to extract wealth for itself. This is obfuscated from public view with passionate declarations of democracy and affirmations of freedom. Keep that in mind the next time you are asked to shed your blood in a foreign land you didn't even know existed until the week before.

Lmao you can't meet any of your recruitment targets and the country isn't at existential threat, good fucking luck instituting a draft without the collective citizenry telling the Pentagon to suck themselves off.

Die for Zelenskyyyie, goy!

Imagine the minecraft zoomie getting into a war vs the ruskie kid who had been squatting since he was 5.

Here it comes. I called it. Time to conscript Americans to fight for the WEF's favorite son, Zelinskiy.

How about we restore all the traditional American civil liberties before we start talking about accepting the "responsibility of citizenship"?
I have better idea service in the military only combat positions grants you voting rights . I know we have seen this somewhere. Also how about they actually fullfill their promises to veterans and provide living wage for soldiers?

They don't need a draft, billions of young American right-wingers will gladly sign up and pledge their lives to the federal government of the United States that they've been calling illegitimate for the past 4 years as soon as you get into a war with China.

This is what Congress unironically believes.

Here's how it will play out. It will be an outright military draft. All the Heebs, Niggers, troons, fatties and women mysteriously exempt. Hell, the former legit pulled strings to keep the Jewish community out of the draft.

There is also the uncomfortable reality that even if the draft was enstated, expect to see the guns these people who are dragged into fighting turn it against their COs, outright mutiny or worse, defect to the enemy. And this is because everyone who gets drafted understands their country hates them, wants them to die to keep itself alive. Maybe if the country was worth fighting for in the first place.

Girls? Hardly. They're either fat and/or divorce rape you. Culture? You have a decade of the establishment enabling leftoid insanity just because OWS hit a little too close to home. Children? A good chunk of young men now don't have children. There is also the fact that the establishment is out to turn them gay and/or troon them out. Land and property? Nope. Eat ze bugs, own nothing.

Won't be surprised if this starts a cascade of stupidity that only ends with the establishment getting gangbanged from all sides like any decaying regime does.

I have long thought the best solution is a couple years of mandatory military service at 18. We have an obesity crisis and a man child crisis; what better way to whip everyone into shape and teach them some responsibility while improving military preparedness?

The reason no one wants to join the military is because it's perceived as being the default option for idiot losers, but if everyone has to join the military, you get rid of that stigma.

Some kid wants to shoot up his old high school because he spends too much time on Discord? Well now he has to touch grass... on a 12 mile forced march.

Incel? Well you won't be after 2 years the most intense workouts you can imagine.

Discipline problems? Not if Drill Sergeant has anything to say about it.

Love anime girls? Stay on after your time is up and get sent to Japan or Korea, where the locals will call you an "American Pig" behind your back, but you don't care because you don't speak Gook.

Send all those rah-rahing for intervention in Ukraine first. Jennifer Rubin, Max Boot, Alexander Vindman, Lindsey Graham, et al.

Fight your own damn wars, chickenhawks.

"Stop telling the awful truth about us!"

It's not politicians. It's the veterans telling them not to enlist. They know firsthand the bullshit the military puts you through.

If you wanna get people enlisting, then get back to the military's main role of killing people and breaking shit. Enough of this exporting Globohomo/ glorified HR Department fucking around.

This is going to end with the flood gates being opened to 3rd worlders.

"Americans are too lazy to do the job", say the people demonizing the demographic that are usually to be selfless.

Modern pozzed military amplifies incel behavior. God bless your soul if one is stationed with you in Japan or Korea, you will never know comfort because they tried raping a local schoolgirl, "the age of consent is 13 though:smug: ".

there are two types of military people: people who hate trannies because trannies are disgusting and people who say "it's their constitutionally protected right as americans to be trans and shiw their penises to kids at drag queen story hours."

the latter are careerists and ive seen friends turn into them solely for the promotion. Hard pass on the military until the American social fabric changes.
