I bought this like 18mo ago but I had some.issue getting it to launch, can't remember what. I'll have to try again.

Any reccomended tech mods (more in the style of build-craft, industrial-craft, thermal series etc - more 1.7.10 style than create style, basically)
The electricity mod is a great place to start. https://mods.vintagestory.at/electricity
Not much in terms of a in terms of a full tekkit suite quite yet, but probably coming.
Scratch that, looks like someone made buildcraft for VS lmao https://mods.vintagestory.at/qptech

Well, since I'm here - some must-have QoL mods? Since it's EA, I know some things will be retarded in design. Some content mods for later would also be nice, once I play enough of vanilla.

Depends on what you think is retarded by design. If you found moving items from container to container tedious you can use Carry On to pick up the container full of items and move it somewhere else for convenience. If you wished you feel like some parts of the game are missing or could be fleshed out but don't want to go into super big content mods yet you can give Wild Farming a shot, adds a lot more to farming such as seed extraction, mushroom farming, and other things you can read for yourself. And I personally really like Primitive Survival since I'm a fan of TerraFirmaCraft but this can be seen a big vanilla+ mod that adds some things that could definitely be in the game like fishing (and multiple ways to fish as well), traps, rafts, new food types, and other shit you can read on the mod page. Kanahaku`s (Not Only) Spear Expansion for more spears and even other weapons (that you can just forgo if you don't care about them), Bullseye if you want an overhaul to archery too, I could go on. For big content mods after you're done with vanlla you can check out mods like Vs Village for...obviously villages with villagers. Feverstone Wilds if you want some fantasy with your eldritch horror and lots of it, Better ruins if you found vanilla's ruins boring, alchemy, medieval building, I could go on but only you can really decide what you want so give the mod page a go.

Here are some I enjoy:

Alloy Calculator
Technically out-of-date but it still works just fine because it hardly interacts with the game beyond adding to the UI (which has not changed hardly at all for years now).
It helps you calculate the nuggets you need for a given metal alloy and end unit count using degrees of freedom. More helpful than you'd expect (Press U to open)

A Wearable Light
Hate being cast into complete darkness when using a shield and fighting in a dark cave? Try this mod.
Farmland Drops Soil
Makes it so that soil is not single-use just because you tilled it.

Player Corpse
No need to worry about your items de-spawning when you die.

Worldgen Fix Remix + Rivers + Joy of Sailing
This specific combination gives a complete world generation overhaul, I find it more pleasing to look at, but the first mod can be left out based on personal taste.
Just know that if you turn this mod on/off in a save any chunks generated will not match chunks next to them generated in the other state.
Rivers + Joy of Sailing adds wonderful rivers to the world that are very pleasingly generated, and sailboats to sail up and down them.
These three mods were very closely developed along-side one another.

Visible Ore
Slightly changes the colors of some ores. Otherwise certain ores, such as Zine in Andesite, are basically impossible to find unless you hover your mouse over it.

HTH \o

The qol mods would ruin the game imo. The only good shit is being able to move item containers, which should be in base game imo.

I hate you "people" so much. I stayed up all night playing after I read this. I'm in my late 20's and I haven't stayed up all night playing vidya since I was in my early 20's

Call me a faggot but this hit me hard, I miss when I was happy to play games.

Recognized the name in the title of the thread and remembered seeing people talk about this game fondly on /v/ a few years ago, which is a pretty rare occurance
After reading through this thread I decided to grab a 4 pack and I'm hoping to give it a shot this weekend with some friends

I hope it scratches that itch that Minecraft hasn't been able to in nearly a decade

I have found something terrible, this is a real horror game. Why is there a giant hole poked into the land?!
anomoly.jpg map.jpg
The fact the mpa view shows the hole as not being pure white, but having some strange grain to it makes a bit spookier since it seems as if there is something down there.

this could be the spooky endgame dungeon attempting to generate and failing, previously we had it generate in the middle of an ocean so all the dirt was collapsing gravel.

I already have the spooky endgame dungeon on my map, that's probably not it. Or does it generate multiple times? if so that'd be a good idea!

I went and actually cleared the story! A great experience I have some comments and a finding.
I had to look on the wiki to find out you have to ask a treasure hunter trader about the place. Guess those guys really are useful these days.
I love the story of the the resonance archive literally being that, where the bells go out into the world recording everything, such that every sound ever made resonates forever inside the chamber.
I wanted to see it in its full glory but the Higher Power™ prevents me from setting up good lighting, So I effectively boundary broke and spawned it in a superflat world.
Pretty cool looking! The entity name is echochamber.

I'm happy to see there's a thread for this game, I've been a little bit addicted to it in the past. I love that it's actually taught me some things about the real world that I didn't know, like the existence of fire clay or how wrought iron is made.

The only thing I wish is that we could come up with a gameplay system for intuitively teaching the player, instead of needing to constantly check an in-game handbook or look at the wiki to figure things out. Maybe the traders could have a bunch of dialogue, or maybe you could find scraps of parchment or clay tablets with recipes and whatnot in the ruins. The first time I played this game I quit and almost got filtered permanently because I could not guess the crafting recipes and I resented staring at the handbook while wolves were biting my naked ass
