To be fair, his main channel can still get viewers, it's just that he's branched into a new channel that is just typical let's plays instead of what he is infamous for. With that said, his opinions on the series and CA aren't really taboo anymore and a lot of the spergery simmered down across the board or was restricted to private Discords, so he wouldn't be able to get the same numbers he used to even if he tried.

As long as I'm not being a turbobumping faggot, one thing I really, really don't understand is that people that support volound are going on about how Total War got them interested in history and made them learn stuff, and how because CA is doing warhammer, that opportunity is wasted.
Like, fine, good for you, you found a hobby besides Video Games and are now a history nerd.
However, I don't really think this was a significant factor to consider even back in the early ages of gaming, and even less so now, since most people that are playing a historical war game are already going to be interested in history. Sure, in the past, there were less options, so people were naturally funneled into the Total war series, but in 2023, the games market is so vast, I've seen people say they've literally only played FPS games since they first started playing games. People who are playing historical war sims are going to already be interested in history, that might not have been true in the past, but now it's the rule, with some exception and edge cases, and even then, those not interested just want to make armies kill each other.

There's something of a false dichotonomy in the TW fanbase between "fantasy fans" and "history fans". This "fantasy and historical" side of the argument is pure console wars tier slapfighting since nobody has had an issue with fantastical settings utilized by the game's engines in the past. One of the most popular mods out there is a Lord of the Rings mod. And the vanilla series has never been historically accurate either. What it really comes down to is mechanics, passion, and the ability of the developer to engage and communicate with the fanbase effectively. The first two aren't worth elaborating on in this thread, but the last one is crucial because CA's PR is notoriously awful. Which is more or less what inadvertently gave Volound an audience in the first place.

To be fair, there are still very few games like TW. Some of the closest would be IP's like Nobunaga's Ambition, but those fall short in one aspect in favor of another. TW succeeded at keeping people engaged for both the turn based strategic overland map and the tactical real time combat. Plus it was able to do so while not detracting too much from the sense of scale. Plus, mods only really heighten the potential of the older games at least, which keep people invested in them even today.
 
I did some snooping around Volound's Steam reviews and the results aren't shocking.

He loves Dishonored but also dislikes Civilization for fairly petty reasons

What a delightful little thread I've stumbled upon this fine saturday morning! I'm happy that I'm actually arriving early at a spergs embarrasing journey into becoming a lolcow before the thread balloons into 1500 pages.

I've been following this guy for a few months and from what I've gather everyone seems to go through the same realization: He's a smug hypersensitive faggot who can't take the smallest amount of criticism on his mantra that if you find anything post Shogun 2 even mildly enjoying you're a right wing 4chan trump supporter oppressor who loves Creative Assembly and CAPEETALESEEM.

I saw Josh commenting on the Hyenas thread but I don't want to get my hopes up too much that he's going to bring up this autist on the accounts of just how ultimetaly unimportant he is to the whole thing. However if you see his video on the subject you would think that he personally made the phone call to Sega and have them cancel the game.

If you think about it he has everything to become a lolcow.

-Unwarranted self importance/smugness.
-Seethes at even the smallest hint of criticism or pushback on his feverishly held autistic views on Total War games.
-Terminally online, so far one of the funniest moments of this thread its him doing the classic lolcow move of, joining his fucking thread of all things and furiously owning the stalker childs of the kiwifarms with FACTS AND LOGIC, by typing walls of texts that nobody read at fucking 3 am because he doesn't have a job. With volound it's always the same shit, you watch one of his videos and you have watched them all. He's a self important retard who thinks he's way smarter than he really is. I don't remember which video it was, but he's always complaining about spreadsheets and stats in modern total war, as if the older games were programmed with magic. He's also extremely petty. It is not enough that you agree with him, you have to agree with him for the right reasons and give him credit for being a genius on top of it. He's also a filthy communist, but that's the least of his problems, it's just the cherry on top.

Found out he existed with the Heynas shitshow since seems like the most vocal about it. No surprise he's milking this shit into little stalagmites, it's his "I told you so" moment and probably the only one he'll get since it's already clear to me that he's an abrasive cunt after only a few videos. Legend of Total War is also a smug fuck but not nearly to this level.

And then you have people like Zerkovich quietly in the plantation not wanting to stir a thing. Still looking forward to more CA leaks and spergouts though, be it him or one of the other british faggots spilling the beans.

-The ex-EA guy and other were fired, probably partly as a result of his expose
-CA went on a banning spree on Total War games' steam forums
-Made some corporate apology
-He's had a video removed blocked in the UK for "Defamation" complaints from randos (probably cowish CA employees)
-Volund continued to make further exposes with info from the anon ex-CA guys

That's how much I've understood and my life is too short to go through all of his longer-than-they-have-to-be videos to understand more. Like seriously man, people with lives outside of this aren't going to give a shit if you package your hard-found info like you do now.
 
His shogun 2 co op series with Cosmic is a chill timethough I believe the playlist is a decade old at this stage.

I believe the arguments on total war definitely have been restated again and again and arent as enjoyable to listen to as a previous poster stated heard one heard em all about the garbage fire TW:Warhammer is.

Hattori series pretty neat though. Thought a guy who has this much autistic knowledge about the gane would also be severely autistic.

Volound is a perfect example of a retarded contrarian sperg. For example, he used to shit all over Attila TW until some Russian makes a video how Atiila is actually good, since then he has adopted the view of his fellow contrarian. He and other contrarians like Dishonorable_Daimyo all shill each other, while just copying each others views 1:1 in their way to long videos. Most of the things he criticises are very obvious and can be spotted by anyone who isn't a blind consumer soyjacking over the latests smashing-soldier-figures-together-game. A good part of his videos are often off-topic rants from a redditor about other redditors and their reddit posts.

Fortunately for him CA is a even more retarded company which constantly bites the hands who feed it. This makes his nu-TW rants look way better then they actually are.
