It saddened me to learn how much of a sperg he is. For all his faults, I would say he is spot on about Creative Assembly being a Money Hungry Cashcow much like Games Workshop.
 
Volound had his panties in a bunch over not getting an early-access review copy of Manor Lords. This is a game he has put 10-20 hours into already (demos etc.,) and has spoken very highly of, and he's now apparently refusing to even play it. He didn't reach out to them until they had sent out their review keys - he expected to be given one.

This comes at a time when the developer / publisher are presumably very busy in the leadup to release. He mentioned in the replies that he has emailed the publisher 3 times. I can't help but laugh imagining the contents of those emails.

Most of the comments point out his entitlement.

Even if it was malice, think about it from their perspective. He's a Youtuber that posts videos infrequently and who's recent videos over the last few years are almost all hit pieces.

I agree with most of Volound's TW takes, but if I were making a game just one quick look at his behavior would be enough for me not to want his involvement. That and he's a communist.

I don't hate him either and think his CA takedowns are good but I'm 99% sure he sent a 1000-word mail asking for keys and the guys doing PR either marked it to go through later and it got buried or flagged it as spam because they thought it was an AI-generated bot-mail trying to fish keys for reselling sites like G2A. Add to that he probably asked for more than one key because he really likes enforcing his critiques by having a random dudebro agree with him on video.

Also don't forget that most of his audience is only subbed to him so they can see CA implode, which is OK, but its probably not an audience that looks to him for game recommendations. And his Homeworld 3 video hasn't broken 30K views.
LegendofTotalWar managed to walk the tightrope of being a CA detractor without letting it consume his channel and content, as did Pixellated Appolo (though with less success). Other TW YTers just stay out of the drama. Volound on the other hand seems like he became a cross between Thunderfoot and Jim Sterling.

Honestly surprised the review wasn't removed, (I've seen better reviews for bigger games get nuked*) but then I guess whoever was in charge realized the dude would go apeshit and make a 2 hour video about how CA is trying to silence him while patently ignoring the fact that he basically admitted he played for a grand total of 1 singular battle solely so he could leave that review on the storepage and didn't even attempt to touch anything else.

*though that might be down to algorithm shit
 
A bit late to this, but Volound has been milking the recent Rome II leak drama for all it's been worth. There's nothing particularly insightful he says there that can't just be gained from reading the sourced Julian McKinley's medium post, which is essentially him recounting how CA's marketing department took over the company and that being a major reason for why the series dipped significantly after Shogun 2. A particularly damning excerpt:

It was for his ability to vocalize the collective frustration of the Grogs that Volound gained an audience to begin with, and he lost a fair bit of it because he was too much of a vindictive communard to not pick unnecessary and counterproductive slap-fights with people who would otherwise agree with him on CA needing to die. It's at least funny how he's reduced to being a Celtic, progressive ArchWarhammer despite hating the Norwegian for not sharing his politics.

Reminds me of when he started making shorts after being bullied by 4chan for the length of his videos and they completely dwarfed the rest of his content in popularity. Not a single thing he says is worth listening to for more than 3 minutes, let alone 3 hours

The only video of his that's over an hour and worth watching the whole of is the Immolation of Player Freedom one. Most of the videos after that were dunking on soyhammer/rome 2 fans by making videos too long for their attention spans and retreading the same ground covered in Immolation. His only real use nowadays seems to be as a conduit for leaks from CA.

IIRC there was about half a year between his Immolation video and his video on CA selling out to GW, during which he kept sperging about geedubs being secret Trump supporters and their fanbase being riddled with nazis, and that ArchWarhammer (longtime skeptic who actually got GW to temporarily rollback some of their progressive propagandizing via a letter writing campaign years before Volo started alogging CA) was a fascist in cahoots with them.

Arch was straight up blacklisted by both companies and a former community streamer for CA called Arch a dickhead on his last stream, there no love for Arch at CA. (Curiously I believe it was because he made a few off cuff jokes early on in his career and its just gotten worse since then) Arch has simply successfully transitioned into the culture war grift that you see now as opposed to Volound who seethes and spergs about a single hyper fixation, its all his autism addled mind can really hope to conjure

This guy is complete loser, I just critiqued him over him going off about "chuds" on reddit and he goes off about how I don't matter and all this extra bullshit. I'm not gonna post the screenshots but if you just type in "volound reddit" you'll see his video where it has chuds in the title and my comment is like 2 week old with what he said. Also what he said about the subreddit was actually true or mostly so, That ghost division guy was an asshole but he was trying to play himself off as a victim, not saying volound dindu nuffin but not even he deserved that.
